• The cultivation in India is mainly due to the production of fruits which is famous
for its flavour
3. SAPOTA PLANT AND ITS PROPERTIES
• Sapota plant is upright in structure and is considered to be a slow growing tree

• The tree develops into a dense, rounded and crown like canopy as it ages
• Sapota tree is famous for its rich white gummy latex called the chuckle
• The sapota fruit is round or egg like shaped
• The skin of the fruit is brown in colour and scruffy upon ripening
4. VARIETIES OF SAPOTA CULTIVARS
• KALIPATTI
Cultivated in Maharashtra,Gujarat and North Karnataka
Broad,thick leaves and oblong fruits
350-400 fruits per tree
CRICKET BALL

Fruits are medium sized and rich in sugars
PILIPATTI
Grown in Maharashtra and Gujarat
The weight of the fruit is 400-500g
7. OBJECTIVES
• Multiplication of elite clones and promising varieties of mango, aonla and litchi
• Solarization of rooting media, mixing and filling of poly bags for large scale
production
• Visit of representatives from State departments of Horticulture.State Agricultural
Universities and people from Indian Nursery
• Supply of seedling/planting material to State Horticultural Mission and Food
Processing Department s per demand on priority basis
8. ESTABLISHMENT OF MOTHER BLOCK
• Wile selecting mother plants following basic chracteristics have
been considered
Consistently high performance and yield over several years with
high quality fruits
Healthy and free from incidence of diseases and insect pests
Plants attained full bearing age, since its characteristics known only
after bearing
9. MAINTENANCE OF MOTHER PLANTS
• A layout at the crops will be maintained
• The maintenance of mother plants right from time of planting to
stage of bearing and subsequent years will be alone
• Agro techniques will be followed,so that vigoroys and healthy scion
shoots are made available for multiplication
10. LAND PREPARATION AND PLANTING
• The land should be ploughed to depth of 20-45cm and properly levelled before
planting
• Initially a distance of 6*6 is maintained between the plants because the plants
take longer time to grow
• Planting is done from June to October.
• Sapota grafts are used for planting
• Normal plant spacing-8.5 to 10 m but by following HDP,the spacing reduced to
5*5 m,in this way productivity increases
11. PROPOGATION AND IRRIGATION
• Propagation by layering and approach grafting
• Availablity of good quality assured irrigation sources is an important
pre-requisite for setting up an commercial nursery production unit
• The source of water will be a well with suitable devices
12. MANGO
• Tropical floweing tree cultivated for its fruits
• Native to South Asia
• The states UP and AP has the largest area under mango cultivation
• Mango is propogated by grafting and also by seeds
• Popular varieties are Alphonsa,Banganapalli,Arka Anmol,Mallika etc.,
• Grown in area with cool, dry climates with severe heat during flowering and
fruiting
13. GUAVA
• Small tree native to tropical and sub tropical regions of world
• Sardar,Smooth green and Arka mridula are some of the varieties
• It is propogated either by seeds or by vegetative methods with air layering
• HDP is adopted in guava to grow more plants per unit of land
• Spacing:3*1.5m
