DEFINITION
Out patient department is defined as a
section of the hospital with allotted physical
as well as medical facilities, medical & other
staff in sufficient number, with regularly
scheduled hours, to provide care for
patients who are not registered as
inpatients.
5. Types of OPDs
1) Centralized :-
Grouped together in the form of
OPD complex
Consultants from different
departments come to this area for
OPD work
2) Decentralized :-
outpatient care is provided in
respective department of hospital
6. Functions of
OPD
To provide specialist diagnostic, medical opinion to outpatients.
To treat patients on ambulatory basis or domiciliary basis.
Screen patients for hospitalization.
Follow up treatment of discharge patients.
Training and education of medical, paramedical and nursing staff.
Collection, compilation and analysis of medical records
Provide primary healthcare by means of
health education
immunization
well baby clinic
Voluntary Counseling & Testing Centre (VCTC) for HIV/AIDS.
