The document describes how the author used the path tool in Adobe Illustrator to create continuity between the masthead and inside pages of a magazine. Specifically, the author made the letter "h" in "Fresh" continue down the page in a curve and then back up to incorporate the issue number and slogan. First, the author drew a curved path using the pen tool while holding shift. Then, the type tool was used to add text that follows the curve of the path. This created the effect of text bending around the curve to fit within the magazine layout.

I decided to have the 'h' in 'Fresh' (the masthead) to continue down the page, curve, and
then be continued into the inside pages. This creates continuity and flow within the
magazine. Whilst looking at this added element, I thought that the slogan would fit nicely in
the lower curve, and the issue number in the top curve, as to not interfere with the skyline. I
used the path tool and then the type tool to create this effect.

the pen tool,
which will be
modified to
create a path for
the text to flow
around.
1. Selecting 'Path' from
the drop-down menu
in the top-left corner
of the screen to
harness the path tool.

Whilst pressing and
holding the shift
key, I created a line
which bent around
the curve. I created
the curve by
dragging the
marked areas of the
lines, hence moving
the line into any
curve I wish.

The finished path
was large enough
for the slogan to
be placed in. By
using the move
tool, I selected
the area and
moved it closer to
the right, to allow
the text to fit
within the shape.

to an 'I' with a
