Statement Of Music Therapy
I believe that helping people and taking care of each other is our duty. We should use our talents
to accommodate the needs of not only ours but, others too. This is my motivation for becoming a
Music Therapist. This profession ties two of my strong interests as I have been a musician under
development for 7 years. I strongly believe and have been told that my personal qualities are
exactly what it takes to work in therapy. I am patient, respectful, responsible and supporting. These
four qualities are essential when working with vulnerable adults, adolescents, and children.
An immediate goal of mine is to improve my knowledge on all of the different types of illnesses
that are dealt with in Music Therapy. I have always been interested in ... Show more content on

I have gained experience with working with Nursery aged children, as well as secondary school
adolescents. Every day worked with school children is very rewarding when I know that I have
taught them something or, given them a fresh, new outlook on something. I continue to take on
exciting opportunities to work with charities. Due to the upcoming World Awareness Autism day, I
will soon be helping with the bucket collections in busy places in London. I believe that this is an
exciting opportunity because I will be able to share my gathered knowledge on Autism.
After completing the Postgraduate course at Anglia Ruskin University, I am eager to start work with
the NHS. My ideal sector would be the elderly, as I have gotten to know the Alzheimer s disease
more, it has become an increasingly desirable group for me to work within the future. Thus this
would be my ideal area of work, I would also like to experience working with Autistic patients
because that is also an interest of mine. I trust that my experience and skill set are a strong match to

The Movie Apocalypse Now By Benjamin Willard
The movie Apocalypse Now is about an Army Captain and special operations returned to Saigon
since his involvement in the Vietnam War. This is a man who drinks a lot and is always alone
in his own room. One day military officers General Corman and Colonel Lucas approaches him
with an assignment to follow the Nung river into the jungle. He has to find Special Forces
Walter Kurtz and kill him. The Colonel Walter went crazy and now commands his own troops in
Cambodia. Benjamin Willard the army captain joins the navy commanded by Chief and his
crew in Cambodia. Benjamin and his men are now in a Helicopter transported by an Helicopter
and they began there journey up the river in Cambodia. Benjamin Willard reads up on Walter
Kultz and what he has done learning about the officer and possible techniques to capture him.
Benjamin and the crew inspect a civilian for weapons but panics and Willard shoots dead the
only woman alive to prevent any further delay of the mission. There is little bit of tension
between Chief and Willard, as he believes himself to be in command of the assignment and the
crew, while the chief thinks about the objectives over Willard s secret mission. Chaos begins to
erupt on the Us outpost at a bridge under attack. Willard learns that another commander officer
was sent earlier to kill Kurtz. The movie begins with an upside face and images on its memory,
several minutes of the movie after is foreshadowing. For example in the movie there are trees and

Examples Of Structuralism In I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
I am putting to use a structuralist view upon the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud because it
can be related to with simpleness, put down to the fact that it is positioned in the lyrical genre.
Structuralism is a theory in which all elements of human culture are thought to be part of a system
of signs. Robert Scholes demarcated structuralismas a reaction towards despair and modernism
(Scholes, Robert. Structuralism in Literature: An Introduction, 1975). I Wandered Lonely as a
Cloud is a poem that commemorates the utmost beauty of nature to such a degree that the poet
believes it to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As previously stated, structuralism is a theory in which all elements of human culture are
thought to be part of a system of signs. Structuralists are concerned with issues such as form and
genre. The reason why I chose to apply a structuralist perspective upon William Wordsworth s
poem is due to the fact that that it can be easily interacted with because it is positioned in the
lyrical genre. The rhyming scheme is in the form ABABCC. The rhyming couplet evident at the
end of each stanza creates an unpretentious break caused by the addition of a new stanza. As a
result, the final line of teach stanza contains an additional sense of emphasis. The final line of the
poem mentions the show and conveys images of dancing daffodils, a long lasting impression
discussed by Wordsworth. The meter of this poem is an iambic tetrameter. The meter creates a
rhythm with a musical, song like quality, to which the daffodils may dance. Wordsworth also
employs consonance and alliteration to create the sense of rhythm. The form of a poem is of
utmost importance to structuralist critics. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is twenty four lines long
and it features four stanzas with six lines each. In each individual stanza there is a perceptible
pattern the first line rhymes with the third line and the second line rhymes with the fourth line. The
stanzas finish with the inclusion of a rhyming couplet. By concentrating the first three stanzas on
the lake experience and the final on the memory of that experience, Wordsworth amalgamates the
content of the poem. It is interesting to note that despite the obvious fact that I Wandered Lonely
as a Cloud is built as a sonnet although it is a lyrical poem. Wordsworth employs figurative
language such as comparisons, personification, epithets and metaphors so as to express his feelings
to the reader. As a sub genre, I Wandered Lonely as

