• Charaka has explained it under Unmaada, as Agantuj
a Unmaada is caused due to the exogenous factors lik
e Graha.
• Causative factor for the Agantuja Unmaada is
Aprashasta Karma which is caused due to the Pradny-
aaparaadha.
• Due to Pradnyaaparaadha, a person insults the
respected ones like Deva, Rishi, Pitru, Gandharva,
Yaksha, Siddha etc

• Vataja - If there’s no obstruction for vatanulomana
then one can administer sarpipana
If there is obstruction for vatanulomana, then initially
mild purgation is given and then sarpipana is done.
• Kaphaja - Vamana
• Pittaja - Virechana
• After proper Snehana and Swedana, once the vitiated
doshas are expelled from the body by shodana, one
must follow samsarjana karma.
Cont..
• Thereafter, basti is administered and shirovirechana
is given.
• Depending on the predominance of doshas, shodana
is administered repeatedly.
• If even after shodana, unmada persists then tikshna
navana, anjana and tadana should be done to stimul
ate his mind.
• Pradeha, Utsadana, Abhyanga, Dhuma and Sarpipana
is also indicated in Unamada.

• Ghee stored for ten years is called Purana grita.
• Because of its sacred (pavitra) guna, it cures unmada
specifically grahonmada by alleviating tridoshas.
• Charaka says even the look, touch and smell cures
Grahabhada.

• If it is not possible to administer sarpipana then it
has to be administered in the form of Anjana, Utsad
ana, Alepa, Navana.
• In graha bhada, one must avoid tikhna anjanas and
krurakarma like beating.
• Sarpipana and mridu shodana along with daiva vyap
asrya chikitsa is beneficial.

DISCUSSION
• Some of the Acharyas mentioned about graha under
the causes of Agantuja roga i.e. the diseases which
iginate spontaneously without any known reason.
• The term ‘graha’ can be related with micro-organism
s because the graha are said to be invisible and in the
same way micro-organisms are also invisible with
naked eye.
• Some of the present day Scholars kept Bhutavidya/
graha under mental disorders and some kept it under
Microbiology.
• The disorders with unknown etiology and spontaneo
usly outbreak are believed to be originated due to mi
cro-organisms.

• Almost all the textbooks of medical science starts
with the importance of unknown causes of diseases.
And when humans are unable to understand this, the
y consider them to be originated from micro-organis
ms.
• Microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses, fungi
and parasites, are present everywhere—in the soil,
water, atmosphere and on the body surfaces, and
are responsible for a large number of infectious disea
ses in humans.

which are the major health problems now-a-days:-

CONCLUSION
• Graha roga is the field to be explored further.
• Graha chikitsa is a branch of the eight principle
branches of Ashtanga Ayurveda. It is also called bhuta
vidya and deals with psychology and psychiatry.
• In all forms of insanity the restoration of the serenity
of mind should be first attempted.
• For the patient suffering from agantuja unmada/grah
a, sarpipana etc (Mridu shodana) and matra etc (Daiv
avyapashraya) is the best.
