Overview: As a public historian, I fully believe that history is useless without action. It's not enough to just know about a topic; you need to make people care about and do something with that knowledge. For your final, I want YOU to be a public historian. Figure out a way to make people care or do regarding your Midterm topic and thesis. How do you want your research impact the world? How do you want that knowledge to inspire change? "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Breakdown: 1) For the first part of your final you need to assess the current/recent social and cultural understanding of your thesis. This will help you know if your method for creating action has already been done and other relevant information to help you "fine-tune" your method of change or desired impact. Examples ( not limits ) of lines of questioning for this section..... Do your secondary sources give you ideas for creating relevancy? How so? How not? Do your secondary sources influence your desired action? Why? How? What are "people" saying about your topic/thesis? Who are these "people"? Why are they important? NOT a review of secondary sources, that was the midterm. What are non-academic people saying? How/where are they saying it? Why? Is your topic trending? Is your thesis trending in relation? If yes, why? If no, why not? How can either situation be beneficial or damaging to your plan of action. Is there competition in your realm of action (ie. has it been done before? by whom? why?)? Is this a pro or con? Does it help or hurt your desired action? How so? Why? Are there any current topics/trends/issues that could help/hurt your message delivery and action plan? How? Why? Who are your most relevant audiences? How do you best reach them? How do you best get them to translate reach to action? 2) The second part of your final should be a fairly detailed description/plan for creating impact/action in society. Use your secondary sources to help fill-in the content of your messaging plan. How do you assess relevancy/impact? What is relevancy today? You can pitch action, but if you're not aware of how to assess action - what's the point? Make sure it's practical. Don't worry about budgets, but make sure your strategy for action makes sense. (ex. TikTok dances to raise awareness about serious issues like paternalism, violence, rape, torture, enslavement Do not (to me), at first, seem like appropriate methods of action for such concerning topics. I can be proven wrong, though, that's why we're doing this project!) Make sure it's relevant. Don't pitch a museum if you really don't think a museum will work. I want a method you legitimately think will create change today or in the near-future - not 35 years ago. How will this method create the change you want to see? How do(es) your relevant audience(s) impact/influence your method and plan? Do they? If not, why? If so, how? .

We can oftentimes take a sociological concept and use it to explain something that occurs in our own lives. For example, you have learned about norms and how we tend to follow the norms of a society. You can use that to explain how people behave when they are in an elevator. Most people face forward, look up at the numbers, and don't talk.
Many of your experiences can be analyzed using sociological concepts. For your final assessment, Assessment 6, you will complete a Sociology of Me and apply many of the concepts you have learned about in this course to your own life. For Assessment 5, begin to think about which concepts you would like to apply to your own experience, develop an outline, and identify appropriate resources. In order to complete this assessment, you will need to show your understanding of some additional concepts related to social structure, education, and technology/media.
We have learned how a society's culture can influence people. There are other elements in society, however, that also affect our decisions and behavior. Sociological research has found that in addition to culture, social structure and groups also significantly impact many of our individual choices. Our position in the social structure affects our behaviors, attitudes, and ideas. For example, an important element of social structure are groups. We belong to a variety of different groups. Decades of research have documented the impact of group conformity on the individual. Although people tend to often believe that they act as individuals and aren't impacted by others, research has found this is usually not the case. The Milgram experiment in your Resources is a great example. Milgram (1963) examined conformity and obedience and found that people are highly influenced by authority and the demands of conformity, even to the point that we will inflict pain on another person to obey authority.
Sociologists also study education and how it is impacted by a society's culture and structure. The purpose of education is to provide knowledge (facts, skills, cultural norms) to members of a society. In the United States, education teaches us not just skills, but also how to be effective citizens. Education transmits the dominant culture, ensuring that children understand cultural norms and values. Educational attainment impacts life outcomes—it affects our occupation, earnings, work conditions, and health. Thus, education is related to social inequality. We have a tendency to assume that education is an equalizer in the United States, but this is something that is debated by sociologists. Is education equally available to everyone? This document summarizes the findings of a 2003-2006 study on media consumption and public engagement. The study was replicated across Europe, the Americas, and New Zealand. It used both quantitative (surveys) and qualitative (interviews, diaries) methods to examine how people understand and engage with public issues through their media diets. Key findings included that digital media do not replace traditional sources; social media consumption does not imply online deliberation; and communicative deliberation does not necessarily lead to political engagement. The study also found that traditional models in political science do not fully capture new forms of participation emerging online.

