Time And Space In Death Of A Salesman And The Glass Menagerie
Time and space is an intriguing concept. Arthur Miller s (1949) Death of a Salesman and Tennessee Williams (1945) The
Glass Menagerie both implement these concepts in different ways. Death of a Salesman is told through the perspective of a
man who is imagining his memories, while at the same time, living his everyday life. The Glass Menagerie, similarly, is told
through the memories of the narrator, Tom Wingfield, but not while he is living his present life. The characters in both
stories reminisce of their past regrets. However, the intent of the author s use of time and space to reach the reader is
different in these stories.
Arthur Miller (1949) demonstrates that Willy Loman is trapped in his feelings of guilt for what he did in his past, and how
his decisions led up to his present in Death of a Salesman. Willy regrets his infidelity while both his career and children
leave him trapped in the past. He relives his memories of his brother Ben when he is complaining of his job, often idealizing
Ben. Why didn t I go to Alaska with my brother Ben that time! Ben! That man was a genius, that man was success incarnate
(p. 27). Willy also begins to think of the woman he adulterated with when he is appreciating his wife, because he knows that
he does not deserve her. You re the best there is, Linda, you re a pal, you know that? [...] The Woman has come from behind
the scrim and is standing, putting on her hat, looking into a »mirror« and laughing (p. 25).

There is one thing you should always keep in mind about marketing and what motivates people to buy. Pain Sells. People

Random Acts Of Kindness Research Paper
Random Acts of Kindness for this Holiday Season Many children are taught that Christmas is when you receive gifts from
others, but what they don t find much joy in doing is giving, instead. Whether it costs money or not, it does not matter, it s
the thought that counts. Imagine comparing the joy a homeless person would have compared to a child while receiving
clothes, the child would probably frown since they were most likely expecting a toy and the homeless person would be
overjoyed since they barely have anything. We have to give thanks for what we have, so we may help to serve those of us
who have nearly nothing. To help out those in need, or maybe not even those in need, we may do a variety of things, a few
examples I thought of could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the options on my list involve using money, however there are definitely random acts of kindness that you may do
without using any money. If you can t afford to give/use money to/for others in need, you may simply give someone a
compliment, rake a friend/neighbour s leaves, help someone with their groceries, or even just a simple smile. This Holiday
season, I hope to be able to find the time to read a book to a young child at my school. Reading books of their choice would
obviously benefit them, since they re having a good relaxing time while listening to someone read a book to them, and it
would be free of charge. The children I read to would benefit from this act of kindness, as explained previously, but reading
aloud would also be beneficial for me as a student. It would be beneficial for me as well since I would be able to practice my
ability of speaking out loud to a small audience, this would help me to improve my public speaking skills as well as how I
act around young children (this is necessary since I want to be a pediatrician in the future). In conclusion, giving is so
important, not always to benefit you in some way or another, but to help out others who may not

Acute Graft Rejection
There are 3 types of graft rejection which are hyperacute, acute and chronic graft rejections. Hyperacute graft rejection is a
rare type occurs while the patient is still in the operating room. The acute graft rejection on its part attacks donor cells of
CD4+ and CD8+ T cells recipients. Occurs within days to occur and can be either be direct or indirect allorecognition and it
is treated with immunosuppressive drugs. The final type; chronic rejection also happens to be the most common cause for
graft dysfunction and is based on vascular insufficiency and graft fibrosis. It can occur within months to years. Chronic graft
rejection is caused by both antibodies and lymphocyte. In antibody induced chronic graft rejection, the rejection is through
complement fixation which causes coagulation and tissue injury. Complement activation also use macrophages and

Hideyoshi Contribution
ideyoshi
Hideyoshi was an influential Japanese influential feudal ruler, daimyo, throughout the 16th century. Hideyoshi was known to
be a daimyō, warrior, general, samurai, and politician of the Sengoku period, and was especially known to have started a
new age of in Japanese culture. Hideyoshi was a highlight of the Japanese feudal era which made choosing an influential
person a worthwhile task. I have personal history with the level of influence his prestige has over history. His name was
once referenced in a conversation between my second generation Japanese American friend. I was interested in what she told
me about the history of her family back in Japan. I will be using this paper as a conduit to help start my understanding a
small portion of Japan history through researching the famous Hideyoshi and his celebrated achievements
Hideyoshi was believed to born in 1536 in a time of competing daimyo, Japanese samurai lords, challenging for local and
national leadership. Hideyoshi s early life was a natural rags to riches story. Starting from humble beginnings, Hideyoshi
was born into a life of peasantry under the supervision of his father, Yaemon. His early life is obscure and few stories were
told about his childhood that reflect his future legacy. A story goes that Hideyoshi s mother saw rays of sunlight fill the room
during the this great leader s birth. Another story says that as a child he was able to get the village children together and

