After Daniel arap Moi became president, he emphasized music education to spread his ideologies. In contrast, drama has never received official recognition and remains an extracurricular activity. However, the national drama festival has expanded and provides opportunities for students to explore social issues through performance. Thus, though no clear arts policy exists, the performing arts still contribute to social change in Kenya.
