The National Library of Finland has outsourced several of its library systems and services over the years to reduce costs and focus on its core tasks. It outsourced server maintenance to CSC which led to savings and improved support. It also took over integrated library system administration for some university libraries. The Linnea consortium outsourced its interlibrary loan hardware to a Canadian company. Outsourcing requires careful planning and contract negotiation to define responsibilities and service levels.
