PAPER RECYCLING:
The recycling of paper is the process by which waste paper is turn into new paper
products.
The paper recycling process involves several steps that begin with the collection
transportation and sorting.
 Collection. Waste papers are collected from collection bins and deposited in
a large recycling container along with the paper received from other collection
bins.
 Transportation. All of the recovered or collected paper waste then gets
transported to the paper recycling plant on a collection van or truck.
 Sorting. After getting transported to the recycling plant, the papers are sorted
into different paper categories, such as cardboard, newspapers, newsprint,
magazine paper, and computer paper.
Operations involved in RECYCLING of PAPER
1. Pulping
2. High desity cleaning
3. Screening
4. Deinking
5. Hot dispersion
PULPING:
Pulping is the process where fibers are separated and treated to
produce the pulp.
LOW CONSISTENCY PULPER
• Operates between 3 – 6 % Consistency
• Low profile rotor that rotates at high speeds
• Motion of rotor causes vortex of pulp stock. The baffles are used
to improve mixing
• High mechanical force due to impact of rotor can damage fiber
and break contaminants.
HIGH CONSISTENCY PULPER:
 Typically operates between 8 – 18 % consistency High
profile rotor used.
 The Helical screw type rotor is needed to pull down the
non-fluid like high consistency stock from top to the
bottom of the pulper.
 At the high consistency fiber-fiber rubbing dominates the
forces experienced in the pulper.
 Separates large heavy contaminants fibers to protect
downstream equipment from damage and plugged.
 Centrifugal forces separate materials mainly due to
density and size.
 Screening separates contaminants mainly based on
size but also shape and deformability
 Performed by presenting a barrier for large
contaminants (slots or holes) that allow fibers to pass
through.

SCREENING
DEINKING:
 Primary activity is ink removal.
 Works on flotation principle.
 Inlet consistency and foam level plays a major role.
 Brightness gain and ash loss are the evaluating parameters.
HOT DISPERSER:
 The primary activity is dispersion
 Contaminants like hot melts, glue and wax gets softened
in the operation.
 Ink particles gets fragmented into micro particles

Cleaning and washing :In water containing 0.1% citric acid/0.3% sodium meta
bi-sulphate
Blanching : Cooking in steam or hot water at about 98 degree centigrade for 7 to 8
min in water containing 1%Nacl and 0.15 citric acid.
Canning ( fillng, weighing, draining, and exhausting ): In brime solution,1% Nacl and
0.25% citric acid or ascorbic acid – temp 78 to 98 degree centigrade
Sealing : All seams, holes and cracks are sealed so that germs or insects have no
chance to penetrate into growing cell
Seaming : A double seam is a canning process that creates a seal between can body
and lid
Sterilization :Higher the 121degree centigrade for at least 2 hours
Cooling : To bring down the temperature to 35 degree centigrade
GROUNDNUT PROCESSING
Groundnut decortication is the operational process of separating the pods into
shells and kernals.
