Pain is an uncomfortable sensation that stems from activation of the nervous system and serves to protect the body. It can be localized to a specific part of the body and described as stabbing, burning, twisting or squeezing. There are different types of pain including acute pain which is sudden and sharp from injuries or illnesses, chronic pain which lasts for months or years from conditions like arthritis, and neuropathic pain which results from nerve damage caused by injuries or illnesses.
