This album by Paramore released in 2013 features a black background with colored powder over the three band members on the front cover, representing a new beginning after two founding members left. majority include these on
the front of their albums.
Instead of this, the album
had a sticker on top of the
plastic case with the logo
on and the latest singles,
which will attract more
people to buy the album as
they will then know who the
band is and what songs are
on this album, which will
attract more fans.
The main image is of all three
members of the band, in front
of a black background, with
coloured powder over them.
The image being of the three
contrasts their previous
albums, as all of those had
different images on the front,
for example Brand New eyes,
which included an image of a
butterfly, and this album
suggests a new beginning, as
before this album was
recorded after two of the
founding members of the band
left. The image of the three
suggests that they are
stronger now, and that it is
time for a change, as the main
image is of them.
The coloured powder links to their music
video for the first single off this album,
Now, as in that video there is lots of
coloured powder around the band. This
is the first link to the images on the
covers to the songs on the album.

suggests that the band
were able to get through
dark times, even when it
seemed as though they
weren't, as somehow the
two blacks are contrasting
enough to be visible. the
band's name is yet again in
the same font, which yet
again highlights the house
style and synergy within the
album. The three visible
lines also link to the band's
logo of the three bars.

you will see on further
slides, the "grow up" jacket

This may also link to Andrew Goodwin's theory of the male gaze,
as it is just Hayley Williams in this image, and not the other
members of the band. As she is the front woman, this is typical,
however this still links into Andrew Goodwin's theory as many of
Paramore's fans are male, therefore highlighting the importance of
Hayley, within the male gaze.
The clothing that Hayley
is wearing within this
image is the same as
that in the front cover
image, therefore linking
the two. the colours are
similar to those of the
whole album design,
therefore yet again
highlighting the house
style within the album.

back to the inside of
the case, as the back
of Hayley’s jacket is
spray painted with the
words Grow Up. It
also contrasts the
black of the
background.
The track listing is in the
font that has become
associated with the band
since this album’s release,
and is the same font as the
band’s name on the sticker
on the front of the album.
This give the album a feel
of professionalism and
continuity as the font is the
same throughout.
The font is all in capital
letters, however each letter
is a different size,
suggesting that this font is
handwriting. The E is simply
three lines, however this is
a link back to the bars logo
that is a well known logo of
the band. There are also
only three members of the
band, so each line could
represent a member of the
band.
Another link to the music video for Now is visible
with the coloured flares at the bottom. To me it
seems that the plain back background and the
dashes of colour around the outside of the case
suggest a glimmer of light in a dark time, a new
beginning after a dark time.
In the bottom left hand
corner, there is a
barcode, yet again
visible on all albums.
This is also a legal
requirement so that
the product can be
scanned.
The bottom right hand of
the back cover includes
information about the
record label. This is a
legal requirement and so
is included on the back of
all CD cases, Dual Case
or not.

6. Continuation & logos
Since the release of the album, the font used on the sticker on the case and on the back of the
album has become more like a logo of the band. Along with the three bars (which have been the
logo since around 2011), anything that is seen using that font is considered to be associated
with the band.
As previously mentioned, the band have also got another logo, the three bars. This came about
around mid 2011, after two of the original members of the band had left. Each member has it
tattooed, and it was also the cover for their singles released before the recording of the album.
Every stage set up since the release of the album has somehow incorporated both the bars and
the font, which highlights that these tours and shows are part of the album cycle and continues
to promote the album.

image, the font has been changed to
be associated with the latest album.

7. Album incorporated into live
shows & music videos
For shows before the official release of the
album, Hayley wore the jacket used for the
album photo shoot on stage. This jacket was
not only part of the album because of the photo
shoot, but also Grow Up is the title of one of
the songs on the album.
For the US leg of the self titled tour, Hayley
wore a leather jacket, which also had the
phrase “grow up” on the back, however it was
in a slightly different font. Hayley would have
worn this jacket for the first song of the set,
which was Grow Up, yet again linking her
jacket to the album.
For the Us leg of the tour, for the final song Still
Into You, the band released balloons into the
crowd, similar colours of those that were in the
video for the song. This links the album, the
single and the live shows together as they all
relate to each other.

8. Stage set ups since releases
Since the release of the self- titled
album, all of the stage set ups for the
band’s performances has incorporated
either the bars logo or the font,
sometimes even both. This highlights
the fact that these shows are part of
the album cycle, and that the vast
majority of the songs performed will be
off the album as they are the most
recent. In cases of festivals, including
the name of the band as part of the set
up means that people who have never
heard of the band before now know
who they are, so if they like them they
will be able to look up the band at a
later date.
For 2014, the band’s stage set up was a
light wall, which showed lyrics and other
things associated with the band, whilst
the songs were playing. Behind this
were several disco balls, which were
placed so that they were in the shape of
the bars logo. For the first half of the
sets, the balls would be covered with a
white cloth, so when the balls were
revealed it was a surprise to the fans.

9. Variant copies
There are no variant copies of this album, apart from a
vinyl, which is only available from the band’s webstore.
The vinyl bundle included the album on vinyl, a cd, an
exclusive 7” vinyl including two previously unreleased B-
sides, an exclusive poster and a certificate of authenticity.
This is not the first time that the band has released
something like this, as they had done something very
similar to this for their previous album.
Along with the bundle, the vinyl was also available on its
own.
Another two exclusive bundles were available when the
album was released, which included everything featured in
the main bundle, however both also included a photo
book, of photos which were taken by the band during the
process of recording this album. One of these bundles was
also available with a hoodie, featuring lyrics of one of the
songs off the album, however this could be purchased on
its own from the webstore as well.
