PDHPE teaches students important knowledge, skills, and attitudes to lead healthy lives through topics like sexuality, relationships, nutrition, fitness and health. It addresses both physical and mental health issues and allows students to discuss sensitive topics. The skills developed in PDHPE, such as communication, decision making, and problem solving, can be used across academic and social settings. PDHPE also aims to tackle current health issues impacting youth like inactivity, diabetes, and obesity.