In his 2001 article, “Good to Greatâ€, Jim Collins found 11 companies that went from good to great and metaphorically discussed how each of them did this. Of particular note was how Collins described the transformation of Wells Fargo.
Using the Hedgehog Concept, Collins argued that leaders are hedgehogs, not foxes. Foxes are good at many things. Hedgehogs are good at 1 big thing and are able to distill everything down to 1 simple workable idea. Accordingly, to be a great company, the CEO would have to ask: 1) what is the company best at; 2) what economic denominator drives the company; and, 3) what are the employees passionate about? Using this formula, Collins notably claims that Wells Fargo discovered that their economic driver was not profit per loan but profit per employee. Consequently, they pioneered electronic banking with the idea that they would “run a business like they owned it†and ended up turning that employee profit into superior results.
Although Collins does not empirically define these results, Wells Fargo’s profit summaries since 2001 reflect as much. In 2016, a former employee revealed that Wells Fargo had been involved in elaborate schemes to defraud customers by using their information to create phony accounts without their knowledge. Still trying to recover from the $1.2 billion housing settlement in February of 2016, this disclosure resulted in yet another $185 million in fines by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Consequently, the CEO resigned and the Department of Justice (DOJ) is now investigating the company. Wells Fargo shares have lost nearly 16% of their value.
For your discussion, you must first determine if Collins was incorrect to begin with. Did Collins simply misinterpret how Wells Fargo reported their successes after 2001? Or was it something internal at Wells Fargo that caused the Hedgehog Concept to go awry? If so, how could profit per employee go so wrong? Most importantly, where was the failure in leadership and why?

Decades of research have documented the impact of group conformity on the individual. Although people tend to often believe that they act as individuals and aren't impacted by others, research has found this is usually not the case. The Milgram experiment in your Resources is a great example. Milgram (1963) examined conformity and obedience and found that people are highly influenced by authority and the demands of conformity, even to the point that we will inflict pain on another person to obey authority.

This document summarizes the findings of a 2003-2006 study on media consumption and public engagement. The study was replicated across Europe, the Americas, and New Zealand. It used both quantitative (surveys) and qualitative (interviews, diaries) methods to examine how people understand and engage with public issues through their media diets. Key findings included that digital media do not replace traditional sources; social media consumption does not imply online deliberation; and communicative deliberation does not necessarily lead to political engagement. The study also found that traditional models in political science do not fully capture new forms of participation emerging online.

In his 2001 article, “Good to Greatâ€, Jim Collins found 11 companies that went from good to great and metaphorically discussed how each of them did this. Of particular note was how Collins described the transformation of Wells Fargo.
Using the Hedgehog Concept, Collins argued that leaders are hedgehogs, not foxes. Foxes are good at many things. Hedgehogs are good at 1 big thing and are able to distill everything down to 1 simple workable idea. Accordingly, to be a great company, the CEO would have to ask: 1) what is the company best at; 2) what economic denominator drives the company; and, 3) what are the employees passionate about? Using this formula, Collins notably claims that Wells Fargo discovered that their economic driver was not profit per loan but profit per employee. Consequently, they pioneered electronic banking with the idea that they would “run a business like they owned it†and ended up turning that employee profit into superior results.
Although Collins does not empirically define these results, Wells Fargo’s profit summaries since 2001 reflect as much. In 2016, a former employee revealed that Wells Fargo had been involved in elaborate schemes to defraud customers by using their information to create phony accounts without their knowledge. Still trying to recover from the $1.2 billion housing settlement in February of 2016, this disclosure resulted in yet another $185 million in fines by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Consequently, the CEO resigned and the Department of Justice (DOJ) is now investigating the company. Wells Fargo shares have lost nearly 16% of their value.
For your discussion, you must first determine if Collins was incorrect to begin with. Did Collins simply misinterpret how Wells Fargo reported their successes after 2001? Or was it something internal at Wells Fargo that caused the Hedgehog Concept to go awry? If so, how could profit per employee go so wrong? Most importantly, where was the failure in leadership and why?

