Connecticut State Track Committee Case Analysis
The Connecticut State Track Committee,
Upon your request to design a 200 meter indoor track that fulfills the constraints of straightaways
measuring 34 to 44 meters and lanes measuring 1.07 to 1.22 meters wide, I have designed a track
that should fulfill these requests. To elaborate, I began by picking some arbitrary values for the two
measurements that met the constraints. These came out to be 40 meters of the straightaways
respectively and 1.2 meter lane widths. These values were chosen first as they would make further
calculations easier and actual construction of the track simpler. Should the radii of the semicircular
ends of the track have been chosen first, these numbers would come out to be irrational and
therefore, would be hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was both calculated in meters and degrees so that it would be easier to find this location.
This was needed to be found because otherwise, all runners except the one in lane 1 would end
up running more than they need. This would cause the race to be unfair because with a greater
distance, it would take a greater time to run the race. The former of the two methods, the starting
position by distance, was determined by taking the total distance found in the step before and
subtracting it from the intended distance, 200 meters. This value gave me how far ahead each
subsequent runner after the first had to be in order for the race to be fair. Again, 200 meters was
used because one of the criteria of the track design was that the total distance for one lap was to
be 200 meters. Finding the starting position by the central angle (degrees) was a bit more
complicated. To begin, I knew the circumference of the ends of the track from a previous step and
and the length of the offset from determining the starting position in meters. With this information, I
could use the Arc Length formula: AM360=ALC. I could then rearrange this formula to solve for
the AM, the measure of the central angle of the arc in degrees. This rearrangement resulted in the
following formula: AM=AL360C. This formula works in this application because the central angle
of the arc

Classic Vampirism and Recent Changes
CLASSIC VAMPIRISM AND RECENT CHANGES
Change often occurs due to the simple nature of time. What once stood as a finite and steadfast
definition will shift and evolve. Genres bleed into one another and mix mythologies. The realm
of the supernatural in literature does not lie outside this trend. Wizards no longer call
themselves Merlin and spend their days under the patronage of a heroic king; the average wizard
now goes by common names like Harry or Ron and attends school, saving the world on the side.
Cyclops presently means a man with laser eyes who wears leather and fights crime, not a one eyed
island beast. Vampirism does not escape such change. No longer can one consistently find a vampire
to be the bloodthirsty life sucking demon of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Control of animals: Power extends over many creatures, including insects, rats, fleas, and bats.
Eternal life: Varies in length; not all vampires are immortal.
Scale walls: Vampires are as nimble as spiders.
Transformation: Vampires can turn into bats, cats, dogs, wolves, butterflies, insects, rats, birds,
fleas, mice, and locusts.
Drain life force or psychic energy: An attribute of the psychic vampire. (Bunson 212)
The varied and numerous strengths of the traditional vampire serve to aid them in feeding on and
attacking humans. The supernatural qualities of the vampire s abilities only further the distinction
of vampires as inhuman. Weaknesses and methods of destroying a vampire are likewise listed:
Common Methods:
Staking: The most commonly used method in the world.
Beheading: Avoid splattering of blood.
Sunlight: Some aged and powerful vampires are immune.
Cremation: Found throughout the world; scatter the ashes.
Piercing with a sword: A blessed sword should be used.
Immersing in water: A bathtub can be used, but body disposal may prove a problem.
Drenching in garlic and holy water: Large amounts have to be hauled to the gravesite to assure a
clean kill; oil, wine, or vinegar can also be used.
Touching with a crucifix: Destroys a young vampire but is normally used only as a repellent.
Trapping in the grave: Iron bits, red peas, rice (for Chinese species), roses, garlic, stones, and holy
water can be used. Extracting

Psalm 23 Personal Narrative
Today made it 4 months, 4 weeks and 6 hours since we got off the helicopter and landed in this
desert. I was more of a newbie who just got off the parade squad and was handed a rifle and
some piece of encouragements. I remembered that final night before departure and the fun I had
with Sean my best friend and adopted army elder brother. Well, I am Nate or rather 1042 for those
who cared to ask a newbie.
Sean: Hey newbie! He calls me that when he is either drunk or wants to get me mad. Well, tonight
he was a bit tipsy from the words he spoke.
Nate: Sean, can t wait to get out there on the field and make my country proud. I replied ignoring
his newbie taunts.
Sean: You still a kid in the game. I will advise you not to jump in front of a bullet because of this
your zeal. He said laughing as we packed our bags into the waiting room which we nicknamed Hell
passport office.
As we hopped into the waiting military trucks to the cheers of the other soldiers, I felt a sought of
fulfilment. Sean led us in a military styled version Psalm 23. We all recited it with more vigour
and enthusiasm. As we journeyed further into the war zone, gunshot sounds, RPG s and grenades

I couldn t really feel my arms due to all the gun handling and shootings. We retired to sleep while
the other batch took over at the war front. Sean and his friends entertained us with stories from
their past war experiences before we all fell asleep. The early morning whistling from our troop
commander woke us up from our slumber. Sean and I quickly rinsed our face as we headed out
with the others to receive the instruction for the day. That day, we were to attack the hideouts of
the terrorist in the main city. Sean and I were assigned to the same team which at least made me
happy. We boarded the bus that was to take us to the town as we waved goodbye to the other troop

How could one deranged man voluntarily walk into an elementary school and open fire on children
who haven t even had all their teeth come in yet? Newtown, Connecticut is like any other small
suburban town; quiet, quaint and safe. That was until a twenty four year old sociopath (Alexander,
Barrett, Donnelly, Swaine), by the name of Adam Lanza, put this charming town on the map, and
not for a decent notable reason. Sandy HookElementary School educates students grades
kindergarten through fifth and Lanza forced his way into the kindergarten and first grade level

innocent children s lives, as well as a handful of heroic teachers, were taken away in a matter of
seconds, since each victim was shot three to eleven times, according to medical examiner, H.
Wayne Carver (Circa Part 4). Superintendent Janet Robinson commented, A lot of children are
alive today because of actions the teachers took. (Circa Part 10) A total of twenty six individuals

In James Thurber s short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the main character, Mr. Mitty,
immerses himself into an alternate reality several times throughout the piece to escape the
hollow, unexciting life he leads. These instances in which he takes the place of others in more

without the direction of the two other experts fortifies the idea that he only wishes to become a

daydreaming, he leaves his car in the care of a valet and goes about his business of purchasing
some new overshoes. Mitty soon remembers that he was to not only buy the shoes, but