Hitler Death Camp Research Paper
Hitler s Final Solution led to the demise of millions, and through our presentation, we reflect on a
time of darkness. Death Camps or, Extermination Camps such as Auschwitz were meant for the
indiscriminate and deliberate killing of millions of Jews, Soviets, Gypsies and disabled people. In
the beginning, Auschwitz was a labor camp in order to speed the expansion of the camp, until
expansion ended in 1943 and Auschwitz became a Death Camp. Auschwitz I, Auschwitz Birkenau,
and Auschwitz Monowitz opened one after the other in 1941 3. All parts of Auschwitz killed people
by means of gas chambers, shootings, medical experiments. Medical experiments included removal
of organs and extremities, poisoning among other things. Like Auschwitz, Buchenwald

Finding Nemo Archetypes
Hero s Journey: Finding Nemo What is the typical idea of a hero? Sure, there may be Marvel
Heroes, but do they fit the archetype of a The Hero s Journey? In the movie Finding Nemo
directed by Andrew Stanton, a small fearful clownfish goes on a life changing adventure after
his son had been taken by a scuba diver. Marlin s journey has its ups and downs but it fits the
pattern of the hero s journey archetype almost perfectly. Joseph Campbell said, A hero ventures
forth from the world of common day into a religion of supernatural wonder. Fabulous forces are
there encountered and a decisive victory is won, the hero comes back from this mysterious
adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow men (Campbell). Marlin does exactly
that. He goes from the ordinary world into the sacred world in search for his treasure, his son,
Nemo. First, Marlin s journey begins with the call to adventure . The call is when the hero is
asked to leave the ordinary world to reach a specific goal. Our hero s call begins when Nemo s
new friends dare him to go touch the butt. Nemo gets taken by a scuba diver and this leaves
everybody speechless and panicking. This moment is the spark of Marlin s Journey. After trying to
chase the scuba diver, Marlin almost had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But before there can be a happy ending, the hero must first experience hell. Marlin experiences
his journey to hell, (death and rebirth,) when he is in the dentists office and thinks Nemo is dead.
A man realizing that his son was dead would be hell for any father. Marlins way out of hell is
when Nemo finds him after being flushed and they are reunited. At this point in the hero s journey,
the hero has reached the atonement with the father. This is when two people reconcile with one
another, are reunited, or learn to look passed differences. In this case, Marlin has reached his
treasure because Nemo and him are finally brought back together as father and

Cash Management Essay
The management of cash is essential to the survival of any organization. Managing an
organization s financial operation requires knowledge of the economy and ways to maximize
revenue. For any organization to operate on a daily basis adequate cash flow is required. Without
cash management the organization will be unable to function because there is no cash readily
available in case of inconsistencies in the market. Cash is also needed to keep the cycle of the
company s operations going.
Many organizations have maximized the use of cash on hand by effective cash management
techniques and the use of short term financing. This paper will discuss various cash management

In the business world companies are always trying to maximize their earning potential by
strategically investing in short term financing. In terms of finance short term may mean months or
even a couple of years. The type of finance method that is used is contingent on the specific
needs of the corporation. These methods include trade credit, bank credit, financing through
commercial paper, foreign borrowing, and the use of collateral, accounts receivable financing,
inventory financing and hedging to reduce borrowing risk. Trade credit is the practice of
purchasing goods now and paying for them later. Trade credit is widely used and is the least
expensive and most convenient form of short term financing (McHugh, McHugh Nickels, 1999, p.
573). When a company purchases goods on credit an invoice is received outlining the terms of
repayment. An invoice contains terms such as 2/10, net 30. The total bill is due in 30 days, but
the supplier has extended a discount if the amount is paid in full within 10 days. Finance managers
use the information on the invoice to perform an analysis to find out if the discount is worth paying
the invoice in advance or if there is opportunity for more earning potential if invested elsewhere.
Banks issue credits to organizations seeking funds for there ventures. The bank usually prefers a
self liquidating loan in which the use of funds will ensure a built in or automatic repayment scheme

Persuasion And Anne Elliot
In the novel Persuasion, Anne Elliot was the second daughter of Sir Walter Elliot and was the
heroine in this novel by Jane Austen. Anne had two sisters named Elizabeth and Mary. Elizabeth
was the oldest daughter and was much like her father, being cold and selfish. Unfortunately,
Elizabeth was her father s favorite daughter. Mary was the youngest daughter who was married
to a young man named Charles Musgrove. Anne, being the middle child, was sweet and shy
about her intelligence and was ignored by her father and sister Elizabeth. Anne s father, Sir
Walter Elliot, was a very conceited and vain man because of his good looks and his title of minor
nobility. He lived above his financial means most of the time and rented a big home so others in...