Interior Design Social And Psychological Theories
Interior Design social and psychological theories were developed to aid the designers in better understanding people s needs
when it comes to a space. Even in ancient times, requirements had to be met to make living conditions bearable. High
ceilings, clerestory windows that allowed natural sun light in, tripartite floor plan arrangement and more were some of the
norms of design that helped people psychologically and socially adapt to their current conditions.
How do people feel when they are at a certain setting? What triggers discomfort, irritation or distress? What causes good
mood, appetite or comfort? This is what Psychological Social theories explore, the space people relationship and the space
mind relationship. Psychological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bad lighting or no natural lighting, wrong color palette, how crowded the space may feel, lack of privacy much more, are
some things that if not taken into consideration could make the stay in a space unbearable. The final goal is for the occupier
of the space to feel comfortable and at ease whether in a public or a private setting. Although there are many settings that
must accomplished the explained above in this chapter, however, we will be focusing on the Psychological and Social
theories in restaurant design for it is one of the most common examples that includes all the aspects explained in this
chapter.
Today, high levels of people populate public settings causing many requirements and demands to arise. One of them is the
need for privacy in the often crowded public areas. When designing a restaurant layout, it is important to consider how much
privacy will the visitors have. One of the biggest dilemmas in restaurant design is the need for tables and seating space
which maximizes the profit of the business. However, overcrowding a space with furniture can make the diners feel enclosed
and uncomfortable for no one likes to be too close to a stranger. On the other hand, just as people don t like very crowded
spaces, they don like very big ones either for they seem cold and impersonal giving them a sense of exclusion. It is
important to find the balance between the both. Privacy is best described as a process by

Voting Essay
Voting is a right that has long been fought over; it has taken countless reforms, amendments, and societal changes to make
our country s great democracy what it is today. The time has come again to make a much needed reform in voting policies
by lowering required age. Sixteen years olds should be permitted voting status for numerous reasons including their access
to the same rights as older adults, previous success this policy has carried in other areas, and the full cognitive and reasoning
development in these older teens.
To start off, sixteen year olds are permitted nearly the same rights as older voters in every case except for voting. According

In 2013, Takoma Park a small, progressive enclave in a suburb of Washington, DC became the first city in the US to lower
its local election voting age to 16. In Takoma Park, the turnout rate for 16 and 17 year olds not only exceeded that of every
other demographic in the city s 2013 and 2015 elections, but nearly quadrupled the overall average. (Crockett) Because of
the age requirement decrease in this area, votes increased significantly. Contrary to popular assumption, younger teens value
being represented. Moreover, other countries have implemented this process with great success; Internationally, at least 20
countries allow citizens under the age of 18 to vote. In Brazil, Ecuador, Argentina, and Nicaragua, 16 year olds regularly
contribute to the electoral process. In Greece and Indonesia, 17 year olds can vote in national elections, and in Israel they
have the right to vote in municipal contests. Recently, 16 year olds in the Scotland election had a 75 percent turnout rate
higher than voters three times their age. (Crockett). Through this evidence, it is obvious to see that lowering the voting age
would be a step in the right direction for this country s democracy.
Certainly, some critics would contend that teens are immature and uneducated about electoral processes and do not have
sufficient skills to make critical decisions, but they are ignorant to the fact that their claim is not

The origins of American English date back to the beginnings of the seventeenth century and the first successful colonization

before, the attempts to establish a settlement failed due to unexpected conflicts with Native Americans. Jamestown, the first

First Death In Nova Scotia, Sestina, And In The Waiting Room
Childhood memories serve as significant elements within Elizabeth Bishop s poetry. Elizabeth Bishop illustrates childhood
as an innocent and cherished entity. External factors, such as death and loss, jeopardize the fragility, or naiveté, of childhood.
Bishop s poetry highlights the brevity of life through the reappearing subject of mortality and loss. The reoccurring themes
of childhood, grief, and transience are prevalent within the poems First Death in Nova Scotia, Sestina, and In the Waiting

In Sestina, Bishop describes the sorrowful tale of a grandmother and child suffering through a painful loss. Although the
grandmother attempts to remain joyful and resilient to shelter the child, the woman s tears uncover her anguish. Noticing the
grandmother s tears, the child paints a picture for her in order to make her feel happier and proud. With its storybook tone,
Sestina relays wondering and otherworldly details brought on by the child s imagination (Paul). Towards the end of the
poem, the buttons become little moons and fall down like tears and into the flower bed within the child s painting (Axelrod).
The child utilizes their creativity to initiate other fanciful images. Of course, this goes unnoticed by the grandmother as these
fairy tale occurrences transpired from the child s own mind and creativity. The inclusion of playful and innocent
representations in Sestina bolsters the theme of youth and the righteousness that accompanies it. Additionally, the setting of
the poem maintains a crucial element to relay the theme of childhood to the reader. According to Jay Paul, Bishop arranged
the poem so that it occurs during a turning point a liminal moment. Also, objects placed in the setting, such as the stove, are

The Life Of Superman Saves Seven Children
Thinking back to my admittedly privileged childhood, the most vivid memory I had wasn t of my first dance recital, or my
first lacrosse game, or even my first fist fight that I won against my seventh grade bully. It wasn t even of the day when my
father was brutally murdered in front of my sister and I when we were thirteen. No, the most evocative memory I had was
the day I purchased the newspaper for my parents at age twelve and saw, sprawled across the cover, the headline that
changed my life forever.
SUPERMAN SAVES SEVEN CHILDREN; PRAISED AS HERO ONCE MORE.
That day, I took my alarmingly large amount of allowance, went down to the novelty store across the road, and bought sixty
seven dollars worth of Superman merchandise. I came home with six comic books, three old newspapers, an action figure, a
skimpy tank top that made its way to college with me before being puked all over, and a notepad that would later fuel my
journalistic obsession to become as great as Lois Lane, Superman s girl of choice.
A month after acquiring that first newspaper for my parents, my father left the world with a bullet hole placed cleanly in the
center of both eyes.
Soon after my Superman obsession began to dwindle in my first year of college, the masked hero Batman faced off with his
archenemy and made headlines in Gotham, where I attended school. So I traded in my Superman shorts for a Batman shirt
and went searching for him on the streets at night, desperate.
Late in my third year of

