This document provides an introduction to an operating systems course. It will describe the internal behavior of operating systems using examples from Linux, Windows, and Solaris. Students will write 4-5 programs in C/C++ running on Linux. Topics covered include operating system structures, processes, multithreading, scheduling, synchronization, deadlocks, memory management, file systems, and I/O systems. The textbook is listed, as well as information on exams, homework, and programming assignments, the instructor's contact details, and course policies.
