Myringotomy (from Latin myringa "eardrum") is a surgical procedure in which a tiny incision is created in the eardrum to relieve pressure caused by excessive buildup of fluid, or to drain pus from the middle ear. A tympanostomy tube is inserted into the eardrum to keep the middle ear aerated for a prolonged time and to prevent reaccumulation of fluid. Without the insertion of a tube, the incision usually heals spontaneously in two to three weeks. Depending on the type, the tube is either naturally extruded in 6 to 12 months or removed during a minor procedure.

WHAT IS ORAL CANCER-UNDERSTANDING SIGNS, STAGES AND SYMPTOMSElite Dental Group
Cancer is regarded as the uncontrollable growth of cells that attack and cause damage to the surrounding tissue. It is regarded as one of the threatening diseases among human beings. Different types of cancers are visible in this world.
Oral cancer or mouth cancer may occur in anyone. However, those people who consume tobacco or alcohol are at more risk of it. Oral cancer may occur and develop in the oral cavity. It is a serious health condition that may cause injury or death.
Dental and oral health is an essential part of your overall health and well-being. Poor oral hygiene can lead to dental cavities and gum disease and has also been linked to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
Excellent presentation on cancer
A book written by Professor Richard Beliveau and Dr Denis Ginger on “foods to fight cancer” have the following findings:
Statistic shows that one out of three people is affected by cancer before the age of 75
This represents 12 per cent of all reported deaths on Earth.
However, fear not, there is hope.
A recent cancer study by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has suggested that two-thirds of cancer cases are primarily due to random cell mutations. The other third are thought to arise due to environmental factors, lifestyle and inherited genes.1
Each day, billions of cells are replenished within our bodies by the dividing of our stem cells. With each cell division, there is a danger of DNA mutation which ultimately leads to a cell becoming cancerous. The body may then continue to split the cancerous cells and produce more cancerous cells through this replication process.
Non-Removable Hybrid Bridge: The Best Alternative to Conventional DenturesDr. Kathryn Alderman
Are you looking to replace your teeth, but not wanting traditional dentures? A new revolutionary implant procedure offers a beautiful prosthesis known as “Teeth-In-One-Day” or a Fixed Hybrid Bridge or Hybrid Prosthesis. The hybrid prosthesis is the only treatment in dentistry that provides total replacement of teeth and permanently stays in your mouth. Also, a hybrid prosthesis is excellent in aesthetics, resulting in a dramatic improvement in quality of life for patients. This is not an implant denture, this is an implant bridge that stays in a mouth permanently and is the same as clear choice 4-on-1 or all on 4 dental implants bridge.
The procedure is also known as “implant retained bridges” or “one-day teeth replacement.”
The immediate delivery (you will never be without your teeth) of an implant-supported hybrid restoration is a revolutionary procedure that required extensive training. The hybrid prosthesis team includes a dentist, surgeon, and an implant technician.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. The Oral Cancer Foundation has stated that one
American is dying from oral cancer every hour.
Many people are unaware of the fact that early detection is
essential to prevent oral cancer, so it’s important to raise
awareness about oral cancer and how screenings help in
early detection.
3. What are the most significant risk
factors for Oral Cancer?
• Tobacco use. Using tobacco, including
cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco,
and snuff, is the single largest risk factor for
head and neck cancer.
• Alcohol. Frequent and heavy consumption of
alcohol increases the risk of head and neck
cancer. Using alcohol and tobacco together
increases this risk even more.
• Prolonged sun exposure.
• Human papillomavirus (HPV)
• Gender. Men are more likely to develop
oral cancer than women.
• Age. People older than 45 have an increased
risk for oral cancer, although this type of
cancer can develop in people of any age.
• Poor oral hygiene.
• Poor diet and nutrition
• Weakened immune system.
• Marijuana use.
• Fair skin. Fair skin is linked to a higher
risk of lip cancer.
5. What about HPV Virus
Related Cancer?
Human papillomavirus (HPV). Research shows
that infection with the HPV virus is a risk factor
for oropharyngeal cancer. In fact, HPV-related
oropharyngeal cancer in the tonsils and the
base of the tongue has become more common
in recent years.
Sexual activity with someone who has HPV,
including oral sex, is the most common way
someone gets HPV. There are different types of
HPV, called strains. Research links some HPV
strains more strongly with certain types of
cancers. There are vaccines available to protect
you from HPV infection.
7. Can you get oral cancer without risk factors?
YES
8. What can you
do to decrease
risks for oral cancer?
• Practice good oral hygiene:
Brush twice and floss daily to
keep your immune system in top shape,
enabling your body to fight off potential problems.
• Oral health and overall body health go hand in hand.
10. Incorporate a range of fruits and vegetables into your daily
diet, including dark green leafy vegetables, cruciferous
vegetables (i.e. broccoli, cabbage), grapes, tomatoes,
and berries.
Eating varied produce will increase the vitamins and
antioxidants in your diet, which may help lower your
risk of mouth cancer.

11. Limit Alcohol Consumption
Chronic excessive alcohol intake
irritates the cells in the mouth,
making you more susceptible
to oral cancer.
12. Limit Sun Exposure
Whenever possible, stay in the shade to shield your lips
from the sun. When you do go out in the sun, apply ample
sunscreen and wear a broad-brimmed hat that shades your
face, including your mouth.
13. Steer Clear of
Tobacco Products
Either smoked , chewed or in
a form of E-cigarettes tobacco
exposes the cells in the mouth
to toxic cancer-causing chemicals.
If you currently use tobacco
products, then it’s time to quit.
If you don’t use tobacco products,
then don’t start.
15. Go in for Oral
Cancer Screenings
Early detection helps in treating oral
cancer successfully. The American
Cancer society has recommended
oral cancer screenings every three
years for people who are over 20
years old and annually for those
who are over 40 years old.
Get screened now!
16. You can Conduct Monthly Self-Exams
Take a few minutes each month to inspect the back and sides of your
mouth and tongue for lumps, bumps, tender regions, or irregular colo
If you spot anything unusual, consult your dentist.
18. Your Dentist and Hygienist
for Annual Cancer Screenings
During your routine dental exams twice a year, your dentist and
hygienist will check your mouth for abnormal issues that may
point to mouth cancer or other serious oral conditions.
19. What to do if you
have a suspicious spot?
• See your dentist for an exam.
• Do not be embarrassed
to be wrong.
• Prevention and early
detection will keep you
healthy and living longer.
