1. PDHPE Rationale
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education is an important and unique key
learning area within the NSW primary curriculum. It provides students the necessary
understanding, knowledg, skills,positive attitudes and values to maintain a well-balanced and
healthy lifestyle; incorporating mental, social, physical and spirtitual well-being.
PDHPE Skills
PDHPE focuses on the development and implementation of five main skills:
1. Communication
2. Decision-making
3. Interacting
4. Moving
5. Problem-solving
PDHPE – concentrates on 8 Key Strands that students learn:
1. Interpersonal relationships – understanding nature of relationships.
2. Growth & Development – physical,cognitive, social and emotional changes.
3. Games & Sport – competency& confidence in fundemental movemnet skills.
4. Gymnastics – Composition and movement.
5. Dance – developing awarness & expression through movment.
6. Active Lifestyle – Effects of physical activities.
7. Personal Health Choices – Lifestyle decisions ,Nutrition
8. Safe Living - Safe environments and practices.
2. PDHPE – Why it is important?
Promotes acadmic learning and an understanding and valuing of self and others.
Develops communication, teamwork, resilience, decsion-making, problem-solving &
cooperation skills.
Promotes and develops an awarness of informed choices - healthy and active lifestyle
Provides students with tools to express themselves about sensitive issues in a safe
environment.
Suppotrs the growth of the student as a whole person and enables them to be
productive citizens.