A Dream Of Passion By Euripides Medea And Apollonius s...
The character Medea is a well known character throughout Greek culture due to Euripides s Medea and Apollonius s
Argonautika. Jules Dassin s A Dream of Passion presents the story of Medea in a modern way, allowing myth and reality to
intertwine. Because the film is based on the myth, the two main characters in the film, Maya and Brenda, share many
qualities to Medea, such as killing of their children. Common themes, such as the position of women in society, are also
presented in both mediums. These similarities show that Euripides and Dassin are conveying the same ideas using different
methods.
As stated in the paragraph above, Maya has a lot in common with Medea. However, we do not see that until later in the
movie. She originally starts off as a character who is very unlike Medea. She does not understand the passion of Medea.
Kostas, the director, asks her to repeat Okay. My director, my love. When she does, her love does not come across and this
frustrates him. According to Kostas, No love is no passion and no passion is no Medea. At this point, we already see the
differences between Maya and Medea. Early in the film, Maya claimed that she would rather go to battle than to give birth to
a child. It is evident she wants to focus on acting, hoping to revive her career. She seems to care only about her image; she
demands the costume designer to pick out costumes that make her look younger. Furthermore, when suggested that she visit

Abstract
The point of this investigation was to determine if there is a relationship between the two subtypes of psychopathy and
cognitive empathy. A correlation design was employed, in which Levenson, Kiehl and Fitzpatrick s (1994) Levenson Self
Report Psychopathy Scale and Baron Cohel, et al s (2002) Reading the Mind in the Eyes tests were given to 452 Victoria
University Psychology students. Calculations were made, and resulted in the results to being a significant, negative
correlation between primary psychopathy and cognitive empathy, but no significant correlation between secondary
psychopathy and cognitive empathy. This concludes that not all psychopathy is correlated with cognitive empathy, but there
is a relationship.
Is There a Correlation Between Primary Psychopathy, Secondary Psychopathy and Cognitive Empathy?
Many studies have been conducted to determine if there is a correlation between Cognitive Empathy and the two subtypes of
Psychopathy (e.g. Ali Chamorro Premuzic, 2010; Levenson, Kiehl, Fitzpatrick, 1994; Baron Cohen, et al., 2002). Cognitive
empathy is defined as the capability to understand the emotions of another (Ali Chamorro Premuzic, 2010). Psychopathy is

William Byrne. In 1850, Byrne settled near the Scott County line at the present day junction of County Road 34 and Judicial
Road. There he donated land for a church, school, and cemetery as well as serving as Town Chairman. In 1858, the Dakota
County Board authorized Byrnsville Township. The township bordered the Minnesota River to ... Show more content on

Analysis Of Epiphenomenal Qualia By Frank Jackson
In the paper Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson presents the concept of Qualia and the knowledge argument in order to
prove physicalism false. Jackson s knowledge argument introduces a thought experiment about a neuroscientist called Mary.
His thought experiment is designed to refute physicalism by showing that there is non physical knowledge in the world.
However, there are many flaws in Jackson s thought experiment that lead to its ultimate failure in proving that physicalism is
wrong, such as its appeal to a misleading intuition, the ambiguity of its premises, and the assumption that it is possible to
gain all physical knowledge of color from a colorless room. Jackson explains that the goal of his paper is to refute
physicalism by using an argument rather than relying merely on intuitions. He makes a declaration that he is what people
call a qualia freak. He describes qualia as the raw feel or quality of experiences that we have. There is something that the
hurtfulness of pains, the itchiness of itches, pangs of jealousy... tasting a lemon, smelling a rose, hearing a loud noise or
seeing the sky feels like (127). There s a natural feeling or a sensation that all these conscious experiences bring for the
person experiencing them. Jackson claims that qualia cannot be explained by any kind of physical information, since our
knowledge of the structure of the brain, its physical states, and the function of those states is not enough to tell us what the
smell

Unity, Constancy, and Persistence
The Montgomery bus boycott can be regarded as one of the most successful and significant boycotts in our nation s history.
For many years, African Americans sought to legally integrate everyday amenities such as movie theaters, restaurants, and
public bathrooms. Most movements before the Montgomery boycotts were smaller in scale and didn t get as much attention
as hoped. On the other hand people were seemingly more willing to get involved this time. The massive involvement
amongst African Americans and the courageous acts of many link the success of the Montgomery boycotts to three words,

Analysis Of Bieiris De Romans And Na Maria

Title: Bieiris de Romans and Na Maria: Who was the lover, and who was the muse?
Thesis: Although many scholars of troubadour works argue that Bieiris de Roman s Na Maria is written as a profession of
love from one woman to another, closer examination confirms this affection to be platonic friendship in the language of the
period, possibly with sociopolitical motives.