Terrorism has been creating havoc across the globe for the entirety of recorded history. Today, with
the invention of the Internet and different computer programs, these radical groups that enact these
deadly attacks are able to change the way they operate through the use of technological advances to
further their onslaught on humanity. The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation defines
terrorismas the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or
coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political
or social objectives. (International vs. Domestic Terrorism). Every person on the planet can be
affected by terrorism, regardless of religion, gender, or race. Throughout history radical groups
who become obsessed with their own opinions and beliefs try to force others to believe in their
views through displays of violence and terror. Contrary to modern beliefs that terrorists are only
radical Islam groups like Al Qaeda and Isis, but in reality almost every group of people from
Christians to even environmentalists have enacted radical terrorist attacks. Terrorism, like
technology, is not exclusive to industrialized nations or countries but is available to anyone with the
right resources. These technologies are used throughout the world to connect average people to
others and is almost always used for good. Terrorist organizations take advantage of new found

The Law And Civil Law
As American citizens it is our duty to follow the laws stated in the American Constitution in
order to maintain our rights to be free. If we fail to follow the laws we lose our rights as free
citizens in these United States. Our Department of Justice mission statement is: To enforce the
law and defend the interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety
against threats foreign and domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling
crime; to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and
impartial administration of justice for all Americans. This just means to keep the United States
safe and justified. It is for people who threaten that need to be punished in order for our country
to remain a safe place. Laws are made to protect and two types of laws are Criminal Law and
Civil Law. They both punish wrong doers but different kinds. Criminal Law is the body of
statutory and common law that deals with crime and the legal punishment of criminal offenses.
While Civil Law deals with the disputes between individuals, organizations, or between the two, in
which compensation is awarded to the victim. In terms of punishment they are different because in
Criminal Law A guilty defendant is punished by either incarceration in a jail or fine paid to the
government, or, in exceptional cases, the death penalty. Crimes are divided into two broad classes:
Felonies and Misdemeanors. Defendant can be

Why Author Use Pen Names
Pen names are very useful to authors, and all authors that use pen names have pretty valid reasons
to use them in a way to benefit themselves in their career. Many authors use pen names as a security
for themselves to avoid the hate mail and the interference with fans coming into their personal lives.
Pennames also allow authors to have freedom when they are writingso no one knows who they
really are, this lets the authors let go of the stress and fear of being judged and criticized by family
and friends, it allows them release from their personal life.
Some authors don t use pen names because of the fear of what people might think of their career
but as an easier way to get published. Especially women authors did the in the earlier years

History of the Viola s Role in Part-Writing for Chamber Music

Mini Research Paper #2
History of the Viola s Role in Part Writing for Chamber Music
There is considerable debate amongst scholars as to whether the birth of the viola preceded or
succeeded that of the violin. However, iconographic and documentary evidence indicate that the
violin, viola, and cello most likely evolved together as a family of instruments very early in the
sixteenth century and almost certainly in northern Italy.
Part writing for the viola in chamber music has changed dramatically over time. By the end of the
seventeenth century, while the violin had remained popular in chamber music, the viola was very
much neglected. It was not until the end of the eighteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
The end of the eighteenth century marked a change in the treatment of the viola in chamber
music. The change came about partly because a basic concept of late eighteenth century
chamber music was that a single player played each part (thus setting chamber music apart from
the orchestra where each string part . . . was played by several players). [2] A greater equality of
part writing can be observed in the mature chamber music, especially string quartets, of Mozart
and Beethoven. In Mozart s last string quartet (K. 590, 1790), the part writing is equalized, and
solos are given to the viola, with a considerable degree of virtuosity demanded of the instrument.
In the passage below, the first violin states the melody and then two bars later the viola plays the
same passage just an octave lower. Example 1. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
, String Quartet no. 23, k.
590, 1st Movement, mm. 51 54[3]

This example clearly demonstrates equal part writing for the viola with that of the violin or the
other instruments. In conclusion, it is difficult to answer the question as to why the viola fell out of
favor in chamber music from the time period following its birth in the early sixteenth century to the
end of the seventeenth century. One possible reason is that no parts of

Music Plays A Influence On My Life
Music plays a tremendous role in my life and always has. From the age of five, my parents
introduced to me to one particular type of music, which was gospel and it has been a part of who
I am ever since. I can remember waking up early on Sunday morning hearing gospel music from
artist such as Kim Burrell, Shirley Caesar, and Mary Mary. I began learning these particular gospel
songs and then I gained the courage to sing these songs in church. At that moment, I knew singing
was a passion of mine and musicbecame food to my soul. I would have to say the moment in my
life where I strongly became influenced by music was as a child between the ages of five and
twelve.
Then when I entered middle school, I joined the school band. I played two instruments, the
trombone and trumpet. Although I truly enjoyed playing those two instruments, I ve always
dreamed of playing the piano or violin but I never gained the opportunity to receive lessons. During
the seventh grade, I joined the Needwood Middle School Choir. We sung gospel music and
Christmas music during the holiday season. With gaining so much musical experience during my
time in Middle School, my church appointed me to Youth Choir Director for Salem St. John Baptist
Church.
Overall, I prefer Gospel music for so many different reasons. One of the reasons I prefer to listen
to Gospel music is because of the messages behind this type of music. God comes first and he
truly is the head of my life. As a Christian, by me listening to

Revenge in Wuthering Heights Essay
Revenge in Wuthering Heights Novels often use the emotion of hate to create tension and distress
in the plot. Wuthering Heights uses Heathcliff s disdain for the other characters to add conflict to
the story. Wuthering Heights examines the source of Heathcliff s hate as well as its effects on the
other characters throughout the story. Heathcliff s relationships with other characters also suggests
the universal theme that breeds hatred. Hindley plants the seeds of hate into Heathcliff by treating
him cruelly as a child to begin with. This past happening creates the mutual scornful attitude
between Heathcliff and Hindley, which spreads into the rest of the characters in the novel.

adults. As soon as Hindley s father dies, Heathcliff is taught the true meaning of hate by Hindley.
As Heathcliff ages, his hate for Hindley grows inside of him, along with a need for revenge.
Heathcliff s need for revenge allows him to formulate his diabolical plan for taking over both the
Grange and the Heights, upon return from his three year sojourn. Heathcliff s ability to gamble
the Heights away from Hindley foreshadows the unyielding power of Heithcliff s hate when
fueled by revenge. Thus establishing hate as the source of Heathcliff s revenge. Heathcliff s

Heathcliff s vicious watch dogs ensure the security of the Heights because maintaining complete

against them. Heathcliff s reappearance is his first act of revenge, because he immediately makes

