2. Perception
 Perception is a process by which an individual selects,
organizes and interprets stimuli into a meaningful and
coherent picture of the environment.
 Perception differs from one person to another, depending on
the needs, values and expectations.
 People respond to situations on the basis of their perception
about the reality than reality itself.

4. 1.Selection
 Selection, the first stage of perception, is the process through
which we attend to some stimuli in our environment and not
others.

5. 2.Organization
 Organization is the stage in the perception process in which
we mentally arrange stimuli into meaningful and
comprehensible patterns.

6. 3.Interpretation
 Interpretation, the final stage of perception, is the subjective
process through which we represent and understand stimuli.

8. 1.Perciever
 When a person looks at a target and attempts to interpret
what he sees, his interpretation is greatly influenced by his
personal characteristics.
EG: Needs and motives, Self concept, Beliefs, etc;

9. 2.Target
 Characteristics of the person who is being observed can affect
what is perceived.
EG: Appearances, age, gender, manner of communication, etc;

10. 3.Situation
 The surrounding environment and the elements present in it
influence our perception while perceiving a particular
situation or event, its physical, social and organisational
setting can also influence the perception.

11. Social perception
 It is directly concerned with how one individual perceives
other individuals; how we get to know others.

12. Attribution
 Attribution refers to how people explain the cause of
another’s or their own behavior.
 External attribution
 Internal attribution

13. Stereotyping
 Tendency of generalizing the characteristics of all members of
group.

14. Halo effect
 Drawing a general impression about an individual on the basis
of a single characteristics.

15. Conclusion
 Perception refers to the set of processes we use to make
sense of all the stimuli you encounter every second. Our
perceptions are based on how we interpret all these different
sensations, which are sensory impressions we get from the
stimuli in the world around us. Perception enables us to
navigate the world and to make decisions about everything.