The Austen children grew up being encouraged to learn by extensive reading from their father s
library and to be creative thinkers. Jane and her sister were sent to a boarding school so they
would have a formal education. Jane started to write romantic fiction as a young teen. After Jane s
father died, she and her sister had financial difficulties much like the Elliot s did in Persuasion. Jane
Austen s life seems to be closely related to many of the situations and characters in the lives of
the female characters she writes about in her novels. Jane was also persuaded by her father and
a female mentor to not to love a man because they believed he could not provide for her
financially and he was not of a high social status. This situation can be compared to Anne Elliot s
character when she was persuaded by her father and mentor, Lady Russell, to give up her love of
and engagement to Captain Fredrick Wentworth, a British naval officer. They found him to be an
unsuitable choice because of his lack of money and connections in society. Jane Austen wrote about
real life issues of manner, upbringing of children, morality, education, and marriagein a society of
high social status and position. Jane Austen s family was well respected members of their
community, much like the Elliot family. Jane s status as a single woman did not upset her like
other single women. The lack of a husband allowed her the freedom to concentrate on her novels,
and gave her the opportunity to be a great observer of the actions of those around her, especially in
the study of complex classes and gender relationships which were an important part of life in the
early nineteenth century English

Terry because she feels he needs her help and needs someone to care for him, being a teacher in

involved with her brothers murder because she feels he can help solve who actually killed Joey,
and can see past the whole situation. 7. Edie changes Terry to grow and develop more, terry

Gettysburg Address Speech Analysis
Past president, Barack Obama once stated Change will not come if we wait for some other
person or some other time. We are the ones we ve been waiting for. We are the change that we
seek . This quote means that if we keep pursuing this concept that somebody else is going to do
our needed work in the future, then we as a country, society, and even world, will never world,
will never be able to take the right steps to be successful. We are the generation that the previous
one spoke of, we need to step up to the plate and take action. Three ideas that came into being that
relate to this quote are the Gettysburg addressspeech, a passage in the novel Me: Stories of My
Life , and the Black Lives Matter protest. To start off with, a historical event that related to my
original quote is a section of the Gettysburg Address speech. President Lincoln gave one of the
best written speeches to this date, and one particular section states It is for us the living rather to
be dedicated here to unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far nobly advances. It
is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us . The Gettysburg Address
speech almost directly relates to Barack Obamas quote because they both share the same concept of
change. Lincoln talks about unfinished work , and now they can t forget about the past struggles
because those events were what brought them to their current situation. Even though they still lost
lives, and had an

World War 2 Movie Analysis
There is a movie made in 2002 called Windtalkers that was about the Navajo code talkers. This
was the first time a lot of people had ever heard of the bravery and sacrifice of the American
Indians during World War 2. Of course this is a Hollywood so liberties are taken for dramatic
purposes but it served its purpose of exposing the masses to the invaluable contribution to the war
effort. The government by this time had, had a long track record of horrible abuse to the American
Indians, but that did not stop them from enlisted and making the same sacrifices as everyone else.
Sadly the treatment of the American Indians would still be the same as far as the government was
concerned. The treatment from the government and other soldiers as well as the contributions to
the war effort became a turning point for both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White America thought the war finished integrating the American Indian into normal America.
American Indians also got to see white America up close. They were both attracted and repelled
(Morgan). The thought of a better income, higher standard of living, and higher education were
very attractive to them, but they feared that lessening of tribal influence and the threat of forfeiting
the security of the reservation. Indians did not want equality with whites at the price of losing
group identification. It was a tremendously difficult adjustment; more than for white America,
which had known modem war and mobilization before. But in the process, Native Americans
became Indian Americans, not just American Indians (Morgan). In traditional American nature you
will only be considered American once you prove yourself to their standards, and do something for
them. Nonetheless the effects of World War 2 cannot be understated. These effects are still being
felt today and forever changed the American Indian Experience in

Tsa And Transportation Security Administration
On September 11, 2001, 3,000 of Americans was killed in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in
New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. In response the United States established a Transportation
Security Administration (TSA) and heighten its security throughout the transportation system,
which were designed to prevent similar attacks in the future. This research paper will discuss the
history of the TSA and what it does, how TSA improve aviation security, and the cargo screening
process. This paper will conclude an overall debrief of my discussion about the TSA and

Declaration Of The Rights Of Man Essay
Many revolutionaries and peasants insist on revoking Article 17 of the Declaration of the Rights
of Man, which declares that property is a sacred and inviolable right. The National Assembly has
already seized and sold much of the land of the Catholic Church, and even peasants have taken
thousands of manor houses. The most extreme and wild radicals seek to eliminate all rights to
property. If these radicals and revolutionaries succeed in eliminating a right to property and in
confiscating all of the wealth in France, they will eventually cripple France s intellectual creativity.
Furthermore, France will resemble the horrific and savage state which Rousseau cherishes because

Burke notes that Title 1 of the pending constitution guarantees the inviolability of property or a
just and prior indemnity for that of which a legally established public necessity may demand the
sacrifice. How can the inviolability of property possibly be reconciled with the National
Assembly grabbing the lands of the nobility and the Catholic Church? Burke also goes on to
wonder what will happen next if the state begins to take away one institution or person s
property. In his writing, Burke states It is not the confiscation of our church property from this
example in France that I dread, though I think this would be no trifling evil. The great source of
my solicitude is, lest it should ever be considered in England as the policy of a state, to seek a
resource in confiscations of any kind; or that any one description of citizens should be brought to
regard any of the others as their proper prey. Revolutions and their radicals are favourable to