King Henry Viii And The Schism
King Henry VIII and the Schism
St. Augustine, a Catholic saint that helped developed the Western Catholic Church, once said There
is nothing more serious than the sacrilege of schism because there is no just case of severing the
unity of the church (St. Augustine). Through this quote it is learned of the significance of the
Catholic Church saw to staying together and avoiding a schism( a split between parties based on
different beliefs). The Catholics believed that in the event of a break in the church would cause a
great disaster because they believed that the church needs to stay together as a whole or it would
be blasphemy, and heresy. The Church also believed that if the church was to have a schism it
would destroy the unity and sanctity of the church. This in fact would be believed to take away
from the church in the manner of it not being the only church with the same mission. Therefore
when King Henry VIII ( the second Tudor, monarch, who ruled from 1509 1547) separated from
the Catholic Church it went completely against the mission that St. Augustine was trying to teach
us through his comments about the church having a schism. The dangers it could have caused
were believed to lead to a destruction of the church and lead to the end of the Catholic Church all
together. Although there are people that view King Henry VIII actions as positive for Europe and
beneficial to Europe especially England, it should be seen that King Henry VIII actions were not

Disparity Between Imprisonment Rate And Crime Rate
The Disparity Between Imprisonment Rate and Crime Rate in Australia
By Christopher Batho During the period of 2002 to 2014, the imprisonment rate in Australia
increased while at the same time the crime rate decreased. This essay will aim to give reasons and
theories as to why this apparent disparity between the rising imprisonment rate and decreasing crime
rate exists. To do this, the purposes for punishment will be examined, how and why this purpose of
punishment has changed over time, the sociological and criminological theories that best explain
this disparity, and finally the implications on society through these criminal justice trends. However
firstly we will examine the statistics that prove this disparity. Between 2002 and ... Show more

Property crime includes unlawful entry with intent (UEWI), motor vehicle theft (MVT) and other
theft. The total number of offences for property crime has decreased from 1,188,582 in 2002 to
773348 in 2012. From both sets of data, it can be calculated that in the period of 2002 to 2012, the
imprisonment rate increased 13.5 percent yet the violent crime and property crime rates decreased
26 percent and 35 percent respectively. The question is, how is this possible? This will be answered
later but now the purposes for punishment will now be studied. When a person is guilty of a crime,
it is society s job to punish this person for their act. Once the person has been found guilty, they are
then sentenced by a judge with a certain purpose or purposes for the punishment. The main four
purposes used are retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation and incapacitation. Retribution is defined
by Mani as the offender must be punished simply because the wrongful act merits condemnation
and punishment. (Reference). Deterrence is based on the idea that criminal behaviour can be
deterred if punishment is swift, certain, and severe enough to counter the benefits or pleasure
gained from committing crime. (Reference). Rehabilitation of an offender may be achieved through
education or therapy. However, it must be understood that in order for rehabilitation to be

PESTLE Analysis on Tesco
Therefore, by discussing the environmental factors of PESTLE , in my personal opinion, I strongly
believe that the Political , the Economic and the Legal environments have the most impact on
Tesco as it operates internationally, in the United Kingdom and within 12 markets across Asia and
Europe. For this very reason it very important to consider all possible, political, economic and legal
structures, impacts and outcomes which might affect the overall success of the company as they
play a major role in relation to one another.
When looking at the political factors for Tesco, and, as it operates in a globalized environment with
locations across the world, the company s performance is extremely influenced by the political
and legislative functions of each country. In terms of legislations under employment, the
government really encourages retailers to provide work place opportunities from, flexible, lower
paid, local based jobs to highly skilled, paid, and centrally located jobs (Balchin, 1994) to meet
certain demands relating to students, senior citizens and working parents. The company
understands that while being in the retail industry, it has a large impact on individuals and the
work place (the development of new stores may often be seen as a conflict to other retail sectors
due to the fact that the traditional stores go out of business or are forced to cut certain cost in
order to being able to compete) as being a fundamentally local and labour intensive sector.

Feudal Oath
Law and oaths were the basis of feudalism, without them the system would be a chaotic mess.
The laws that governed serfs very strict and limited their freedom greatly, giving them almost no
control of their life. Serfs were at the bottom of the feudal system, a serf was someone who was
bound to the land he or she worked on. They had almost no control over their lives, they could not
leave their land, they provided service to their lords and nobles, served in their lords house, and paid
taxes to their lord (Richardson 2). The only reason why they did this was for protection and a
home in the manor. The reason why these peasants wanted shelter so badly was because
diseases were everywhere and manors were few and widespread, it could take days of travel to
get from one manor to the next and even then a peasant would be forced to stay in that manor.
After a vassal made his feudal oath he was given a fief from his lord, it had land and peasants for
him to watch over. The core of the feudal oath was a vassal, who was usually a knight, giving
loyalty to his lord in return for a fief, this fief often included land, and maybe armour and weapons,
or even a horse. By... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knights were also important to the structure of feudalism because they protected peasants, they did
this in return for a share of what the peasants produced. Feudalism was a system based on loyalty
where the serfs worked hard and the nobles protected them, this system was used to govern all
people in the Middle Ages. A knight was a member of a medieval army who wore armor and used
crude but effective tactics to win battles, they charged at the enemy with swords and shields to take

Political Philosophy Of Liberalism
Liberalism is a political viewpoint that is established on the thoughts of liberty and equality. Thus,
liberalists promote various ideas that are aligned to the concepts of liberty and equality such as
freedom of speech, freedom of religion, gender equality, and civil rights. In general, it can be
argued that the philosophy of liberalismis focused on protecting and promoting the freedom of the
people (Celikates and Jansen). As such, it presents the people as the central issue of politics. In
fact, according to the liberalists, the main function of the government is to protect individuals from
being oppressed by others. Nonetheless, liberalists are also aware that in the process of offering
this protection, the government is also likely to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are perceived to be weaker than men owing to the independence of men ad ability to
control resources. Tim look sees liberalism as an impediment to social communism owing to the

socio economic and political excellence.
3. What is neoliberalism (you get a sense of neoliberalism in David Harvey, Elizabeth Povinelli,
Michel Foucault, and Wendy Brown s work)? What critiques of neoliberalism do Harvey,
Povinelli, and Brown offer? Neoliberalism refers to a perspective that sees mall time as working
time. It encourages people to participate in socio economic activities at all the time in a bid to
realizing the desired development. It plays an essential role in empowering the people to remain
committed to realizing success in life by engaging them to work at all the times (Harvey 44). It
does not acknowledge the significance of leisure in the socio economic development of an
individual. Critics of neoliberalism are against the fact that a person solely focuses on realizing
success at the expense of their wellbeing. It is of the essence for a person to allocate adequate
time for rest and leisure to realize the desired socio economic success (Harvey 47). Although the
critics of neoliberalism are not against working, they are against the non stop working of the

