WHAT IS
PARAPHRASING?
PARAPHRASING
using your own words to express someone
else’s message or idea
EXAMPLE:
• Original: “I am Lalisa. I was a great dancer. I can dance better
that anyone. My moves are good. I practiced everyday, that is
why I am a great dancer”.
• Paraphrase: Lalisa, with her amazing moves, was a great dancer.
She could dance better than anyone of them. She said that the
reason why she was a great dancer is she practiced everyday.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD
PARAPHRASE
• includes all of the author’s ideas.
• includes only the author’s ideas.
• is accurate and fair.
• is entirely in your own words.

GUIDELINES TO
PARAPHRASE:• Read the original
• Try to write the main ideas in your own words
• Look closely at unfamiliar words
• Check your paraphrase
• Include the citation for the source of the information

CONCLUSION
Therefore, paraphrasing is used by everyone especially
writers. It might be hard to paraphrase if you don’t
really understand the statement. It helps you in many
ways and it is also very important to us students in
many ways, especially students who are journalist.