U.s. Army s 516th Signal Brigade
Introduction With each passing year, current technologies continue to evolve or change while new
technology or innovations emerge that, in some instances, profoundly change markets, societies, or
ways of living. For all organizations, to include the military, the persistent change of technology
means that organizations must also evolve and change accordingly. Based on research by
Accenture s Paul Nunes and Tim Breene in 2011, only 7 percent of companies that cease to grow
ever survive over the long term, which serves as a strong warning for any organization about the
need to change. In addition to technological change, the military faces many other challenges as
well. The most significant challenges include budgetary constraints, mandated drawdowns in
personnel strength, and numerous mission demands across the globe. This is the greater context
facing the U.S. Army s 516th Signal Brigadebased in Hawaii. The 516th Signal Brigade consists
of 2,500 soldiers and federal employees responsible for the installation, operation, and defense of
tactical and strategic information technology (IT) networks for the U.S. Army in the Pacific
Theater (from Japan to Alaska). Every day the 516th Signal Brigade must defend against cyber
attacks, provide IT service support to many thousands of users, and remain prepared to deploy
quickly its mobile communications teams in the event of conflict or a natural disaster. However,

Richard Hofstadter s The Age of Reform
In 1955, Richard Hofstadter wrote his Pulitzer Prize winning book The Age of Reform, about the
Gilded Age. Hofstadter s arguments about the Populist and Progressive movements and their
origins started debate and renewed scholarship on the Populist and Progressive movements. Many
historians did not agree with Hofstadter s arguments and published their own papers stating their
conclusions based on their own research. This scenario occurs all the time in the history field. One

He argues that for the early part of the history of the United States the culture of the nation
centered on the farmer and the agrarian myth. The agrarian myth is that the independent family
farmer was what drove the nation. Hofstadter states that framers enjoyed a certain privileged
status in society. He argues that by the late 1870s this image or status was in decline and that
farmers began to resent this loss of status. He asserts that the Populist movement was born out of
this resentment. He explains that this resentment towards city dwellers those whose opinion of
farming was declining was why many Populists described the city as crime infested and disliked
immigrants. He viewed populists as being hysterical, raving, and very nativist. He says that the
ideas expressed by the Populists made their way to the cities where professionals latched on to
them. These professionals he argued felt the pinch from immigrants and crime. These professionals
became the members of the Progressive movement. He viewed progressives as more practical, less
hysterical, and more patronizing. To Hofstadter the Populist and Progressive movements were
borne out of a status revolution in the United States. Hofstadter presents an interesting argument to
explain Populism and Progressivism. At the root of his argument is that people are more likely to
feel resentment when their status is at stake rather then when their income or jobs are. This is an

Efficiency Increasing System
EFFICIENCY INCREASING SYSTEM BY USING PREHEATING METHOD
METHODOLOGY
The concept of increasing the fuel efficiency of a petrol engine in this project, is to pre heat the
intake air which is flowing through the carburetor. The humidity in the atmospheric air affects the
petrol vapourisation in the carburettor. Therefore, by pre heating the inlet air to the carburettor for
a considerable amount, the vapourisation can be ease and in turn complete combustion is achieved.
Moreover by reducing the water vapour to the engine, the steam formation in the engine can be
reduced pitting of the engine cylinder, piston and exhaust pipe.
The pre heating of inlet air to the engine can be achieved by fixing a heat exchanger inside the

The air fuel ratio must change depending when maximum Economy or maximum power is
required. Also required air fuel ratio must be provided for transient conditions like starting, warm
up, and acceleration. Further in all conditions the consideration of minimum exhaust emission
should be kept in mind.
For automotive Engines there are three main areas of steady state operation requiring different air
fuel ratios.
1. Idling and Low Load
The no load running made of the Engine is called idling. During idling the air supply is
restricted by the nearly closed throttle and the suction pressure is very low. This condition of
low pressure gives rise to back flow of exhaust gases and air leakage from the various parts of the
Engine intake system. At idling and during part load operation back flow during the valve overlap
period occurs since the exhaust pressure is higher than the intake pressure. This increases the
amount of residual gases. The problem of dilution by residual gases becomes more pronounced at
low loads and idling because the exhaust temperature reduces with decreasing load, i.e., the density
and hence mass of the residual gases increase.
The amount of fresh charge brought in during idling is much less than that during full throttle
operation. The presence of exhaust gas tends to obstruct the contact of fuel and air particles a
requirement necessary for satisfactory combustion. The richening of mixtures increases

Analysis Of Madeleine L Engle s A Wrinkle In Time
In the novel A Wrinkle in Time written by Madeleine L engle had many elements including the