Foreign Market Entry
Entering a foreign market can be delicate for a business. There are different steps to entering a
market abroad, and there are different strategies to look at, as they all vary. There is no single
approach to enter all forms of international business. Many benefits come from expanding a
business globally. Making the move into foreign markets will increase the size of an
organization, their profits, and the overall global economy. A company must determine trade
barriers, the different risks associated with their entry, and develop a strategy (Hill 2008). Steps
to entering the foreign market vary, but here are six basic steps to consider: First the organization
needs to assess their competitive advantage. Second determine the different markets to enter and
what advantage and disadvantage each market offers. The third step is to figure out which
product or line an organization will enter the market with. Fourth step is to make an evaluation of
the resources needed. Step five is what the limitations are going to be for the organization. Finally,
step six is to choose what method of entry is the best for the business (Sjolander). Once each of
these steps are complete, a company is ready to enter the foreign marketplace. From the six steps to
foreign market entry, step six was choosing what method is going to be used. To determine what
method of entry to use, an organization has six options to choose from and they include exporting,
turnkey projects, licensing, franchising,

Describe Emerson s Idea Of Self-Reliance
Analysis of Self Reliance
1. Describe Emerson s idea of self reliance in your own words. To what extent do you agree or
disagree with his philosophy? Would you consider yourself to be self reliant and to what
degree? Emerson s idea of self reliance is that a person must seek truth above all else in life, or
else their life has been wasted. To find truth a person must not listen or be bothered by the
opinions of others, form their own opinions and not just adopt whatever may be popular at the
time, not change their purpose in life to fit someone else s expectations of what it should be, and
above all to seek your own individual truth without conforming to what the world believes or
wants to change you into. I agree with Emerson that a person should find their own reason for
living, and that that purpose should drive their actions and intentions, I also agree that other
people s opinions on what you should do with your own life should be ignored. However, I disagree
with Emerson on his idea that a person should not be bound to what they have said in the past,
and that you should have no regard for consistency of actions or words. I believe that a person
should be consistent in their words in actions, or else they are not being authentic to themselves.
I also do not agree with Emerson in that if a person conforms at all to societal views or pressures
that everything they say or do will be false because one portion of their beliefs is borrowed from
the world. I believe

The Importance Of Bicycle And Helmet Safety
People ride bikes for various reasons. Some people ride bikes for fitness purposes, some ride bikes
to get from place to place, and some ride bikes to clear their mind after having a long day.
Whether you ride for fun or for sport it is important to know the factors that go into bicycle and
helmet safety. A study in 2014 shows that 103.7 million people rode a bike that year and 34
percent of Americans age three or older rode a bike at least once in that year ( Study: 103.7 Million
Americans Ride Bikes ). The importance of bicyclesafety cannot be underestimated. According to
the 2008 Alabama Traffic Crash Facts, there were 182 bicycle crash injuries and four fatalities. In
2008, children 14 and under accounted for 27% of the bicycle crash injuries. Bicycle helmets are
85% 88% effective in preventing head and brain injuries; however, only 20% 25% of all bicyclists
wear bicycle helmets ( Bicycle Safety ). One of the first factors that go into bicycle and helmet
safety is learning how to ride a bike. Many people learn how to ride a bike when they are four or
five years old and some do not learn until they are older (Donaldson). Learning how to ride a bike
is the first and most important step because without knowing how to ride a bike you will not know
what type of bike you will need.
The first step when learning how to ride a bike is to make sure you are in a suitable location.

America s Decision to Drop the Atomic Bomb Essay
Perhaps the most controversial and heavily scrutinized issue of the twentieth century was President
Harry Truman s decision to unleash atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the summer of
1945. While the sequence of events preceding that fateful summer morning of August 6,1945 are
fully understood, the motives behind Truman s actions are shrouded in controversy. Top military
officialspublicly denounced the use of such a horrendous weapon, while the obvious advantages to
the bomb, traditionalists argue, was a shortened Pacific War. Parallactic views between traditional
beliefs and revisionist theories suggest that the issue is still very much unresolved. Why is the issue
so hotly debated? Partially because of the overwhelming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition: The Japanese army was already training its civilians to fight with sharpened bamboo

being effective in those towns which the U.S. captured. The real predicament involving the
invasion of Japan was the fierce resistance expected during and after the assault.
Because of such drastic Japanese resistance, it would not only be impractical, it would be senseless
to launch an attempt to invade and occupy Japan. Thus, dropping the atomic bomb was a military
necessity in order to prevent a disastrous and precarious land invasion.
By avoiding a highly questionable land invasion, the bomb saved half a million American lives. In
his personal diary, Truman wrote, General Marshall told me that it might cost half a million
American lives to force the enemy s surrender on his home grounds. This estimate was based on
previous battle figures at Okinawa, where Americans suffered 50,000 casualties despite
outnumbering the Japanese by two and a half to one.

In the early twentieth century, at the height of the progressive movement, Muckrakers had

The Savings Loans Crisis Of The 1980s
The Savings Loans crisis of the 1980s produced the biggest collapse of US financial institutions
since the Great Depression. It emerged due to volatile interest rate climate in late 1970s when
depositors withdrew from these S L institutions in large number and put them in money market
funds where they could get higher returns as these money market funds were not under the
purview of Regulation Q which restricted the interest these S Ls could offer to their depositors.

This recapitalization bill was used as a bargaining chip against the Bank Board which had
become more rigorous in dealing with these insolvent thrifts. So, recapitalization was postponed

they allowed recapitalisation but along with that, they put a forbearance clause which precluded
the regulators from hastily closing these insolvent firms. And as we know it was this delayed
closure of these failed firms which actually inflated the S L crisis. So, the reluctance of congress

Paganism In Christianity Essay
Religions across the globe have their own distinctive rites and rituals, idols, traditions, and values.
Each have in common a desire to explain something unexplainable by common wisdom, or
attributing some aspect of life to some higher power. Many religions have at their heart etiological
stories, which explain some sort of natural phenomenon through the physical manifestation of their
deity or deities. From high winds and thunderstorms to love, fertility, and the sun, such religions
focus on the physical world in this life. Other religions try to explain the quot;next quot; life or the
afterlife. These religions usually give a moral code to live by, with stricter adherence to this code

They, too, had their heavens and hells, deities and demi gods. In short, each religion differs
somewhat, but they all have similarities as well. Many stories in several classical religions share
common themes or events. There are a great many similarities between stories of Babylonian,
Greek, and Christian origin. An example of a shared event would be quot;the flood quot; story.
Each of these religions tries to explain the reason of a severe flood, which historians have found
actually occurred in their shared region. Christianity eventually replaced the quot;old quot;
religions, mostly by means of the spread of the Holy Roman Empire. There were many who
opposed being converted, but after the remaining members of these religions realized that failure
to convert meant you were a heretic, which meant death, the job of converting was much easier.
Even then, some people did not want others telling them how to worship. They had their rituals
and customs they didn t want new ones. This sentiment was conveyed to the leaders of the Roman
Churches, who quot;bent quot; their rules and procedures to fit these pagan rites and rituals. A
good way to convert someone is to make him or her feel like it s the same religion. This is how
Christianity has become riddled with

