Pardon the Cell
Phone
Phone Etiquette
 Today I will discuss phone etiquette
 Purpose? To persuade people to put away their phones
 Why? it is a distraction and disconnects people from face to face
interaction.
Social Networking; staying
connected
Undivided Attention
 “84 percent of people surveyed in a new TIME Mobility Poll said they
couldn’t go a single day without their mobile device in hand.” (The
Dailey News)
 On average we send 88 text messages a day (CNN Tech)
 Our phones are distracting us from day to day interactions
 Take a second to think of how many times you pick up your phone
 How many times have you ignored someone because of your
phone?
Why you?
 “67% of cell owners find themselves checking their phone for
messages, alerts, or calls — even when they don’t notice their
phone ringing or vibrating” (Pew Internet Mobile)
 If you own a cell phone, you are effected
 You want the people in front of you to feel like they are important
and matter
 Ask yourself what if you didn’t have your phone on you?
Solutions
 A little effort can go a long way
 Limit your cell phone usage
 Acknowledge the people around you
 Put your phone where you wont be tempted to touch it
 “there is a special quality about face-to-face interactions. You can
catch the subtle tone in their voice, see their expression as it
changes from sad to outraged, and you can look them in the eye
to see if you trust them” (Glaser)
Now its your turn to make a
difference
Put down your phone and live the
life that surrounds you