As the reader kept reading farther into the book, the conflict grew more and more. Having the

Essay on Explaination of Thermodynamics
A Layman s Explanation of Two Laws of Thermodynamics
Energy is encountered in many forms, such as mechanical, chemical (food and fuel), electrical,
nuclear, heat, and radiant (light). Energy has the ability to bring about change or to do work.
Thermodynamics is the study of energy. The field of thermodynamics studies the behavior of energy
flow in natural systems. These studies have rendered two laws of thermodynamics.
The first law of thermodynamics is also known as the law of conservation of energy. This law
suggests that energy can be transferred from one system to another in many forms. Also, it cannot
be created or destroyed, (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2012).
Ultimately, the total amount of energy available is a constant. Einstein s ... Show more content on

The laws of thermodynamics and how they are regarded in terms of energy are as such: the first
law pretty much indicates that you can t get something for nothing and the second law pretty
much indicates that you cannot break even; energy will be lesser than it was before the transfer.
The first law governs the quality of energy available from an energy conversion process, whereas
the second law governs the quality of the energy available. According to the first law, we will
never run out of energy, but according to the second law, we can run out of high quality (useful)
energy. The second law also tells us that high quality energy can never be used again. In terms
easily understood, not only can we not get something for nothing (the first law), but we cannot
ever break even in terms of energy quality (the second law). In this we can realize that we can
recycle matter, but we can never recycle high quality energy.

She later marries Freddy, as shown in the epilogue, although towards the end of the play she is

also gains a benefit, which would not be immediately obvious, of learning about the upper class
world. This is definitely a benefit, as it will be useful to her in the future for her translations of
other people s behaviour. She has learnt how upper class people treat their inferiors; My betters
that bully me and don t want me (p. 129). This can often show the measure of people; depending
on how they treat those less fortunate than themselves. In contrast, Eliza also encounters a
number of disadvantages working with Higgins. Firstly, she was taught badly in the manners of
upper class people, although she did actually learn correctly through Colonel Pickering, such as;
things about standing up, and taking off your hat (p. 122). She decided that Higgins bad manners
were his way (p. 122), as he behaved the same to everyone. However, she was taught badly by
him, as few upper class people would behave as he did. Secondly, a disadvantage of her
relationship with Higgins was Eliza s treatment. Higgins treated her as nothing more than a servant
when he was not teaching her phonetics, and using her to win his bet. He simply treated her just the

Analysis Of Les Demoiselles DAvignon
Les Demoiselles d Avignon Abstract expressionism Jackson Pollock Yif Chen Oct. 10th Les
Demoiselles d Avignon is probably the most representative painting that transits Picasso to
cubism. It is a radical break from the conventional representation that for so long has been
accepted in western culture because Picasso directly brings concepts like sexuality, female nude
bodies, and sexually transmitted diseases to form a palpable three dimensional fractured space.
Picasso depicts the opposition of pleasure, which is sensual eroticism with sarcasm in a brothel
located on a street named Avignon, takes women outward to audiences and engages with viewers.
This painting is an untraditional and bold confrontation with the conventional art, thus,
revolutionizing the entire art world. In this eye catching depiction, five prostitutes with five
different shocking positions cover all over the canvas. With different elements, like the African
mask, disproportional gesture, and Iberian sculpture, complexity and contraction are vividly
portrayed in this painting. Making use of aggressively nude bodies, Picasso boldly pulls
exaggerated and distorted expression into the canvass, and forms a sense of flatness by directing
an interior, closed, and almost claustrophobic space, because every prostitute is almost near the
edge of canvass, but at the same time, is perfectly enclosed by the space. There is no illusion or
visual space that creates depth; the whole canvas is filled with

My Love Of My Life
I started laughing like I d never laugh again in my life. A week ago, I sent a recording of my
voice for the audition for the Christmas duet and now I got the position for it. And my partner is
James Brown! He is the most charming person I could ever think of. His chocolate colored eyes
always sparkled, and his low manly voice would always melt my insides into a puddle of goo.
Finally, I have a chance to work with him; a chance to see my love of my life. The next day, I
went to the music department at my school with light, bouncy steps. When I went in the room
the people inside were staring at me, baffled. People whispered, as they gave me quick looks.
Some gave me cold stares. I sat on the nearest chair. The chair that was a little too small groaned
under my weight. The people looked at empty spaces, not knowing where to look at. Finally,
James came to break the uncomfortable silence. During break time I rushed to the bathroom.
When I came back, I could hear the people talking. What do we do with her? We can t put her on
stage, we ll be a laughing stock, said one. Why don t we put her in the backstage to sing and
have another prettier girl to lip sync on stage? It s the best way out of this, suggested another. But
who s going to tell her this? There was no answer. I couldn t listen anymore. I understood, they
couldn t put me on stage because of my appearance. There were hardly any clothes that fit me, my

Economics of Rough Diamonds Essay
Countries in Africa rely heavily on their exportation of diamonds along with oil for income. The
revenue from the exportation of rough diamonds has either helped countries develop or lead to
catastrophic events. The economic comparison of countries that sell rough diamonds can vary
greatly. Some African countries strive for economic independence where as others have faced years
of conflict and poverty. The economic and political oversight of rough diamonds compared
differently throughout countries in Africa. Two countries that are plentiful in rough diamond
resources are Botswanaand Angola. These two countries took two different economic paths.