Johnny Got His Gun Analysis
Leaving the Harbor Every individual comes to a point in their life in which they begin to swim
away from the harbor their parents raised them in, and begin navigating their own life. Dalton
Trumbo uniquely portrays the familiar concept of coming of age, within a passage from his novel
Johnny Got His Gun, in which he depicts a sonwanting to take a friend fishing instead of his father
who has taken him annually during their camping trip. Trumbo gives insight into the internal
turmoil that strikes when confronting ones parents about wanting to drift away from the anchor
they ve been for them. He clearly articulates his point, illustrating the flow in thought from tense to
reflective using precise selection of detail, applying a shift in point of view, and naturalistic
imagery. Trumbo shifts the tone from tense to reflective through effectively selecting details which
portray the impact of the encounter between the father and son. Opening the passageTrumbo asserts
the significance of the tradition by carefully depicting the campsite, in a way which he conveys an
atmosphere of nostalgia. Describing how his memories included the pine needles...falling on their

necessarily bad, but it is a natural human quality to want to push out reality. However, forms of
escapism can be dangerous. Substance abuse has become a huge issue within all age groups, but
specifically teenagers. Teen alcohol statistics in the United States show that among 10 million

power to ruin lives. Escapism is also found in other forms of love, which is definitely something
Gaines includes in his book. People find and use love in all different sorts of ways and I

you the power to escape your hardships, but to also create new memories, and learn more about

the loss of the middle class. Many scholars have suggested that factors such as the change in the
modern thinking of living, population flow, and government policies can lead to this declination

this neighborhood with social disadvantage and marginalized population such as recent immigrants,
single parent families, and racialized people who were unable to receive affordable

housing, poverty concentration, and gentrification. Theoretically, the perception of urban inequality
is not only about the low economic status, working class displacement and ethnic heterogeneity, but
rather the quality of street spectacles, housing, and residential stability that lead to the current

Different Types of Intellectual Property Rights
Patents are legal titles granting the owner the exclusive right to make commercial use of an
invention. To qualify for patent protection, inventions must be new, non obvious, and commercially
applicable. The term of protection is usually limited to 20 years, after which the invention moves
into public domain. The patent system is one of the oldest and most traditional forms of IPRs
protection. Almost all manufacturing industries make use of the patent system to protect inventions
from being copied by competing firms. Since the early 1980s, patents have also been granted for
agricultural biotechnology products and processes and for certain aspects of computer software.
As an adjunct to the patent system, some countries have introduced utility models (or petty
patents). The novelty criteria for utility models are less stringent and are typically granted for
small, incremental innovations. Their term of protection is far shorter than for regular invention
patents (typically four to seven years). Similarly, industrial designs protect the ornamental
features of consumer goods such as shoes or cars. To be eligible for protection, designs must be
original or new. They are generally conferred for a period of five to fifteen years.
Trademarks are words, signs, or symbols that identify a certain product or company. They seek to
offer consumers the assurance of purchasing what they intend to

April 19, 2017 The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer
The Adventures Of Tom Sawyerby Mark Twain is a 271 page novel. Tom is a boy, and merely and
exactly an ordinary boy on the moral side. What makes him delightful to the reader is that on the
imaginative side he is very much more, and though every boy has wild and fantastic dreams, this
boy cannot rest till he has somehow realized them. The story is a wonderful study of the boy mind,
which inhabits a world quite distinct from that in which he is bodily present with his elders, ... Show

Tom Sawyer lives with his Aunt Polly and his half brother Sid. He skips school to swim and is
made to whitewash the fence the next day as punishment. He cleverly persuades his friends to trade
him small treasures for the privilege of doing his work. He then trades the treasures for Sunday
School tickets which one normally receives for memorizing verses consistently, redeeming them for
a Bible, much to the surprise and bewilderment of the superintendent who thought it was simply
preposterous that this boy had warehoused two thousand sheaves of Scriptural wisdom on his
premises a dozen would strain his capacity, without a doubt.
Tom falls in love with Becky Thatcher, a new girl in town, and persuades her to get engaged by
kissing him. But their romance collapses when she learns Tom has been engaged previously to
Amy Lawrence. Shortly after Becky shuns him, he accompanies Huckleberry Finn to the graveyard
at night, where they witness a trio of body snatchers, Dr. Robinson, Muff Potter, and Injun Joe,
getting into a fight. While Potter is knocked unconscious during the scuffle, Injun Joe stabs the
doctor to death and later pins the blame on Potter, who is arrested for the murder. Potter is then
shunned by the whole town, except Huck and Tom, who knew the real story. They decided to keep
mum about this incident because they are afraid of Injun Joe murdering them. Tom and Huck run
away to an island. While enjoying their

Fly By night
TOPIC: Financial Statement Analysis CHAPTER LINK: Chapter 5 Fly By Night International
Group: Can This Company Be Saved? Douglas C. Mather, Founder, Chairman, and Chief
Executive of Fly By Night International Group (FBN), lived the fast paced, risk seeking life that
he tried to inject into his Company. Flying the Company s Learjets, he logged 28 world speed
records. Once he throttled a company plane to the top of Mount Everest in 3 1/2 minutes. These
activities seemed perfectly appropriate at the time. Mather was a Navy fighter pilot in Vietnam and
then flew commercial airlines. In the mid 1970s, he started FBN as a pilot training school. With the

The Myth of Equal Education Essay
America is often enamored of itself as the champion of equality in every aspect of its society;
however, this is often not the case. This is true in every aspect of life, but is very evident
specifically in the American education system. Although America claims to give an equal
education to all, regardless of any external factors, economic class often plays a role in what type
and how good of an educationa studentmay receive. Since education is the basis for future success,
this inequity resulting from socioeconomic status implies that this is where inequality in everyday
life starts, and that the system generates this inequality. If this is true, then one might ask, what then
is the purpose of education? If economic class predetermines... Show more content on

His desire for learning was baffling to his family. Rodriguez says I devoted myself to my studies.
I became bookish, puzzling to all my family. Ambition set me apart (195). Even from an early
age, the defining characteristic of Rodriguez s unusual education displays itself. That
characteristic is isolation. Isolation is what enabled Rodriguez to have such an exceptional
education, and started him on the path to believing that through hard work anyone could receive a
good education. Rodriguez is isolated from his family by his very desire to become more
educated. At first he shunned his heritage, and isolated himself further. As his education continued,
so did his isolation, until eventually he realized what had happened, and returned to his family,
and found that the isolation and education had changed him in such a way that he could not relate
to them anymore. He says ...after the early relief, this return, came suspicion, nagging until I
realized that I had not neatly sidestepped the impact of schooling. My desire to do so was
precisely the measure of how much I remained an academic. (205). Because of his education, he
realizes that he has become different, and that realization is what makes his difference real.
Malcolm X, on the other hand, had significantly different experiences, though at its core, his
education shared a significant similarity with Rodriguez s. Essentially, Malcolm X grew up on the
streets as a criminal. He