A plane crash, a shark attack, a shipwreck, or even cancer, are all types of life threatening events. Majority of the population
would agree that people who can overcome experiencing one of these or a similar event is classified as a survivor. In this
case, a survivor would mean somebody who has experienced a near death situation and overcame it. However, not everyone
has faced one of these and yet is still a survivor. A survivor is simply anyone who successfully copes with a hardship better

Antigone Foil To Creon
Antigone versus Creon
In the play Antigone, the character Antigone serves as a foil character for Creon in an attempt to show Creon the wrong in
his judgement. The play is based around the belief of right by burial which Creon so happens to be denying a certain man of
that right, Polynices, one of Antigone s brothers. Antigone serves a foil for Creon through most of her actions throughout the
play. She buries her brother not once but twice, she argues with Creon over the right by burial belief, and Creon has a chain
reaction of loss that was caused by Antigone s death.
At the start of the play Antigone is suffering from the loss of her two brothers Eteocles and Polynices who fought and killed

Creon just feels anger towards his son but, is unexpecting of what is to come of Antigone s death. Afterwards he had a

The History of Dan Gable
If you are, or ever were, a wrestler, could you imagine having a record of 181 1? Dan Gable did not have to imagine it,
because that was his record. Throughout his high school, college and Olympic career, he only lost one match. Nate Kaeding
expressed it perfectly when he said, He has truly earned his place as the godfather of Iowa sports (Wrestling Life). Dan
Gable is the best, pure wrestling role model because of the amount of hard work and dedication he put into the sport and his
drive to always be better. This is illustrated in his record as a high school and college wrestler, a coach, and in the Olympics
as a wrestler and coach.

The Chrysalids is a Dark Book by John Wyndham
The Chrysalids by John Wyndham is a dark book where the plot, characters and setting are all influenced by death. The
word Chrysalid is a scientific term which refers to the larva that most insects pass through before becoming adults. John
Wyndham metaphorically compares this definition to the story by comparing this process to humans. He is saying that the
state humans were in before Tribulation was a baby state and now they are maturing into adults. It does not come at an easy
price; sacrifice and death affect the process of change. The influence of prejudice and bigotry throughout The Chrysalids
leads to death in the lives of Sophie Wender, Aunt Harriet and Joseph Strorm. Firstly, resulting from prejudice and bigotry
Sophie is killed tragically. Since Sophie was born with a mutation (a sixth toe) the community of Waknuk s views towards
Sophie s extra toe force Sophie and her family to flee to the Fringes. The Fringes is a dry wasteland where all deviations
(mutations) are sent to die upon their discovery. After Sophie and her family fled; the inspector a man who monitors
mutations speaks to David about Sophie s toe, telling David the seriousness of the situation. Not reporting a human deviation
is a very, very serious thing. People go to prison for it. (51). Being pushed to the Fringes because of prejudice and bigotry
brings Sophie one step closer to her own demise. Consequently, her new life is filled with darkness, starvation and loneliness
in which death slowly

Remember The Titans Segregation
Remember The Titans is a great football movie, and an even better civil rights movie. The movie shows how TC Williams
handled desegregation and how the football team brought the community together. When the white players and black players
came together for the first time, they did not get along. Coach Herman Boone took the team to a camp, and the players
started to get along. When the players went back to school, they experienced the racism all over again. Eventually, the team
helped the school and community get over the desegregation. The movie takes place in 1971, and TC Williams High School
was one of the first high schools in the area to desegregate. The type of segregation that the school had was de facto, which
means that blacks and whites could go to school together. However, there were still segregated schools because the kids in a

The Great Awakening occured in the spring and summer of 1735 associated with a revivalist preacher and Congregationalist

Technology affects unemployment, economic growth, and organisational structure of jobs. Through innovation in
technology, new jobs are created while old jobs are made redundant. There is also an overall skill upgrading effect while
some tasks are deskilled.
Current stage of technological development gives the opportunity of nonstandard work to the business world. Examples
include freelance, telecommuting, workshifting, home working and the idea of blended workforce, when standard and
nonstandard employes work side by side. Nonstandard jobs are more common for high skilled, high paid workers; it allows
more fredom and flexibility. Some disadvantages of homeworking and teleworking involve absense of team spirit and lack
of face to face social interactions and sharing ideas. In addition management connot easily monitor, control the activity and
make sure that employees are working towards the same goal.
Recently, applying blogs for knowledge sharing and problems solving across the organisation has dramatically changed the
nature of work. Managers use technological methods to encourage informal coordination and make the workplase more

Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial?
Volcanoes are wondrous formations on the earth. Humans are fascinated by them but are often very cautious about
volcanoes. They see them as explosive, lava spewing mountains often causing natural disasters. These are just some of the
effects of a volcano but plus side to it is that its energy can be harnessed. Energy that can be used from a volcano is
Geothermal Energy. It is a clean, renewable energy which uses the steam produced from vents and hot springs near
volcanoes. In this paper I am going to prove why Geothermal Energy is good for the environment and the society. Firstly I
am going to discuss what geothermal energy is. Secondly, I will discuss the benefits of geothermal energy to the
environment. Thirdly I am going to show how geothermal energy is beneficial to the society around its source. Lastly I will
compare geothermal energy to other energy sources and show why geothermal energy is the way to go.
What is Geothermal Energy?
The earth stores thermal energy within itself, this energy is then projected to the surface of the earth. This is then released
through vents that are close to volcanic systems or other tectonically active areas. These could be steam vents, mud pots and
hot springs. The temperatures used to reach up to 100 degrees centigrade. This is the most conventional