The leaders of Botswana wanted to improve the standard of living for their people and bring
economic independence to a newly democratic country. This agreement also helped protect
Botswana from rebels invading their country for diamonds. Angola s Government was overseen
by Portugal up until the mid 1970 s. Angola wanted to gain independence from Portugal and the
Portuguese Government was unwilling to do so. A liberation movement started causing three
different unified forces to form. Those forces were the Popular Movement for the Liberation of
Angola (MPLA), National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), and the National Union
for the Total Independence (UNITA). These forces banded together to remove the Portuguese
government from power. By the late 1970 s, the MPLA was forming a new government under
their control. Even though, the MPLA gained control of the government, UNITA and FNLA
wanted to run the government also. The three once unified forces were now fighting amongst
each other for power and causing civil wars. Most of Angola s of rough diamonds were in areas
controlled by UNITA, which made it difficult for the MPLA to tap the rough diamonds as an
economic resource. UNITA on the other hand, saw this as a benefit to sell the illicit diamonds on
the black market. This non government organization took over the production and sales of Angola s

Essay The Ban-Yatra Pilgrimage
If you are ready to leave father and mother, and brother and sister, and wife and child and friend,
and never see them again... then you are ready for a walk. Henry David Thoreau (Haberman 12)
Introduction:
The pains of pilgrimage are deep and various. They are found not simply in the physical walking,
but also in the walking away from physical and mental comfort. In his book, Journey Through the
Twelve Forests, David L. Haberman describes in graphic detail the parting and participatory pains
as he journeys on the Ban Yatra pilgrimage. The Ban Yatra (literally forest journey ) is a 200 mile
circuit through the forests associated with Lord Krishna s activities around Braj, a town in central
India. Krishna is a deity favored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This paper will explore the necessary co presence of intense pain and sheer bliss in the Ban Yatra,
evaluating precisely how this tension is necessary in building the pilgrim s relationship with
Krishna. The pilgrim s relationship with and reverence for Shiva and Radha will serve as markers
in this outsider s account, guiding in the understanding of the nature of the pilgrim s pain and
consequent joy.
I. Entering a relationship with Krishna by following Shiva
Ironically, the Ban Yatra a celebration of Krishna begins at a Shiva temple. In many respects, the
ways of Shiva, the brooding mountain ascetic, are contradictory to the ways of Ban Yatra pilgrims.
The human condition is one of restlessness, there is a haunting lack which engenders the incessant
flight from on thing to another, Haberman observes (Hab 7). Ascestism, commonly associated
with the Hindu term tapas , seeks to alleviate the discontentment of this condition by self mastery
the controlling of one s kama, or desire. The ascetic devotes his or her energy to performing
austerities and fixating on one stable point of zero desire. By transcending the tumultuous play of
the world, the ascetic attempts to seek perfection. In contrast, Haberman explains, the religion of
Braj involves the cultivation of desire, not the elimination (Hab 28). The Ban Yatra pilgrim
believes that all of life is Krishna s play lila and that life s

Mongolia was once the largest empire that mankind had ever known. Mongolia is located in central
Asia between Siberia on the north and China on the south. The term Mongol came from the tribe of
Genghis Khan, who instaured the biggest empire ever known to mankind. Mongolia had to choose
between China and Russia, two powers that share borders with it. The Mongolian government
chooses to adopt the communist ideology of Russia. During the 1960s, tension between Russia and
china grew, with the soviet attempting to conduct preemptive nuclear strike at Chinese nuclear

The author of Mongolia s Nuclear Weapon Free Status: Concept and Practice by T Enkhsaikhan,
points out that article 4 of the two treaties signed with Russia and China stressed the importance
of keeping Mongolia a zone free of nuclear weapons and military influences of its neighbors. The
author mentions how Mongolia was a fervent supporter of disarmament in the article. Mongolia
is part of the G28 Group, a coalition of nonnuclear developing states, which call nuclear weapons
states to dismantle their total arsenals within a period of time. Another important remark is how
the author mentions that Mongolia was one of the first to sign and ratify the NPT and the
seventh country to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The main reason why
Mongolia is supporting the disarmament is mostly due to the tension that exists between China
and Russia, two neighboring countries with nuclear weapons. By freeing its soil from nuclear
armament, no countries should deploy nuclear weapons in its territories. By officially declaring
Mongolia NWFZ, Mongolia has a better chance to transform its territory on a front war if Russia
and China had to go war. III. Prevention of an Arms Race in Outer Space The Non Aligned