Sigmund Freud s Life Research Paper
Sigmund Freud s Adventure
Have you ever heard of Sigmund Freud? If not then, he is the one who is well known as the
father of Psychoanalysis. Freud was one of the modern day psychologist, he prepared a
technique for understanding the human behavior, and the effort resulted a complete theory of
personality and psychotherapy ever developed. Freud is the firstborn in his family of three boys
and five girls. He was born in Freiberg, a rural town near Ostrau in northwestern Moravia. Freud
had many interests in his early age, because of his Jewish heritage his choices to pick a career
were limited. Freud was the one who continued to modify his theory for a long period of time.
Psychoanalysis is focuses on the unconscious aspects of personality. Freud thinks that our brain is
like an iceberg, it is hidden in unconscious. He thinks that conscious level of mind is the tip of the
iceberg, which we could see, but the unconscious was the hidden part beneath the water. Freud
theories have three levels of awareness: the conscious, the preconscious, and the unconscious. Freud
also divided the personality structure into three components id, ego, and superego, which has
different principles and different modes of thinking. Freud has another major aspect of
psychoanalysis in the development of defense mechanism. Defense mechanism are certain ways
people react to frustration and conflict by deceiving themselves by their goals and by maintain their
self esteem and to avoid anxiety. It is the

Positivism In The Birthmark
Positivism is a philosophical system that holds that every rationally justifiable assertion can be
scientifically verified or is capable of logical or mathematical proof, and that therefore rejects
metaphysics and theism. Essentially, it means the authentic learning is logical information and that
such information can just originate from positive confirmation or hypotheses through strict logical
strategy (methods for explaining wonders in view of social occasion perceptible, observational and
quantifiable proof, subject to partial or standards of thinking.) In The Birthmark , a short story by
Nathaniel Hawthorne, a youthful researcher named Aylmer endeavors to remedy a lethal
imperfection in his young spouse, Georgiana. The blemish surprisingly... Show more content on

Aylmer s perplexity brought about by the shaky signifier, the skin coloration, displayed alongside
the inconceivability of coming back to the paralinguistic wholeness everybody wishes. Since
language shapes and ultimately structures our unconscious and conscious minds and thus shapes
our self identity], Aylmer s misery over dialect shows itself as his yearning to dispose of the skin
coloration. By perusing Aylmer s The Skin coloration from a Lacanian perspective, the reader can
characterize Aylmer much uniquely in contrast to in different readings. Rather than considering
Aylmer being malicious and making progress toward extreme flawlessness or perusing into the
wrongs or threats of science, the reader considers Aylmer to be a more altruistic, normal individual
in the typical stage looking to discover solidarity in the genuine stage. This likewise permits the
reader to comprehend why he tries so urgently to cure at the end of the day kills his significant
other over something as apparently irrelevant as a skin

Immigration In Charles Mee s Big Love
Charles Mee s Big Love is one of many recent reinterpretations of ancient myths with a modern
twist. A central point in both Big Love and Aeschylus The Suppliants is the issue of the outsider.
The suppliants, or immigrants, in both plays are seeking refuge from the practice of intermarriage
in their supposedly barbaric homeland, however they receive a rather harsh reception in Argos. The
concept of immigrationwas an incredibly prevalent issue in ancient Greecewith the start of the
establishment of the Delian Leagueproviding a new national identity, and immigration remains an
important issue today. Throughout history there has always been anger simmering under the
surface of the immigration issue due to fear of the other. In The Suppliants , the danaids are
described as a sun burned race (Aesch. Suppl. 155) with Nile burned cheeks (Aesch. Suppl. 71). In
Mee s reinterpretation the women again appear different from the general Greek populous, and are
treated differently upon their arrival because of that fact, showing an intolerance for immigrants
that persists into modernity. In The Suppliants the Danaids differences from the natives of Argos
extend even further since: not only do they look different, but also the Danaids sound different and
have different customs. In the opening choral song, they supplicate hilly Apia (i.e. Argos), and ask
it to pay good attention to our foreign speech (karbanos auda) (Aesch. Suppl. 117 19). Later they

Verrocchio was a well known artist at the time. Verrocchio was trained as a goldsmith and went
on to work as a sculptor and a painter. He mostly did painting s and sculpting in his artwork s
because they were the only style s for art that he used.
One of Leonardo s famous painting is the Mona Lisa and it was published 1503. The Painting is
Lisa Del Giaconda and it is thought that Leonardo painted this for her for the birth of new son and
a new home. In the painting Da Vinci used sfumato techniques, cosmic ink and with a cotton wood
panel as the surface. The Mona Lisa today is located at the Louvre Museum.
Another one of Leonardo s famous painting is the Last Supper and it was completed in 1498. Da