A Short Note On Anti Aging Skin Care
Anti aging skin care
The moment we are born we start to age throughout our lives, the effects of aging are getting more noticeable in our bodies.
At age 20 you start to see the effects of aging to be noticeable in the skin. One of things that affects the skin is called,
Chronological age , it causes a chemical change in collagen and elasticity. The connective tissues give the skin its firmness
and elasticity. The loss of firmness and elasticity occurs at different times. Everybody s skin is different, some age different
than others. When people start to loose elasticity in the skin, it starts to get drier, fat padding starts to disappear, when you
start to lose fat padding and connective tissue the skin starts to sag. It looks less limber and wrinkles start to form. The skin
may be itchy with increased dryness, and a cut may heal more slowly. With aging the process of photo aging may take place.
Photo aging is the effect of chronic and extreme sun exposure on the skin. Cigarette smoking also provide aging effect of
biochemical changes, it brings about in skin tissue. Photo ageing and chronological aging combined may appear to advance
the progress of chronological ageing. In fact photo ageing may be accountable for the preponderance of age associated
change in the skin s manifestation: mottled pigmentation, surface roughness, fine wrinkles that disappear when stretched,
age or liver spots (lentiginous) on the hands, and dilated blood vessels. Chronic sun exposure is very

All IT professionals should meet the criteria of the British Computer Society Code of Conduct. The BCS Code of Conduct

Authority and Duty to the Profession. The BCS Code of Conduct seems to be based on Deontological Ethics as it states that
it is an employee s duty to fulfil these guidelines. Firstly, an interest in the effect on the public is vital to the maintenance of
ethics throughout a company. In a sense, a company cannot function properly without the support of the public. Whereas,
Professional Competence and Integrity indicates that an employee should try to gain as much knowledge as possible to
influence growth and improvement. This also indicates that those seeking improvement within a company should encourage
other employees to do the same. The BCS section, Duty to Relevant Authority states that an employee

Medicine men or priests represented healers due to the fact that they were believed to have special relationships to the
supernatural realm. Exorcisms, spells, and divination were common practices to cure those infected by disease, or evil spirits
. Modern vocabulary still reflects these beliefs through phrases such as being attacked by an illness, or to fight off infections.
The beliefs of the supernatural controlling the health of individuals was unanimous all throughout the ancient world and
confirmed by medical writings from Egypt, China, India, and Mesopotamia.
The history behind the evolution of the germ theory of disease can be traced back to speculations in 300 BC. Hippocrates of
Cos, Greek physician known as the father of western medicine, attributed disease to vapors that arose from decomposing
material or swampland. Hippocrates believed infectious diseases formed through atmospheric miasmatic theory of disease,
which was that diseases were caused by miasma, which was a noxious form of bad air . Hippocrates s theory was influential
up until the late nineteenth century; the time when the relationship between disease and microbes was confirmed.

many collective groups feeling isolated or mistreated. Nationalism first emerged in the 18th century, during the early days of
the French Revolution. Prior to this, France was under the reign of an absolute monarch known as King Louis XVI. The
king had no respect for his subjects, and believed that he alone constructed France s identity. However, civilians disagreed;
fed up with the feudal system which only benefited the noble class and the clergy, the middle class whispered ideas of
change. These progressive ideas were not welcomed in medieval times, as plotting against your monarch was viewed as
treason. Nationalism only seemed to encourage this thought process, as soon Louis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While Canadian residents may be racially and culturally diverse, we pride ourselves on acceptance and understanding of
multiculturalism. This is a concept promoted throughout Canada, as we believe co existing with different cultures is
fundamental in a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected due to globalization. In Canada, you have the power to
construct your own identity, not nationalism. The negative aspect of a concept such as nationalism is that it only represents
the prevalent traits that emerge within a given population, ignoring many minority groups and often leading to
discrimination. That is why we believe that you define who you are, not the

Stock Split Advantages And Disadvantages
STOCK SPLIT:
A stock split is a process in which the number of already issued shares increases without increasing the market capitalization
of the company. In other words, Stock split is nothing but the division of already issued shares of a firm into a larger number
of shares. Stock split increases the number of outstanding shares while at the same time decreasing face value share price
proportionally. i.e, when a company split its stock 2 for 1, then the number of shares will get double face value, the share
price will become half. The goal of the stock split is to make the stock accessible to as many investors as possible. A share
split will result in all shareholders holding more shares in the company. But, their stake in the share ... Show more content on

Hence, companies split stocks to come over this problem. Stock splits are mainly carried out with the intention that it should
be affordable to small investors which will eventually enhance the liquidity of the stock. Hence, the main motive is to
enhance the liquidity of the stock.
If a company wants to reduce its market price to half, it will issue 2 for 1 stock split which means the company will issue
additional 1 share per 1 share currently issued thereby doubling the total number of shares. There might be a 3 for 2 stock
split, for example, which means that 3 shares are to be issued for each 2 shares of currently issues shares.
A stock split is usually applied by companies that have seen their share price increase to levels that are either too high or are
beyond the price levels of peer companies. For e.g, ICICI BANK, shares of ICICI bank used to trade at 1700 in 2014 it s
peers like HDFC BANK, KOTAK MAHINDRA etc. used to trade at half of its price at that time then ICICI came up with a