Conflicting Perspectives
Intro: When determining ones perspective, you must take into account a person s cultural, social
background as well as their personal experiences along with many other factors. Although these
factors are so important, human nature ultimately dictates that bias and self interest contribute to
these perspectives eventuating in conflict with another. These ideals are represented through the
character construction and narrative style displayed in David Gutterson s Snow Falling On

In his knowingly wrongful accusation that Tom Robinson, a black man, raped his daughter,
Ewell represents the dark side of the south: ignorance, poverty and hate filled racial prejudice.
His self interested and bias perspective parallels that of Etta Heine. Self interest is reflected by
Mr Ewell when he states somebody told me just now they thought you believed Tom Robinson
and I said, you wrong , The spiteful and threatening body language of Mr Ewell reflects his
desire to have Atticus support his perspective of events. The characterisation of Ewell depicts
the racial prejudice that is prominent in their society; he represents how a person s racial
background can affect the perspective of others. Like Nels Gudmundsson, Atticus Finch defends
Tom Robinson in court. A highly respected man, depicted as being the moral backbone of
Maycomb. The conscious that makes him so admirable ultimately causes his falling out with the
people of Maycomb as he goes against the town s comfortable ingrained racial prejudice when he
agrees to defend Tom Robinson. Atticus is costumed in a way to show he has power within the
community but is also equal. The body language used also conveys how he is a gentle but also
committed to justice with his rigid strong stance. Varying camera angles are used to enhance
Atticus s sense of equality with mid shots but also the authority he holds with low camera angles
that convey his respect and power. At the end of Tom s trial,

Sacrifice Of Iphigenia
Iphigenia has been apart of many mythological stories, showing the harshness of people. The
myth of Iphigenia was said to be that she was sacrificed for the mistake of her father,
Agamemnon. He was setting out to fight in the battle of Troy. The story of Iphigenia represents
the sadness and sorrow felt for her and the identification of the struggle she experienced. Both
The Sacrifice Of Iphigenia by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Iphigenia by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
use the myth of Iphigenia to indicate that inhumane, egocentric people will sacrifice others in
order to defend themselves. After analyzing the poem Iphigenia, it can be acknowledged that
Alfred Lord Tennyson takes in deep consideration of Iphigenia s pain. This can be exhibited on
line 1 of the poem as Iphigenia says I was cut off from hope in that sad place (Analysis). The tone
of the poem could be utilized as woe and upsetting, establishing the fact Iphigenia is in distress
and needs help. There is little hope, contemplating the idea nobody will appear to help (Analysis).
The quote The stern black bearded kings, with wolfish eyes, waiting to see me die, is used in
terms of her sacrifice, exterminating the idea of hope for Iphigenia for the time being (Analysis).

Madama Butterfly Sexism
Sorrow is a part of being human. Losing a loved one, giving up a child, having to confront reality
all are factors a person may encounter in their life. However, when a girl has to experience the
three in the span of five years, things can take a turn for the worst. In Giacomo Puccini s Madama
Butterfly, Butterfly is an ex geisha engaged to a lieutenant in the United States Navy. Despite clear
signs that he is only using her, Butterfly adamantly believes that he is a good man who truly wants
to start a familywith her. This wishful thinking comes back to hurt Butterfly, in which her husband

Puccini depicts Butterfly as an object of pleasure through not only Pinkerton s eyes but the
matchmaker s as well. Goro uses Butterfly for his own selfish deeds, viewing her more of a profit
than a person. To him, all he sees is a pretty face worthy of making a couple yen. However, this was
not an uncommon mindset in early twentieth century Japan. Like most other countries, Japan began
the 1900s with a heavy chauvinistic mindset. Employers tended to hire its female representatives
based on their appearance rather than ability or character. Some jobs even posted signs requesting
that only pretty girls apply ( Confronting Japan s Long Forgotten History of Sexism online).
Misogyny was prevalent in the eastern country, which is an unfortunate yet unavoidable
circumstance Butterfly had to run into. Like mentioned, while Goro exploits Butterfly for money,
Pinkerton sees her more as a fun way to immerse himself in another culture. Despite the sacrifices
Butterfly makes for her husband, such as convert to Christianity and risk disownment from her
family, Pinkerton dismisses them to focus on her sex appeal. This is further emphasized how, after
their first night together, the lieutenant quickly flees to focus on his other interests. Puccini uses
Goro and Pinkerton to set the stage for further tragedy within Butterfly s life. Both men have major
and unfortunately negative effects in the series of events in the opera; they continuously use her for
her own gain without giving much thought to her own thoughts and well being. Puccini depicts
Butterfly as loyal yet stubborn in spite of Pinkerton s sexist nature and Goro s eye for money. This
comes to be her ultimate downfall in the next element of misfortune: personal

Journaling Is A Common Practice
An old adage says that thoughts disentangle themselves when passed through the lips and across
the fingertips (Whitney 260). Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is
journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It
isn t confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible
verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another.
Journaling has been noted throughout the ages as being beneficial in many lives and providing a
source of hope for many, even in the most difficult times, though some others may find it harmful.

