7. Ø Generally during the months of March and April after a couple of rain
the land should be Prepared by 2 – 3 times deep ploughing .
Ø Following square or hexagonal system of planting the pits of 60cm
size are to be made at a distance of 1.8m – 2.0m.
Ø The pits are to be made 20 – 25 days before planting.

8. Seedling Am ount Of land
—In 100 decimal land papaya planting of 3600
seedling.
—Every pits seedling 3 plant.
—After flowering we remove the rest of 2 plant
every pits.
—Seedling to seedling distance would be 5 feet.

10. Removal of excess plant
• —Out of three planted seedling two should be removed
leaving only one plant per pit.
• —10% male plant should be kept sporadically in the field for
successful pollination.
• —This operation is done at the time of flower initiation.

11. Weeding and cleaning
—Weeding should be done regularly .
—During weeding ,it should be taken carefully so that roots are not
severed from the mother plant.

12. Irrigationand drainage
• —Irrigation should be given in the dry season and drainage
during rainy season.
• —Care should be taken so that the roots get enough
moisture but excess water does not stand around the plant.
• Irrigation cost = 1500 tk.

14. Fertilizer application
—Depending on the variety and fertility the following amount of
manures and fertilizers should be applied per plant.
Name of fertilizer Amount
Cow dung
MOC
TSP
MoP
Urea
20 – 25 kg
500 – 600g
250 – 400g
150 – 250g
250 – 300g

15. Fertilizer application on 1 acre Land
—Depending on the variety and fertility the following amount of manures
and fertilizers should be applied 1200 plant.
Name of fertilizer Amount (Kg) Price (Tk)
Cow dung 24000 6,200
Urea 300 4500
TSP 300 6600
MOP 180 2700

16. Harvesting
—Papaya can be collected after 6 – 7 months of planting.
—It takes 11 – 12 months after planting to get fruit matured.
—Harvesting index of papaya is ascertained from its latex. During this
time the latex become thin from thick and the color becomes lighter
green from deep green.
—Harvest yellow green.
—Dark green fruits will not ripen.
—Each fruit should be harvested with a net so that fruit is not injured.

18. Yield
• —Each plant bear 25 – 75 fruits per plant.
• —An yield of 37t – 75t fruits are produced in a ha of land.
• —Average yield 6 – 10 tons/acre.
• —However, an yield 1200 plant are produced 8 ton fruits in 1
acre land.
• So,,8 tons /8000 kg papaya price in market= 8000×15
=120,000
