John Dewey promotes his belief that these kinds of active learning experiences are crucial for the
mental growth of a child. Dewey suggests experiences such as taking children outside to explore
nature and geography, and starting school gardens so children can learn about agriculture.
Nonetheless, One of John Dewey's main objections to the traditional model of education involves its
focus on curriculum over the individual student. John Dewey believed that the student should

In order to describe the interactional architecture, the institutional core goal needs to be identified at
first, which is what the teacher aims to teach to the learners in the second language classroom. This

According to Armstrong (2009) and Fierros (2004), Gardner (1993) described the different learning
styles as "multiple intelligences" and conveyed that a human being can possess more than one
intelligence. In our classes, there are different students with different learning styles. We have
auditory, visual and kinaesthetic learners among others. The former learn best through hearing of
information and often need to read the written words aloud to enable them remember the key points
in the instruction given. This method is the best way for them to study. For visual learners, they

of teaching. Whether it be at school, home, or by a parent education can be pushed upon you in
different forms. These manners of education can treat people as objects; use forms of paternalism
due to authority over someone, and restrict people from having freedom and responsibilities. One of

My Own Developing Pedagogy Gravitates Towards The Steiner...
Introduction Being that the nation should not be valued upon it's wealth but upon it's education and
character, my own developing pedagogy gravitates towards the Steiner model founded in
understanding of the children's developmental needs, rather than a standardised content based
syllabus as is the State Government model. I see Steiner as a balance between student centred
approach (progressive) and what is traditional (essential). Although I imagine everyone is trying to
obtain the same goal, the way in which this is being achieved is vastly different. I choose to focus on
the Steiner model as it stresses teaching content at the appropriate time and in a way that is
compatible with the children's natural style of learning at that age. The following principles support
the theory and explains the motivations. By contrast I will briefly look at a historical example
juxtaposed with modern global standards (OECD). Principles You could state that Steiner loosely
supports the core points of a progressive philosophy. That all students play a role in forming the
content of the curriculum meaning the teacher works cooperatively with the students to form lessons

Teaching And Teaching : Effective Pedagogy
In order to discuss what I have learnt so far about effective pedagogy in science, the term pedagogy
needs to be defined and the associated processes understood.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines pedagogy as "The method and practice of teaching,
especially as an academic subject or theoretical concept" (Oxford dictionary of English, 2010). I
interpret this to mean that effective pedagogy is the teaching of an academic subject carried out in a
way that is effective for the individual learner to understand and grasp the knowledge being taught.
A review from New Zealand found it hard to determine what is effective pedagogy generally. It
suggested that effective pedagogy is influenced by the particular curriculum, assessments, social and
learning outcome and objectives (Jones & Baker, 2012). This suggests the teacher plays the major
role in fashioning effective pedagogy given a certain environment and it is their duty to strive to
maintain this (Carr et al., 2000).
There are three main approaches to the processes of teaching; behaviourism, constructivism and
social constructivism (Pollard et al., 2014). Behaviourism is a model by which the teacher is
dominant and leads teaching by instructing the student while the student is passive in input (Pollard
et al., 2014). This contrasts with constructivism and social constructivism, in which the student is
actively engaged and learning is able to happen independent of teaching. Constructivism is a model

Life Long Learning, Pedagogy and Andragogy
"What kind of education is needed for what kind of society tomorrow?"
A group of 15 persons from all over the world called the "International Commission on Education
for the 21st Century", chaired by Jacques Delors, attempted to answer precisely this question. The
group, also known as the Delors Commission, after numerous consultations and research, published
the book "Learning:The Treasure Within". The concept of life long learning was central to Delor's
report –
The concept of learning throughout life is the key that gives access to the 21st century. It goes
beyond the traditional distinction between initial and continuing education. It links up with another
concept often put forward, that of the learning society, in which everything affords an opportunity of

Active – the learning process should be active, and replicate as closely as possible the environment
within which the skill or knowledge will be applied
Learner–centered – Centered on the needs and skills of the learner.
For instance, in andragogical style of teaching, when a material is delivered, the teacher may give a
brief introduction on the subject and then ask for input from the adult learners, based on their
experience. The tasks given maybe more self directed, like researching on a topic or asking the
students to present on a topic themselves, giving them names of books for futher reading, more role
playing and asking students to draw inferences themselves etc. Also, often times, the teacher may
ask the students to decide what they would like to learn and set their own learning goals.

John Dewey promotes his belief that these kinds of active learning experiences are crucial for the mental growth of a child. Dewey suggests experiences such as taking children outside to explore nature and geography, and starting school gardens so children can learn about agriculture. John Dewey believed that the student should participate in their own learning, and that the student' own motivation was a large factor in the amount the student would learn in school. Literacy Pedagogy Essay Effective teaching of literacy is developed through a deep understanding of the ways in which children learn, informing educators on the most beneficial pedagogical methods to utilise (Tompkins et al, 2012). Literacy pedagogy within the Australian context has changed drastically over time and has resulted in a myriad of pedagogical choices that influence contemporary literacy education (Kalantzis & Cope, 2012).