Guiding Coalition
As you are aware, I was chosen to join the team responsible for strategic planning to help them access the exit strategy the company is laying out. I'm excited to share information about potential collaborators and their sway over the company and the intended audience. We are all aware that change is a constant in organizations, and the success of the change will depend on how well employers and employees can adjust. Businesses must also carefully choose the people who will spearhead the change. All other interventions will have access to the market if the right leaders are chosen to influence the community (Breuer et al., 2018). Introducing the drug to the market will require supportive influence from both the internal and external markets for our business. We'll begin by choosing a team of leaders who lead the other team and give their subordinates feedback. These leaders need traits and abilities that improve the organization's reputation. Their organizational expertise, which can be gauged by the years they have worked there, will be crucial in this process. Additionally, it will be necessary for them to be enthusiastic because it will affect how well they perform. The last factor is their role, which largely affects the process because they will use their expertise to encourage participation.
The first person selected is Omar, who is the Manufacturing Director. Omar manages three departments; Supply Chain Strategies, Middle Eastern Operations and North America Operations. He is also managing 12 manufacturing plants that have 580 hourly workers. He has served the organization for three years, but his job satisfaction is rated at the highest level. Omar influences three areas in this organization; manufacturing, supply chain and operations.
I chose Omar because his influence in manufacturing is enough to provide the organization with information about the capacity and the size of the market it can serve. He is also in a position to advise the business on regulatory standards and market demand. This leader manages supply chain individuals who are in a position to understand cost-saving products. The department will be at the forefront in selecting the best partners to work with and how to satisfy their customers. Operations will also be able to take the lead in quality and regulatory adherence.

these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different

land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries

to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have

cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,

- 1. Overview: As a public historian, I fully believe that history is useless without action. It's not enough to just know about a topic; you need to make people care about and do something with that knowledge. For your final, I want YOU to be a public historian. Figure out a way to make people care or do regarding your Midterm topic and thesis. How do you want your research impact the world? How do you want that knowledge to inspire change? "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Breakdown: 1) For the first part of your final you need to assess the current/recent social and cultural understanding of your thesis. This will help you know if your method for creating action has already been done and other relevant information to help you "fine-tune" your method of change or desired impact. Examples ( not limits ) of lines of questioning for this section..... Do your secondary sources give you ideas for creating relevancy? How so? How not? Do your secondary sources influence your desired action? Why? How? What are "people" saying about your topic/thesis? Who are these "people"? Why are they important? NOT a review of secondary sources, that was the midterm. What are non-academic people saying? How/where are they saying it? Why? Is your topic trending? Is your thesis trending in relation? If yes, why? If no, why not? How can either situation be beneficial or damaging to your plan of action. Is there competition in your realm of action (ie. has it been done before? by whom? why?)? Is this a pro or con? Does it help or hurt your desired action? How so? Why? Are there any current topics/trends/issues that could help/hurt your message delivery and action plan? How? Why?
- 2. Who are your most relevant audiences? How do you best reach them? How do you best get them to translate reach to action? 2) The second part of your final should be a fairly detailed description/plan for creating impact/action in society. Use your secondary sources to help fill-in the content of your messaging plan. How do you assess relevancy/impact? What is relevancy today? You can pitch action, but if you're not aware of how to assess action - what's the point? Make sure it's practical. Don't worry about budgets, but make sure your strategy for action makes sense. (ex. TikTok dances to raise awareness about serious issues like paternalism, violence, rape, torture, enslavement Do not (to me), at first, seem like appropriate methods of action for such concerning topics. I can be proven wrong, though, that's why we're doing this project!) Make sure it's relevant. Don't pitch a museum if you really don't think a museum will work. I want a method you legitimately think will create change today or in the near-future - not 35 years ago. How will this method create the change you want to see? How do(es) your relevant audience(s) impact/influence your method and plan? Do they? If not, why? If so, how?