  • 2. Connecticut State Track Committee Case Analysis The Connecticut State Track Committee, Upon your request to design a 200 meter indoor track that fulfills the constraints of straightaways measuring 34 to 44 meters and lanes measuring 1.07 to 1.22 meters wide, I have designed a track that should fulfill these requests. To elaborate, I began by picking some arbitrary values for the two measurements that met the constraints. These came out to be 40 meters of the straightaways respectively and 1.2 meter lane widths. These values were chosen first as they would make further calculations easier and actual construction of the track simpler. Should the radii of the semicircular ends of the track have been chosen first, these numbers would come out to be irrational and therefore, would be hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was both calculated in meters and degrees so that it would be easier to find this location. This was needed to be found because otherwise, all runners except the one in lane 1 would end up running more than they need. This would cause the race to be unfair because with a greater distance, it would take a greater time to run the race. The former of the two methods, the starting position by distance, was determined by taking the total distance found in the step before and subtracting it from the intended distance, 200 meters. This value gave me how far ahead each subsequent runner after the first had to be in order for the race to be fair. Again, 200 meters was used because one of the criteria of the track design was that the total distance for one lap was to be 200 meters. Finding the starting position by the central angle (degrees) was a bit more complicated. To begin, I knew the circumference of the ends of the track from a previous step and and the length of the offset from determining the starting position in meters. With this information, I could use the Arc Length formula: AM360=ALC. I could then rearrange this formula to solve for the AM, the measure of the central angle of the arc in degrees. This rearrangement resulted in the following formula: AM=AL360C. This formula works in this application because the central angle of the arc ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Classic Vampirism and Recent Changes CLASSIC VAMPIRISM AND RECENT CHANGES Change often occurs due to the simple nature of time. What once stood as a finite and steadfast definition will shift and evolve. Genres bleed into one another and mix mythologies. The realm of the supernatural in literature does not lie outside this trend. Wizards no longer call themselves Merlin and spend their days under the patronage of a heroic king; the average wizard now goes by common names like Harry or Ron and attends school, saving the world on the side. Cyclops presently means a man with laser eyes who wears leather and fights crime, not a one eyed island beast. Vampirism does not escape such change. No longer can one consistently find a vampire to be the bloodthirsty life sucking demon of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drenching in garlic and holy water: Large amounts have to be hauled to the gravesite to assure a clean kill; oil, wine, or vinegar can also be used. Touching with a crucifix: Destroys a young vampire but is normally used only as a repellent. I remembered that final night before departure and the fun I had with Sean my best friend and adopted army elder brother. Well, I am Nate or rather 1042 for those who cared to ask a newbie. • 12. History of the Viola s Role in Part-Writing for Chamber Music Carolyn Hunter Music 700 November 1, 2009 Mini Research Paper #2 History of the Viola s Role in Part Writing for Chamber Music There is considerable debate amongst scholars as to whether the birth of the viola preceded or succeeded that of the violin. However, iconographic and documentary evidence indicate that the violin, viola, and cello most likely evolved together as a family of instruments very early in the sixteenth century and almost certainly in northern Italy. Part writing for the viola in chamber music has changed dramatically over time. By the end of the seventeenth century, while the violin had remained popular in chamber music, the viola was very much neglected. It was not until the end of the eighteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The end of the eighteenth century marked a change in the treatment of the viola in chamber music. The change came about partly because a basic concept of late eighteenth century chamber music was that a single player played each part (thus setting chamber music apart from the orchestra where each string part . . . was played by several players). [2] A greater equality of part writing can be observed in the mature chamber music, especially string quartets, of Mozart and Beethoven. In Mozart s last string quartet (K. 590, 1790), the part writing is equalized, and solos are given to the viola, with a considerable degree of virtuosity demanded of the instrument. In the passage below, the first violin states the melody and then two bars later the viola plays the same passage just an octave lower. Example 1. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , String Quartet no. 23, k. 590, 1st Movement, mm. 51 54[3] [pic] This example clearly demonstrates equal part writing for the viola with that of the violin or the other instruments. In conclusion, it is difficult to answer the question as to why the viola fell out of favor in chamber music from the time period following its birth in the early sixteenth century to the end of the seventeenth century. One possible reason is that no parts of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the age of five, my parents introduced to me to one particular type of music, which was gospel and it has been a part of who I am ever since. I can remember waking up early on Sunday morning hearing gospel music from artist such as Kim Burrell, Shirley Caesar, and Mary Mary. I began learning these particular gospel songs and then I gained the courage to sing these songs in church. At that moment, I knew singing was a passion of mine and musicbecame food to my soul. I would have to say the moment in my life where I strongly became influenced by music was as a child between the ages of five and twelve. Then when I entered middle school, I joined the school band. I played two instruments, the trombone and trumpet. Although I truly enjoyed playing those two instruments, I ve always dreamed of playing the piano or violin but I never gained the opportunity to receive lessons. During the seventh grade, I joined the Needwood Middle School Choir. We sung gospel music and Christmas music during the holiday season. With gaining so much musical experience during my time in Middle School, my church appointed me to Youth Choir Director for Salem St. John Baptist Church. Overall, I prefer Gospel music for so many different reasons. One of the reasons I prefer to listen to Gospel music is because of the messages behind this type of music. • 17. King Henry Viii And The Schism King Henry VIII and the Schism St. Augustine, a Catholic saint that helped developed the Western Catholic Church, once said There is nothing more serious than the sacrilege of schism because there is no just case of severing the unity of the church (St. Augustine). Through this quote it is learned of the significance of the Catholic Church saw to staying together and avoiding a schism( a split between parties based on different beliefs). The Catholics believed that in the event of a break in the church would cause a great disaster because they believed that the church needs to stay together as a whole or it would be blasphemy, and heresy. The Church also believed that if the church was to have a schism it would destroy the unity and sanctity of the church. This in fact would be believed to take away from the church in the manner of it not being the only church with the same mission. Therefore when King Henry VIII ( the second Tudor, monarch, who ruled from 1509 1547) separated from the Catholic Church it went completely against the mission that St. Augustine was trying to teach us through his comments about the church having a schism. The dangers it could have caused were believed to lead to a destruction of the church and lead to the end of the Catholic Church all together. Although there are people that view King Henry VIII actions as positive for Europe and beneficial to Europe especially England, it should be seen that King Henry VIII actions were not actually ... Disparity Between Imprisonment Rate And Crime Rate The Disparity Between Imprisonment Rate and Crime Rate in Australia By Christopher Batho During the period of 2002 to 2014, the imprisonment rate in Australia increased while at the same time the crime rate decreased. This essay will aim to give reasons and theories as to why this apparent disparity between the rising imprisonment rate and decreasing crime rate exists. To do this, the purposes for punishment will be examined, how and why this purpose of punishment has changed over time, the sociological and criminological theories that best explain this disparity, and finally the implications on society through these criminal justice trends. The total number of offences for property crime has decreased from 1,188,582 in 2002 to 773348 in 2012. From both sets of data, it can be calculated that in the period of 2002 to 2012, the imprisonment rate increased 13.5 percent yet the violent crime and property crime rates decreased 26 percent and 35 percent respectively. The question is, how is this possible? This will be answered later but now the purposes for punishment will now be studied. Once the person has been found guilty, they are then sentenced by a judge with a certain purpose or purposes for the punishment. The main four purposes used are retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation and incapacitation. Retribution is defined by Mani as the offender must be punished simply because the wrongful act merits condemnation and punishment. (Reference). Deterrence is based on the idea that criminal behaviour can be deterred if punishment is swift, certain, and severe enough to counter the benefits or pleasure gained from committing