Black macaques live in groups in the rainforests and mountains of Indonesia. They eat a variety of foods including fruit, grains, leaves, insects and small animals. Black macaque families are social, with both males and females defending the group's territory and caring for one another by grooming and other social behaviors. They forage for food in the mornings and demonstrate both aggression and cooperation within their social structures.
