3. Introduction:
• The common misconception that many of us have is that we
know who we are such as our strengths, weaknesses, likes, and
or dislikes the moment we are born out.
• However, in life, nothing comes to us automatically.
• Everything requires learning.
• You have to learn about yourself to learn who you are as a
person.
• That process of learning can be called as “personal
development”.
• To live a fulfilled life or attain the level of achievement you
desire in life, it is essential that you develop yourself to the
fullest potential, whether in work, relationships, family, sports,
whatever.

facilitate employability, and enhance quality of life and
the realization of dreams and aspirations.
o Personal development may take place over the course of
an individual’s entire lifespan and is not limited to one
stage of a person’s life.
5. o It is the journey of an individual towards self- discovery
and self-acceptance.
Self - discovery –
The act or process of gaining knowledge or understanding of
your abilities, character and Feelings.
Self - acceptance –
An individual’s acceptance of all of their attributes, positive or

11. Personal Development - Essential Characteristics
Pupils have the ability and the willingness to do the following:
Try new things -
Success doesn’t just happen. Be optimistic. We all need to go out and find something in which we can experience
success. Doing something and continuing to work and developing it brings confidence.
Work hard -
If we want to get really good at something there are no shortcuts. Accomplishment is about practice and hard work.
Pupils need to understand the benefits of working hard.
Concentrate –
If we want to achieve at something we need to concentrate on it and not be distracted. Pupils need to be taught to
concentrate.
Push themselves –
When pupils don’t feel like doing things, when they feel shy, when they are scared of failure, peer pressure it can be
difficult to push oneself but it is essential for success.
12. Imagine –
Children have a fantastic imagination which mostly declines with age. George Land in a 1968 study concluded
that this non creative behavior is learned. Decline of imagination is an enemy of success. We need to build and
encourage imagination.
Improve –
Successful people are always trying to make things better. There is always room for improvement. This means
lots of tweaking and refinement.
Understand and help others –
Successful people use what they know to try and be useful to others. It’s not ‘what’s in it for me?’ it is ‘what can I
give?’.
Not give up –
Bad luck, setbacks, failure, criticism, rejection, hits us all. Successful people find a way around these problems.
We need to teach them how to bounce back.
13. Personal Development: Embracing your Uniqueness
We are all unique in our own way.
Every individual in this world has his/her own identity. In fact, each one of us has been designed
and developed differently from the other one. This means no two individuals can have matching
personality or persona.
Since every person is unique, it only makes sense that personal development will look different for
everyone.
Embrace your uniqueness to develop yourself further, discover more and explore your true self.
Nothing can stop you, go for it, the sky is the limit! Don’t be afraid of being unique, because that’s
the only way you will find your best self!
You are indeed one of a kind!