Trauma Teams And The Trauma Team
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary trauma is an injury (as a wound) to living tissue caused by an extrinsic agent.
The intrinsic agent could be a fall, assault, or a car accident that creates the trauma. Trauma is the leading cause of death in
the 1 44 year old age group. Trauma teams were set in place to help reduce the number of deaths caused by trauma by
having different multidisciplinary working together. This correlates to the build cohesive teams through mutual trust
principle of mission command.
Trauma teams apply mission command continually as they deal with the traumas coming in. The acuity of the traumas
coming in determines if the trauma team will be activated. According to the North Central Texas Regional Advisory council,
the most common traumas that require automatic trauma team response include: multisystem blunt trauma with unstable
vital signs, penetrating injury of head, neck, chest abdomen, burns greater than 20% or involving face, airway, hands, feet, or
genitalia, amputations, paralysis or other signs of spinal cord injury, flail chest, open or suspected depressed skull fracture,
unstable pelvis or open pelvic fracture, two or more longbone fractures, and high energy events such as fall greater than 20ft,
ejection from vehicle, death of occupant in same vehicle, bent steering wheel, auto pedestrian impact, motorcycle or bicycle
involvement and significant assault.
All this different traumas involve different systems of the body. This is

Essay on Annie Liebovitz s Women
Annie Liebovitz s Women
After reading a book on various feminist philosophies, I evaluated Annie Liebovitz s book and collection of photographs
entitled Women according to my interpretation of feminist philosophy, then used this aesthetic impression to evaluate the
efficacy of feminist theories as they apply toward evaluating and understanding art.
A photograph is not an opinion. Or is it? So begins Susan Sontag s introductory essay to the book Women, a collection of
photographs by Annie Leibovitz. Collected without a stated intention other than to treat on the subject matter at hand,
Leibovitz s images confront a wide spectrum of issues surrounding women living in America at the end of the twentieth
century. Sontag explains, Any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of particular concern are the women who are celebrated and glamorized as successful and well educated artists, actresses,
and celebrities. We are so familiar with slick, glossy photographs of women such as Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore,
rapper Lil Kim, or young actress Christina Ricci, that at first glance these portraits are far more celebratory, depicting the
women in thoughtful, atmospheric lighting, perfect makeup and hair, beautiful clothing, and carefully framed shots. It is
very clear these are not tabloid photos, but instead artistic portraits, to be viewed as such. The complication arises when we
consider what statement Leibovitz is making about the real nature of their careers, however, as seen in a careful evaluation
of the postures and presentations of these powerful and successful women.
Drew Barrymore is wearing a gauzy flesh colored dress, splayed out on a patch of ultra green filtered grass. Her face is
turned away from us, almost unrecognizable, looking downward and over her shoulder, her arms listlessly at her side and
touching her shoulder. She is flat on the ground with her knees raised and spread slightly apart, shot from above, with a
corpse like pallor and demeanor. Were she not identified in the caption by name, a viewer would be hard pressed to
determine the identity of this accessible and apparently disposable body. Perhaps this is the

How to Construct Research Question
IB Extended Essay Forming a Research Question
Choice of topic
The topic chosen must focus on the human past, be worthy of study, and lend itself to systematic investigation in line with
the published assessment criteria. Essays that focus on events of the last 10 years are not acceptable, as these are regarded as
current affairs, not history.
It is not a requirement for the topic to be chosen from the Diploma Programme history course, but it must be acceptable to
the supervisor. It should provide an opportunity for critical analysis of source material, and not depend on summarizing
general secondary sources (such as textbooks and encyclopedias), as this approach is likely to lead to an essay that is
essentially narrative or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Well, Robert says, I m sure it s crossed your minds why I m here in Bramble of all places. I m here because Atlas, aka Bruno

Don Mclean s Song American Pie
America has and forever will be the ever changing land that accepts all cultures. Every decade in this country s history has
seen immense change brought forth. Change could be seen as good or bad depending on who it has affected. Changes in the
culture of music are pretty common and rapid. Change in American politics also take place on a daily basis. Changes within
the military again, can be something seen every single year. These changes have the ability to affect the pride in which
Americans are feeling at that specific time period. Don McLean s song, American Pie, reflects his opinion on the decline of
America and its loss of innocence during the 1960s. Don McLean was born in 1945 in a rather large New York town. His
childhood was pretty good as he had two parents who supported him. McLean was born with asthma which was said to
affect his school work. However, by the age of five he had developed an interest in all forms of music and would spend
hours listening to the radio and his father s records. (McLean) By the time he was a teenager, McLean knew that he wanted

He wrote the initial intro one day while in the gatehouse in NY. Not until two months later did he decide to take another look
at the words he wrote, and add to it. What followed was a long writing process of complex lyrics that made up an eight
minute song for the ages. The lyrics are clearly references to the events mentioned above. The lyrical content of American
Pie is very heavy and involves many different references to the time period. There are six verses and one ever so famous
chorus that make up the song. The first verse sets up the song bringing a nostalgic feel talking about McLean s childhood. It
even brings reference to the day McLean was handing out the newspapers featuring Buddy Holly s death. He ends the first
verse with the famous lyric The day the music died .

