Brief history of football
The first form of football began in 1863 in England. England Football Association was the first
governing body which was form from a disagreement between the rugby football and association
football. The earliest form of football was an exercise from a military during 2nd & 3rd centuries
in China. This exercise was called Tsu’ Chu and it consisted of kicking a leather ball filled with
feathers with a 30-40cm in width, into a small net fixed onto long bamboo canes. The players
were not allowed to aim at target unimpeded. The use of feet, chest, back and shoulders while
trying to withstand the attacks of the opponents. The use of hands was not permitted.
Another form of the game, originated in the Far East was called the Japanese Kemari. It began
about 500-600 years later and today it is still played. It consists of standing in a circle, the ball is
pass around all players in a relatively small space. The main objective is not making the ball
touch the ground. But Tsu’ Chu is more competitive than the because in Tsu’ Chu the players
have to struggle for possession while the Japanese Kemari no struggling for possession is
required. Today, football is played using a smaller ball by two teams on a rectangular field
marked with boundary lines and a center line. The objective was to get the ball over the
opposition’s boundary lines and as players passed it between themselves, trickery was the order
of the day.
