Exam Fear, Exam Phobia or Test Anxiety...


No matter how you call it - all relates to
the fearfulness about upcoming exam

A psychological condition in which
people experience extreme distress and
anxiety in testing situations from the fear
of failing during an exam or evaluation
Understanding Exam Anxiety
Exam anxiety is a type of
performance anxiety. In situations where
the pressure is on and a good performance
counts, people can become so anxious
that they are actually unable to do their
best

It is this anxiety which hinders students'
performance even if they have the
knowledge and skill set to do well in the
exams
Exam Anxiety is a vicious cycle:

Stronger feeling that exams       Exam as a threatening event
are threatening




 Poor outcome confirms the
 perception of threat               Anxiety lowers performance
Here are a few tips for the students to avoid the
 anxiety before facing the heat of the moment


Quick survey to your textbook or
workbook before you read:

Take a couple of minutes to go
through the glossary, index, study
questions and other important
information.
Make sure you read any study questions
before you read the chapter:

This will help you to know what you can
probably expect in your upcoming
exam.

Attack your textbook with sticky notes:

As you read, write down the main
points in just a few sentences.
Reviewing the sticky notes at the end
of the chapter is the fast way to find the
important information you need.
Make your own practice test:

On completion of a chapter, take a
self-test and assess yourself. Review
the material you read, and prepare a
set of questions. Take the exam you
have created and check if you can
answer all the questions. If not, go
back and study for some more time.


A great way to build your
confidence as you fall asleep each
night is to visualize yourself doing
well in the exam.
'Practise' success will help you to
stay calm and perform better.



Be prepared for your upcoming exams
and invest enough time to study for it.
If you are excellently prepared and
studied as much as possible then there
is no need to be fearful about the exam.
