Periodization Training

Periodization
Season Planning Process
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE
ABOUT PERIODIZATION?
WHY IS IT USED? BEST PRACTICES HOW CAN IT BE APPLIED
TO COMPETITIVE GOLFERS?
“You can game plan all you want, let’s see
what happens when I punch you in the
face.” Mike Tyson
Plans are worthless, but planning is everythihg.
Eisenhower
“There is time enough, but none to
spare.” Josh Fonger
Principles of Periodization-
Main idea- how do you train an athlete to lower their
competitive scoring average and peak at the right
times?
Workloads are varied in a logical, phasic pattern in order to ensure the development
of specific physiological and performance outcomes at predetermined time points.
Training tasks contained within the microcycle (weekly), mesocycle (quarterly), and
annual training plan.
Principles of Periodization-
When deciding the amount of work and type of work to prescribe athletes, it is
vital to understand the inverse relationship between intensity and volume.
Intensity versus Volume
