Narsimhavarman I was a powerful Pallava king who strengthened the empire. During his reign: - He defeated the Chalukyan ruler Pulkesin II in 642 CE and conquered Vatapi, taking the title "Vatapikonda". - The Chalukyan ruler Srivallabha later defeated Narsimhavarman I and occupied Kanchi temporarily. - Narsimhavarman I was successful in expanding the Pallava kingdom, but also faced defeats by powerful Chalukyan rulers. He made major contributions to Temple architecture in South India and administration.

yajnas.
• Probably was an independent powerful ruler.

• British Museum inscription: mentions his name as issuer.
• T.V.Mahalingam + K.A.N.Shastri + D.C.Sircar : Shivaskandavarman &
Skandavarman are one and same ruler.
• British Museum inscription: Also refers to Yuvaraj Buddhvarman and
Buddhyankur.
• Probably, they were his sons.
• Not clear if they were independent or not.

47. Vishnugopa
• Contemporary of Samudragupta.
• Prayag Prashasti: Samudragupta defeated Vishugopa of Kanchi.
• Dubrail: A federation of south Indian kings fought Samudragupta
under the leadership of Vishnugopa.
• Some scholars: Pallavas suffered greatly due to this defeat.
• Reign: c.340-350 CE.
