how machine translation is about empowering users and how users can be empowered using DIY SMT technology to build their own statistical machine translation solutions
Apache Hadoop project, and the Hadoop ecosystem has been designed be extremely flexible, and extensible. HDFS, Yarn, and MapReduce combined have more that 1000 configuration parameters that allow users to tune performance of Hadoop applications, and more importantly, extend Hadoop with application-specific functionality, without having to modify any of the core Hadoop code.
In this talk, I will start with simple extensions, such as writing a new InputFormat to efficiently process video files. I will provide with some extensions that boost application performance, such as optimized compression codecs, and pluggable shuffle implementations. With refactoring of MapReduce framework, and emergence of YARN, as a generic resource manager for Hadoop, one can extend Hadoop further by implementing new computation paradigms.
I will discuss one such computation framework, that allows Message Passing applications to run in the Hadoop cluster alongside MapReduce. I will conclude by outlining some of our ongoing work, that extends HDFS, by removing namespace limitations of the current Namenode implementation.

Our statistical machine translation platform and hybrid features were presented at the European Commission offices in Luxembourg last Tuesday 22nd September. It is one of the tools that the European Union will consider, among other machine translation commercial solutions, as a tool to help its mandate for CEF (Connecting Europe Facility). Pangeanic’s CEO, Manuel Herranz, presented the current state-of-the-art that PangeaMT version 3 represents. Representatives from the EU were particularly interested in the solid data management features, machine translation engine retraining routines, data cleaning and automated engine training and creation features. One of key features with the new PangeaMT version is the possibility to change translation algorithms and use rule-based systems like Apertium and Thot as well as the default Moses. It is also compatible with 3rd-party calls from other systems. Its powerful API can also provide machine translated output to requests anywhere in the world, although the platform is designed for onsite use at translation companies and organizations. PangeaMT is also compatible with several popular translation formats like ttx, sdlxliff, memoq, memsource, and most xml-based Tikal formats.
4 European machine translation companies joined forces to build something bigger than themselves: an intelligent platform capable of detecting domain, detecting languages, balancing load with a view to create a marketplace. The project was financed by the European Commission. This is the presentation by Pangeanic in Gala Boston 2018.
GrayMatter implemented a highly scalable Enterprise Data Warehouse using Pentaho Data Integration, seamlessly integrating 12 source systems, including Oracle HRMS, SAP, and Salesforce, among others. The integration process also involved data from 28 switches, processing approximately 20 million records per hour. A key achievement was the creation of custom LDAP security authentication for Stream's multiple LDAP servers, bolstering data security.
Stream's success story is defined by their ability to provide analytics and reports that serve all stakeholders. From top-level management to operational teams, everyone benefits from key metrics, detailed reporting, and a host of around 10 dashboards. The implementation has significantly increased operational efficiencies, facilitated real-time analysis, and operationalized big data.
Pentaho and GrayMatter emerged as the go-to choices for Stream's transformation journey. Pentaho, an end-to-end business analytics platform, simplified data integration and analytics, while GrayMatter, a trusted Pentaho partner, played a pivotal role in making this transition a resounding success. Together, they provided Stream with the tools and expertise needed to navigate complex challenges and drive efficient, data-driven decisions across the organization.
What Is Platform as a Product - Clues from Team Topologies @ AXA, Sep 2021Manuel Pais

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
