Getting big without getting fat, in perlDean Hamstead
Thoughts on keeping your perl code lean as your code base gets bigger. Ideas on API structure for plugins and modules which can help. Some recommended option settings and module suggestions for handling configuration. A passing reference to logging.
A variety of pop culture, tech and start up culture references to keep things interesting.
All feedback welcome

I have 77 modules on the CPAN and I haven't
yet given a talk about most of them. I'll pick ten
useful but less-known modules of mine and give two
minute introductions to each
It's quite hard to write cross-platform CPAN modules, especially when you use XS to interface with C libraries. Luckily, CPAN Testers tests your modules on many platforms for you. Come see how CPAN Testers helped me to create a fully portable module.
Presented at YAPC::Europe 2011.
Writing code as an individual and writing code as part of the team are two very different things. Learn the tips and tricks for writing JavaScript code as part of the team so that your code will continue to work for years to come.

My Beginners Perl tutorial, much abbreviated and as presented at the London Perl Workshop on Dec 1st 2007.
Also includes the section on Regular Expressions that we didn't have time for on the day.
Find out about hardware, software, protocols, digital video broadcasting, video formats, computer architectures, Perl modules and more as the speaker undertakes the project of a lifetime in his living room: fewer cables.
Arpad Ray's PHPNW08 slides:
Looking at websites from the perspective of potential attackers is a useful technique not only for security professionals.
This talk demonstrates how to use simple PHP scripts to exploit many common security holes in PHP applications, hopefully giving developers a deeper understanding of what it is they are protecting against.
* Getting around common precautions against SQL injection
* Free spam with SMTP injection
* Making a malicious website to exploit PHP sessions
* The holes every attacker hopes for
* Making use of a newly exploited website
Dealing with Legacy Perl Code - Peter ScottO'Reilly Media
Peter Scott, author of the O'Reilly School of Technology's Perl Programming Certificate series, talks about how to deal with "legacy" Perl code - written by someone else, or maybe even yourself when you were younger and less wise.

Architecture | Busy Java Developers Guide to NoSQL | Ted NewardJAX London
2011-11-02 | 03:45 PM - 04:35 PM |
The NoSQL movement has stormed onto the development scene, and it’s left a few developers scratching their heads, trying to figure out when to use a NoSQL database instead of a regular database, much less which NoSQL database to use. In this session, we’ll examine the NoSQL ecosystem, look at the major players, how the compare and contrast, and what sort of architectural implications they have for software systems in general.
JBUG 11 - Django-The Web Framework For Perfectionists With DeadlinesTikal Knowledge
Django is a Python Web Framework gaining popularity among developers all over the world, due to its power & simplicity. In this session we will describe what makes the framework so attractive, and why you should consider it for your next Web application.
Presentation & Featured Video in Full Version.
A (not entirely serious) talk that I gave at the London Perl Mongers technical meeting in March 2018.
It talks about how and why I build a web site listing the line of succession to the British throne back through history.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
