This document analyzes and compares the packaging of CDs from The Blossoms, Liam Gallagher, and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. It discusses the album art, booklet design, photos, and possible meanings and intentions behind the stylistic choices. Key points include: The Blossoms CD has a basic cardboard cover and bright colors, while Liam Gallagher's is plain black and white to draw attention to the music. Noel Gallagher went with a cardboard case instead of plastic. 1. CD Packs
In this presentation I will analyze different CD
packs and CD’s from some of my favorite band’s
and artists and answer the questions of why they
choose to present them differently.

2. The Blossoms
• The album cover itself is made from cardboard and is a fold out
set up.
• It is very basic on all three parts of the content and this may be
due to fame. Because the band aren’t very well known they may
adopt the simple effect or however it could be relating to the
persona they are trying to sell to the audience or following.
• Also the use of a bright color on the CD makes it eye catching
and different once again showing the personality of the band
that they may be different.
On the front cover of the album the band can be seen in a dark setting
with lights focusing around them, the band look relaxed showing
they’re music might be calm and more towards the indie genre.
The lead singer of the band is stereotypically stood in the middle with
the rest surrounding him. The fact that they are surrounded by a rural
background suggests they’re keeping their simple lives involved with
the band work but not too much that it all becomes one.

3. The Blossoms –
Inside Booklet
The inside booklet for this album is 6 pages and for many of them pages
the lyrics to each of the 12 songs are featured. The band may do this to
allow people to connect with their music more. For example when you
hear a song its not often that you get every single word and understand
the songs meaning first time, so by putting the lyrics in people can read
through them and properly connect with the true message of the song.
For example one of the Blossoms most well known songs is ‘Charlemagne’
and the lyrics start “hello, hello who put love in my head” which by asking
a few people makes them think of him falling in love, when in actual fact
the song focuses around a ancient king who was called ‘Charlemagne’ and
its used as a metaphor by the lead singer of the band.

The booklet finishes with what looks
like film strips and they add a retro
effect to the whole booklet the fact
that there are many pictures of each
member of the band could once again
link to fame and the fact that it may
make people remember them for
being different.

4. Liam Gallagher – As You Were
• Liam Gallagher is known as a the cocky, big
headed lead singer of the famous band
Oasis and this is hugely portrayed in the
cover for his most recent album. It focuses
on a close up of just Liam's face with little
expression and the black and white effect
compliments the shadows of the lighting
to make him look discreet almost like he is
hiding something.
On the CD we can see that
it is also consisting with
the black and white theme
keeping it plain which is
very effective as it infers
that his music will be calm
and may relate to the
indie genre. We can also
see that the list of songs is
printed on the CD and this
helps the songs to be
remembered.
The title of the album is printed in capitals and in a
much thinner font to the artists name, this may be to
make the artist stand out and people to remember his
name. Also he references his album in numerous
tweets as another form of advertisements.

5. –
Choice of
Layout
An interesting note inside Liam’s
booklet is the fact that they
reference a song title from the
Beatles. ‘I Get By’ are lyrics well
known in one of the Beatles
songs “with a little help from my
friends” and ‘Abbey Road’ is the
famous image and album the
Beatles are so commonly
recognised for.
Inside the Booklet there are
many images in black and
white which is a form of
keeping the layout simple
which may be a way of Liam
wanting people to focus on
his lyrics. The photos to the
right are of Liam in a outside
area with a black hood up
which may be him linking
with his ‘bad lad’ image that
he has adopted from a young
age.
We then see images of him in a recording studio
showing that he may be hugely involved in the
production of his songs and it also shows how
passionate he is about his music.

6. Noel Gallagher's High Flying
Birds –
Who Built The Moon
On the back of the album we can see the list of songs along with the title of the album.There
is a consistency of lettering as it is on the front, all the songs are written in black capitals and
the last two tracks are called “the man who built the moon” and “end credits” which could be
a way of noel answering the question he presents at the beginning of the album and the fact
that it finishes with “end credits” suggests that not only is noel signing off his album but he is
also ending the question.
Noel’s most recent album went straight to No.1 in the UK
with a first weeks sale of 78,000 just a bit shy of his brother
Liam’s 1st weeks sales which reached 102,660.
From the picture we can see that Noel decided to not go for
the standard plasticCD case and instead he chose to go for
the less common cardboard case.This may be to allow
people to focus more on the music and the production of the
album was focused more on the music rather than the album
itself. However, taking this into consideration there has been
a interesting choice of photo to present the album, we can
see
A figure of a woman stood in a open space, she has her
hands on her forehead.This may infer a link to the title of
the album, the open space could be representing the moon
and the emptiness and then the woman is showing the
stress of such a profound question.

7. Noel Gallagher - Inside Booklet
Each song title has a photo above the name whether these
photos relate to the songs or not it is hard to tell but the
interesting thing is that unlike the other two albums, this one
doesn’t contain the song lyrics. This could infer that either he
would prefer people to listen to the actual music and interpret
it in their own way and not that of his own.

8. Noel Gallagher - Possible Relations
Holy Mountain Keep on Reaching
The fact that the photo’s are quite mysterious in their meaning completely contrasts these two below.
The photo to the left is related to a song called ‘Holy Mountain’ and in the image we can see a dark
setting with white mountains and a glowing semi-circle. This abstract image relates to the title of the
song as the religious imagery of ‘Holy’ and the glowing mountains compliment the title.
In the second image we see a sunset with two dark figures in the left hand corner and they seem to be
pointing or reaching for something from the right we can see a flock of birds flying in a upward staggered
motion, this links to the title as it states ‘Keep on reaching’ and the birds are resembling the climb that
life is.