Arthur Miller s (1949) Death of a Salesman and Tennessee Williams (1945) The Glass Menagerie both implement these concepts in different ways. Death of a Salesman is told through the perspective of a man who is imagining his memories, while at the same time, living his everyday life. The Glass Menagerie, similarly, is told through the memories of the narrator, Tom Wingfield, but not while he is living his present life. The characters in both stories reminisce of their past regrets. However, the intent of the author s use of time and space to reach the reader is different in these stories. Arthur Miller (1949) demonstrates that Willy Loman is trapped in his feelings of guilt for what he did in his past, and how his decisions led up to his present in Death of a Salesman. Willy regrets his infidelity while both his career and children leave him trapped in the past. He relives his memories of his brother Ben when he is complaining of his job, often idealizing Ben. Why didn t I go to Alaska with my brother Ben that time! Ben! That man was a genius, that man was success incarnate (p. 27). Willy also begins to think of the woman he adulterated with when he is appreciating his wife, because he knows that he does not deserve her. You re the best there is, Linda, you re a pal, you know that? [...] The Woman has come from behind the scrim and is standing, putting on her hat, looking into a »mirror« and laughing (p. 25). Random Acts Of Kindness Research Paper Random Acts of Kindness for this Holiday Season Many children are taught that Christmas is when you receive gifts from others, but what they don t find much joy in doing is giving, instead. Whether it costs money or not, it does not matter, it s the thought that counts. Imagine comparing the joy a homeless person would have compared to a child while receiving clothes, the child would probably frown since they were most likely expecting a toy and the homeless person would be overjoyed since they barely have anything. We have to give thanks for what we have, so we may help to serve those of us who have nearly nothing. If you can t afford to give/use money to/for others in need, you may simply give someone a compliment, rake a friend/neighbour s leaves, help someone with their groceries, or even just a simple smile. This Holiday season, I hope to be able to find the time to read a book to a young child at my school. Reading books of their choice would obviously benefit them, since they re having a good relaxing time while listening to someone read a book to them, and it would be free of charge. The children I read to would benefit from this act of kindness, as explained previously, but reading aloud would also be beneficial for me as a student. It would be beneficial for me as well since I would be able to practice my ability of speaking out loud to a small audience, this would help me to improve my public speaking skills as well as how I act around young children (this is necessary since I want to be a pediatrician in the future). Today, high levels of people populate public settings causing many requirements and demands to arise. One of them is the need for privacy in the often crowded public areas. When designing a restaurant layout, it is important to consider how much privacy will the visitors have. One of the biggest dilemmas in restaurant design is the need for tables and seating space which maximizes the profit of the business. However, overcrowding a space with furniture can make the diners feel enclosed and uncomfortable for no one likes to be too close to a stranger. On the other hand, just as people don t like very crowded spaces, they don like very big ones either for they seem cold and impersonal giving them a sense of exclusion. The time has come again to make a much needed reform in voting policies by lowering required age. In 2013, Takoma Park a small, progressive enclave in a suburb of Washington, DC became the first city in the US to lower its local election voting age to 16. In Takoma Park, the turnout rate for 16 and 17 year olds not only exceeded that of every other demographic in the city s 2013 and 2015 elections, but nearly quadrupled the overall average. (Crockett) Because of the age requirement decrease in this area, votes increased significantly. Contrary to popular assumption, younger teens value being represented. Moreover, other countries have implemented this process with great success; Internationally, at least 20 countries allow citizens under the age of 18 to vote. In Brazil, Ecuador, Argentina, and Nicaragua, 16 year olds regularly contribute to the electoral process. In Greece and Indonesia, 17 year olds can vote in national elections, and in Israel they have the right to vote in municipal contests. Recently, 16 year olds in the Scotland election had a 75 percent turnout rate higher than voters three times their age. (Crockett). Through this evidence, it is obvious to see that lowering the voting age would be a step in the right direction for this country s democracy. Certainly, some critics would contend that teens are immature and uneducated about electoral processes and do not have sufficient skills to make critical decisions, but they are ignorant to the fact that their claim is not ... The Life Of Superman Saves Seven Children Thinking back to my admittedly privileged childhood, the most vivid memory I had wasn t of my first dance recital, or my first lacrosse game, or even my first fist fight that I won against my seventh grade bully. It wasn t even of the day when my father was brutally murdered in front of my sister and I when we were thirteen. No, the most evocative memory I had was the day I purchased the newspaper for my parents at age twelve and saw, sprawled across the cover, the headline that changed my life forever. SUPERMAN SAVES SEVEN CHILDREN; PRAISED AS HERO ONCE MORE. That day, I took my alarmingly large amount of allowance, went down to the novelty store across the road, and bought sixty seven dollars worth of Superman merchandise. I came home with six comic books, three old newspapers, an action figure, a skimpy tank top that made its way to college with me before being puked all over, and a notepad that would later fuel my journalistic obsession to become as great as Lois Lane, Superman s girl of choice. A month after acquiring that first newspaper for my parents, my father left the world with a bullet hole placed cleanly in the center of both eyes. Soon after my Superman obsession began to dwindle in my first year of college, the masked hero Batman faced off with his archenemy and made headlines in Gotham, where I attended school. • 17. A Dream Of Passion By Euripides Medea And Apollonius s... The character Medea is a well known character throughout Greek culture due to Euripides s Medea and Apollonius s Argonautika. Jules Dassin s A Dream of Passion presents the story of Medea in a modern way, allowing myth and reality to intertwine. Because the film is based on the myth, the two main characters in