PDHPE focuses on educating
students to make informed decisions
related to health and physical
activity to build and maintain a
healthy lifestyle. PDHPE improves
understanding, knowledge and
practical skills that lead to better
health.
PDHPE encourages students to
understand and value themselves
and others, promotes physical activity
to maintain a healthy lifestyle, leads
to informed decision making and
therefore helps the development and
maintenance of healthy relationships.
3. IMPORTANCE OF PDHPE
PDHPE is essential in the development of 5 essential skills.
These are:
COMMUNICATING – students will be able to express
needs, wants, feeling, ideas and opinions, as well as
develop essential listening skills.
DECISION MAKING – through knowledge gained in
PDHPE students will be able to make informed decisions
in relation to healthy lifestyle and personal choices.
INTERACTING – allows students to develop skills to relate
positively to one another.
MOVING – students gain the ability to move to
effectively in response to stimuli, participate in games
and sports and master fundamental skills.
PROBLEM SOLVING – students develop essential
problem solving skills needed to gather information,
generate questions and resolve problems.
4. BENEFITS TO STUDENT
Students will gain skills and development in the 8 strands of PDHPE and
these will provide foundation for an understanding of a healthy lifestyle.
They will also create sportsmanship between students and encourage team

5. MAINTAINING HEALTH AT HOME
Students can maintain healthy lifestyles learnt in PDHPE at home.
Following these tips will help to maintain a healthy lifestyle and can be
fun for the whole family!
Exercise for at least 30 minutes a
day. This can be as easy as walking
your dog!
Play a team sport! You will make lots
of new friends whilst being active.
Eat a balanced diet. Making sure
foods from all food groups are eaten
and in moderation!
Drink lots of water!
Get plenty of rest to keep your body
and mind happy and healthy!
Spend lots of time with family and
friends and play games and sports
together!
