5. Open Morning + Fun Run
Reminder
▶ Open Morning - Saturday 22nd September.
▶ School will finish at 1.10pm on Friday 21st September.
▶ ALL secondary students are expected to attend the open morning
as all students will enjoy an additional occasional holiday in
November.
▶ If a child can not attend for a genuine reason, they must see their
HOY and then volunteer to stay after school on Friday 21
September until 4pm or come into school on Monday 24 September
at 8.30am to help tidy away.
▶ Years 7-13 – school starts again on Monday 24th September at 9.45
▶ We will be holding our annual Fun Run on Monday 24th September.

23. Timings
▶ Coaches arrive 9:00 am leave at 9:45am,
so students need to be in school by 8:40
(no later)
▶ Must have packed lunch to eat on arrival
▶ Coaches arrive at Bawdsey 12:00/1:00pm
return at 3:30/4:00pm on Friday
▶ Students will be free to go home on their
return.
24. SBAS purpose of the trip
▶ To develop students’ resilience and promote our values E.G Trust,
compassion, wisdom.
▶ To broaden their circle of friends, meeting new people from other
forms and get to know different staff members
▶ To give them a positive experience of challenging physical
activities, requiring communal support in a natural environment
▶ To have fun with peers whilst building on our ethos of the Simon
Balle community
▶ To build a strong sense of natural support and loyalty
▶ To build on teamwork skills and overcome fears
▶ To become independent learners who can encourage and lead
others to success
▶ To strengthen the link between the relationship with themself,
their relationship with others and the relationship with the
curriculum. Students do come back more resilient and confident.
25. Bawdsey Manor SBAS
▶ No food (other than separate packed lunch)
▶ No electricals
▶ No phones
▶ No news is good news
▶ Staff to student ratio is 1:10, plus the PGL staff
26. Kit list
● Packed lunch for the Tuesday in a rucksack, taken on the coach (but not to be eaten until we arrive)
● Sleeping bag/travel pillow (essential)
● Large rucksack/holdall/bag/case containing all kit list items except sleeping bag
● Several sets of clothing to include:
● Tracksuit/hard-wearing trousers/shorts (jeans not recommended)
● Base layers/vests
● T-shirts
● Warm fleece/jumpers
● Socks/underwear/thermals/pjs
● Waterproof jacket (essential)/Waterproof trousers
● Warm clothes
● Sturdy shoes
● Trainers
● Named water bottle
● Sun cream
● Sun hat or warm hat/gloves depending on weather
● Toiletries including toothpaste, toothbrush, roll-on deodorant (not aerosol). All preferably in a named
wash-bag.

● Plastic bag for dirty clothes (black-bin liner)
27. Medication
Any medication needs to be clearly labelled
with instructions. The student will need to bring
this with them on the day in a separate bag.
This will be given to their group leader, and
they will have all medication with them at all
times.