the film, Maya and Brenda, share many qualities to Medea, such as killing of their children. Common themes, such as the position of women in society, are also presented in both mediums. These similarities show that Euripides and Dassin are conveying the same ideas using different methods. As stated in the paragraph above, Maya has a lot in common with Medea. However, we do not see that until later in the movie. She originally starts off as a character who is very unlike Medea. She does not understand the passion of Medea. Kostas, the director, asks her to repeat Okay. My director, my love. When she does, her love does not come across and this frustrates him. According to Kostas, No love is no passion and no passion is no Medea. At this point, we already see the differences between Maya and Medea. Early in the film, Maya claimed that she would rather go to battle than to give birth to a child. It is evident she wants to focus on acting, hoping to revive her career. She seems to care only about her image; she demands the costume designer to pick out costumes that make her look younger. Aisha Atherton 300335111 Tutor s Name: Nick Allan Tuesday, 5.10 7pm, EA404A Abstract The point of this investigation was to determine if there is a relationship between the two subtypes of psychopathy and cognitive empathy. A correlation design was employed, in which Levenson, Kiehl and Fitzpatrick s (1994) Levenson Self Report Psychopathy Scale and Baron Cohel, et al s (2002) Reading the Mind in the Eyes tests were given to 452 Victoria University Psychology students. Calculations were made, and resulted in the results to being a significant, negative correlation between primary psychopathy and cognitive empathy, but no significant correlation between secondary psychopathy and cognitive empathy. This concludes that not all psychopathy is correlated with cognitive empathy, but there is a relationship. • 23. Analysis Of Epiphenomenal Qualia By Frank Jackson In the paper Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson presents the concept of Qualia and the knowledge argument in order to prove physicalism false. Jackson s knowledge argument introduces a thought experiment about a neuroscientist called Mary. His thought experiment is designed to refute physicalism by showing that there is non physical knowledge in the world. However, there are many flaws in Jackson s thought experiment that lead to its ultimate failure in proving that physicalism is wrong, such as its appeal to a misleading intuition, the ambiguity of its premises, and the assumption that it is possible to gain all physical knowledge of color from a colorless room. Jackson explains that the goal of his paper is to refute physicalism by using an argument rather than relying merely on intuitions. He makes a declaration that he is what people call a qualia freak. He describes qualia as the raw feel or quality of experiences that we have. There is something that the hurtfulness of pains, the itchiness of itches, pangs of jealousy... tasting a lemon, smelling a rose, hearing a loud noise or seeing the sky feels like (127). There s a natural feeling or a sensation that all these conscious experiences bring for the person experiencing them. Jackson claims that qualia cannot be explained by any kind of physical information, since our knowledge of the structure of the brain, its physical states, and the function of those states is not enough to tell us what the smell ... The word Chrysalid is a scientific term which refers to the larva that most insects pass through before becoming adults. John Wyndham metaphorically compares this definition to the story by comparing this process to humans. He is saying that the state humans were in before Tribulation was a baby state and now they are maturing into adults. It does not come at an easy price; sacrifice and death affect the process of change. The type of segregation that the school had was de facto, which means that blacks and whites could go to school together. Essay on Annie Liebovitz s Women Annie Liebovitz s Women After reading a book on various feminist philosophies, I evaluated Annie Liebovitz s book and collection of photographs entitled Women according to my interpretation of feminist philosophy, then used this aesthetic impression to evaluate the efficacy of feminist theories as they apply toward evaluating and understanding art. A photograph is not an opinion. Or is it? So begins Susan Sontag s introductory essay to the book Women, a collection of photographs by Annie Leibovitz. Collected without a stated intention other than to treat on the subject matter at hand, Leibovitz s images confront a wide spectrum of issues surrounding women living in America at the end of the twentieth century. Sontag explains, Any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of particular concern are the women who are celebrated and glamorized as successful and well educated artists, actresses, and celebrities. We are so familiar with slick, glossy photographs of women such as Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, rapper Lil Kim, or young actress Christina Ricci, that at first glance these portraits are far more celebratory, depicting the women in thoughtful, atmospheric lighting, perfect makeup and hair, beautiful clothing, and carefully framed shots. It is very clear these are not tabloid photos, but instead artistic portraits, to be viewed as such. The complication arises when we consider what statement Leibovitz is making about the real nature of their careers, however, as seen in a careful evaluation of the postures and presentations of these powerful and successful women. Drew Barrymore is wearing a gauzy flesh colored dress, splayed out on a patch of ultra green filtered grass. Her face is turned away from us, almost unrecognizable, looking downward and over her shoulder, her arms listlessly at her side and touching her shoulder. She is flat on the ground with her knees raised and spread slightly apart, shot from above, with a corpse like pallor and demeanor. Were she not identified in the caption by name, a viewer would be hard pressed to determine the identity of this accessible and apparently disposable body. Perhaps this is the ... How to Construct Research Question IB Extended Essay Forming a Research Question Choice of topic The topic chosen must focus on the human past, be worthy of study, and lend itself to systematic investigation in line with the published assessment criteria. Essays that focus on events of the last 10 years are not acceptable, as these are regarded as current affairs, not history. It is not a requirement for the topic to be chosen from the Diploma Programme history course, but it must be acceptable to the supervisor. It should provide an opportunity for critical analysis of source material, and not depend on summarizing general secondary sources (such as textbooks and encyclopedias), as this approach is likely to lead to an essay that is essentially narrative or ...
