- 2. Transition – Year6 •Transition subjects – DT, French, German, Spanish, Science, ICT and Art. •Music, Drama and Games/PE taught by specialists. •As with all HMC Schools pupils are tested upon entry to the Senior School. •The tests take place in January 2017. All Year 6 students will sit our 11+ Examinations. •There are three papers – Maths, English and Non-verbal Reasoning.

Why do thestudents take the 11+ Examinations? •Testing Core Subjects. •To provide a common baseline data for all students. •To provide independent information on the student’s ability to cope with the academic curriculum in the Senior School. •To enable the Maths department to set, broadly, according to ability at the start of Year 7. Internal examinations take place in November and June of Year 7, after which there is a comprehensive review of setting.

Academic Scholarships • Thetwo top students will win Academic Scholarships based on the test results. • This is calculated using the aggregate scores (all papers are weighted equally). • Each scholarship will last from Years 7-11 and will be worth a 20% reduction in the school fee each year. • There are also Scholarships in Art, Music and Sport.

What does aday look like? • Breakfast • Morning prayer and group session/ briefing • Into groups for activity 1 • Lunch • Briefing and session 2 • Some free time! • Evening meal • Evening activity/ Mass • Night prayer and reflection • Bed (Time to shower either in morning or night) Additional information • NO ELECTRICALS- no mobiles or any devices that can take photographs or connect to the internet. We take an emergency mobile and provide the number. • Pocket money- £5 in coins • Snacks • Water bottle if needed • We take photographs and upload them to the VLE

- 19. Staff • Ratcliffe College:Mrs Gilchrist, Miss Llewelyn, Miss Stanley and Mr Willcock • PGL staff: Group leader and individual activity trained instructors. DBS checked. • Safety is paramount- all equipment and regulations are to standards and procedures are followed. Accommodation • All in a designated building together and not with another school. • Smaller rooms with up to 6 approximately. Room inspections. Keep belongings safe/ named! Sleeping bags are needed. • En-suite bathrooms. • Staff are on each floor. Boys and girls are on separate floors. • Located close to activities and food.

- 21. Medical • Staff arefirst aid trained • Please complete the medical forms with all of your child’s information • On the day- clear we go, place medication in a plastic bag/ tub. (Named and with instructions on it. Hand to our staff) Payment and details • Envelope with a checklist- cheque required for Alton Castle(full payment and the deposit for PGL) Two further instalments for PGL are added to your school bill). • Details and forms are inside the envelope • Kit lists • Medical information • Cheque for first deposit/ additional costs on to school bill. • Hoodie order form- no nicknames allowed.
