Penguins have a variety of diets depending on where they live. Most smaller penguins in Antarctica eat krill, while others eat squid, cuttlefish and small fish. The total food intake of a large penguin colony can exceed several tons per day. There is some debate around penguin species classifications, with estimates ranging from 17 to 20 living species. While often associated with Antarctica, penguins actually live in various climates in the southern hemisphere.