crime. PESTLE Analysis on Tesco Therefore, by discussing the environmental factors of PESTLE , in my personal opinion, I strongly believe that the Political , the Economic and the Legal environments have the most impact on Tesco as it operates internationally, in the United Kingdom and within 12 markets across Asia and Europe. For this very reason it very important to consider all possible, political, economic and legal structures, impacts and outcomes which might affect the overall success of the company as they play a major role in relation to one another. When looking at the political factors for Tesco, and, as it operates in a globalized environment with locations across the world, the company s performance is extremely influenced by the political and legislative functions of each country. In terms of legislations under employment, the government really encourages retailers to provide work place opportunities from, flexible, lower paid, local based jobs to highly skilled, paid, and centrally located jobs (Balchin, 1994) to meet certain demands relating to students, senior citizens and working parents. The company understands that while being in the retail industry, it has a large impact on individuals and the work place (the development of new stores may often be seen as a conflict to other retail sectors due to the fact that the traditional stores go out of business or are forced to cut certain cost in order to being able to compete) as being a fundamentally local and labour intensive sector. ... The laws that governed serfs very strict and limited their freedom greatly, giving them almost no control of their life. Serfs were at the bottom of the feudal system, a serf was someone who was bound to the land he or she worked on. They had almost no control over their lives, they could not leave their land, they provided service to their lords and nobles, served in their lords house, and paid taxes to their lord (Richardson 2). The only reason why they did this was for protection and a home in the manor. The reason why these peasants wanted shelter so badly was because diseases were everywhere and manors were few and widespread, it could take days of travel to get from one manor to the next and even then a peasant would be forced to stay in that manor. After a vassal made his feudal oath he was given a fief from his lord, it had land and peasants for him to watch over. What is neoliberalism (you get a sense of neoliberalism in David Harvey, Elizabeth Povinelli, Michel Foucault, and Wendy Brown s work)? What critiques of neoliberalism do Harvey, Povinelli, and Brown offer? Neoliberalism refers to a perspective that sees mall time as working time. It plays an essential role in empowering the people to remain committed to realizing success in life by engaging them to work at all the times (Harvey 44). Many benefits come from expanding a business globally. Making the move into foreign markets will increase the size of an organization, their profits, and the overall global economy. A company must determine trade barriers, the different risks associated with their entry, and develop a strategy (Hill 2008). Steps to entering the foreign market vary, but here are six basic steps to consider: First the organization needs to assess their competitive advantage. Second determine the different markets to enter and what advantage and disadvantage each market offers. The third step is to figure out which product or line an organization will enter the market with. Fourth step is to make an evaluation of the resources needed. • 24. Describe Emerson s Idea Of Self-Reliance Analysis of Self Reliance 1. Describe Emerson s idea of self reliance in your own words. To what extent do you agree or disagree with his philosophy? Would you consider yourself to be self reliant and to what degree? Emerson s idea of self reliance is that a person must seek truth above all else in life, or else their life has been wasted. To find truth a person must not listen or be bothered by the opinions of others, form their own opinions and not just adopt whatever may be popular at the time, not change their purpose in life to fit someone else s expectations of what it should be, and above all to seek your own individual truth without conforming to what the world believes or wants to change you into. I agree with Emerson that a person should find their own reason for living, and that that purpose should drive their actions and intentions, I also agree that other people s opinions on what you should do with your own life should be ignored. However, I disagree with Emerson on his idea that a person should not be bound to what they have said in the past, and that you should have no regard for consistency of actions or words. I believe that a person should be consistent in their words in actions, or else they are not being authentic to themselves. I also do not agree with Emerson in that if a person conforms at all to societal views or pressures that everything they say or do will be false because one portion of their beliefs is borrowed from the world. A study in 2014 shows that 103.7 million people rode a bike that year and 34 percent of Americans age three or older rode a bike at least once in that year ( Study: 103.7 Million Americans Ride Bikes ). The importance of bicyclesafety cannot be underestimated. According to the 2008 Alabama Traffic Crash Facts, there were 182 bicycle crash injuries and four fatalities. One of the first factors that go into bicycle and helmet safety is learning how to ride a bike. Many people learn how to ride a bike when they are four or five years old and some do not learn until they are older (Donaldson). Learning how to ride a bike is the first and most important step because without knowing how to ride a bike you will not know what type of bike you will need. Top military officialspublicly denounced the use of such a horrendous weapon, while the obvious advantages to the bomb, traditionalists argue, was a shortened Pacific War. • 44. The Myth of Equal Education Essay America is often enamored of itself as the champion of equality in every aspect of its society; however, this is often not the case. This is true in every aspect of life, but is very evident specifically in the American education system. Although America claims to give an equal education to all, regardless of any external factors, economic class often plays a role in what type and how good of an educationa studentmay receive. Since education is the basis for future success, this inequity resulting from socioeconomic status implies that this is where inequality in everyday life starts, and that the system generates this inequality. If this is true, then one might ask, what then is the purpose of education? If economic class predetermines... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His desire for learning was baffling to his family. Rodriguez says I devoted myself to my studies. I became bookish, puzzling to all my family. Ambition set me apart (195). Even from an early age, the defining characteristic of Rodriguez s unusual education displays itself. That characteristic is isolation. Isolation is what enabled Rodriguez to have such an exceptional education, and started him on the path to believing that through hard work anyone could receive a good education. Rodriguez is isolated from his family by his very desire to become more educated. At first he shunned his heritage, and isolated himself further. As his education continued, so did his isolation, until eventually he realized what had happened, and returned to his family, and found that the isolation and education had changed him in such a way that he could not relate to them anymore. He says ...after the early relief, this return, came suspicion, nagging until I realized that I had not neatly sidestepped the impact of schooling. My desire to do so was precisely the measure of how much I remained an academic. (205). Because of his education, he realizes that he has become different, and that realization is what makes his difference real. Malcolm X, on the other hand, had significantly different experiences, though at its core, his education shared a significant similarity with Rodriguez s. Essentially, Malcolm X grew up on the streets as a criminal. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By perusing Aylmer s The Skin coloration from a Lacanian perspective, the reader can characterize Aylmer much uniquely in contrast to in different readings. Rather than considering Aylmer being malicious and making progress toward extreme flawlessness or perusing into the wrongs or threats of science, the reader considers Aylmer to be a more altruistic, normal individual in the typical stage looking to discover solidarity in the genuine stage. • 47. Immigration In Charles Mee s Big Love Charles Mee s Big Love is one of many recent reinterpretations of ancient myths with a modern twist. A central point in both Big Love and Aeschylus The Suppliants is the issue of the outsider. The suppliants, or immigrants, in both plays are seeking refuge from the practice of intermarriage in their supposedly barbaric homeland, however they receive a rather harsh reception in Argos. The concept of immigrationwas an incredibly prevalent issue in ancient Greecewith the start of the establishment of the Delian Leagueproviding a new national identity, and immigration remains an important issue today. Throughout history there has always been anger simmering under the surface of the immigration issue due to fear of the other. In The Suppliants , the danaids are described as a sun burned race (Aesch. Suppl. 155) with Nile burned cheeks (Aesch. Suppl. 71). In Mee s reinterpretation the women again appear different from the general Greek populous, and are treated differently upon their arrival because of that fact, showing an intolerance for immigrants that persists into modernity. In The Suppliants the Danaids differences from the natives of Argos extend even further since: not only do they look different, but also the Danaids sound different and have different customs. In the opening choral song, they supplicate hilly Apia (i.e. Argos), and ask it to pay good attention to our foreign speech (karbanos auda) (Aesch. Suppl. 117 19). Later they are concerned ...