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us (ESV, Ps.
62.6 8). The Psalms were like David s personal journal. It documents his feelings, mainly towards
God, and gives a commentary of the thoughts running through his mind. It clearly shows David
questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and
times of significant triumph in his life.
Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and
people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the
most revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today,
was even known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions
(Whitney 251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim).
Also, the Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals
themselves. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The
fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue:
diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in
faith. When they opened these books, they set down lapses of morality with appropriate
expressions of faith (qtd. in Whitney 253 254). All of these people kept a journal

Stress And Its Effect On The Body
Stress and its Role in the Body
People have very different ideas with respect to their definition of stress. Probably the most
common is, physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension . Another popular definition of stress
is, a condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that demands exceed the personal
and social resources the individual is able to mobilize. (stress.org). Most use stress as a negative
condition that causes people to breakdown and become frustrated. This is totally misunderstood,
stress is actually a reaction to a stimulus that causes dysfunction in our mental and physical state.
People experience stress in a variety of ways such as in school, sports, competitive activities, work,
and many more. The stress builds up and affects the body emotionally, physically, mentally, and
behaviorally.
Stress has emotional effects on the body and can cause people to do things they wish not to. The
emotional effects of stress come in so many different forms such as bipolar illness, depression,
anxiety disorders and personality changes. People feel overwhelmed and pressured in doing great
things when dealing with emotional stress. According to stress shack, It can increase the incidence

Persuasive Essay Against Euthanasia
Euthanasia
You only get one life. It s actually your duty to live it as fully as possible. (Moyes, Jojo. Me
before you. Penguin Books, 2016). Life is a celestial object, and we are obliged to handle our lives
with prudence. Abdicating your life is vile and dissolute. Assisting in the termination of one s own
life is even more absurd; therefore, it should be hindered. Euthanasia should be stated illegal and
prohibited throughout the whole world, for it leads to disadvantageous long term consciences
including distrusting the medical field and giving more power to doctors than what they deserve.
Usually, those who demand euthanasia are pressured by those around them including doctors, and
they are deceived by their depression.
Euthanasia devastate patients trust in the medical field. If your teacher gave you the choice
whether to do your homework or not, what will you choose? Of course, you won t do your
homework because it is the easier choice. Human beings are inevitable to pick the obstacle free
route; therefore, if doctors were given the choice to simply kill people whose cases seem
unpromising, they will select this choice. Doctors will be discouraged to research and create new
medicines. What is the point? I can just painlessly and effortlessly kill them . Cures that could

A Comparison Of Ancient Greek And Roman Civilization
Throughout History many civilizations have rose and fallen but we will be analyzing Greek
and Roman Civilization. Many people view the Romans as a copy cat empire compared to the
Greek because they modeled so many things after the Greeks, for myself, it would be correct to
assume this were true. At first during the colonial age or era, Romans and Greek heavily
influenced one another which one had engaged in trade at the Black Sea the surrounding
Mediterranean areas. Trading between the two nations was very successful due to the safety of
Roman Military presence. Over time, the Romans had adapted many of the Greeks practices
and believes. This is one of the main reasons that Roman could be seen as a copy cat of Ancient
Greece. Ancient Greece and Rome both had used agriculture. However, Rome did not have much
problems with production of food through agriculture like the Greeks did. Both of them had
produced products like wheat, but the former, Greece, had failed to produce a good amount of
wheat because Romans had far superior farming techniques. Instead of having a good production
of wheat, the Greeks had substituted wheat for olive oil hence why many people think of olive oil
coming from Greece. Both nations had heavily relied on slaves as well. How could a nation
become so successful with running the government, thinking about important ideals, or enjoying
themselves if they had to worry about how they were going to get fed? Roman slaves were a little

sexual orientations, and faith traditions. Whether it relates to race, class, religion or any other
category where one resides in the dominant group, it is tempting not to become oppressive and fail
to show mutual respect to the diverse cultures and beliefs of other groups. Furthermore, as
educational leaders, we must be equipped with knowledge around policies related to the above
mentioned, so that we can enforce such and build upon those that need refining.
In reflecting on religious expression and school prayer, it is important to realize the current legal

Any school promotion or endorsement of a student s private religious activity is unconstitutional.
There have been various acts across schools within this country to discriminate and demean students
within schools because they follow faith traditions different than that of the dominant group. Thus,
it is important to realize that though as a school body one cannot endorse or promote one religion or
faith tradition over another, as educational leaders we also should not engage in discrimination and
disrespect for faith believes that do not align with ours or allow other students and staff to engage in
such. Rather we must work to promote multicultural acceptance and mutual respect, celebrating the
rich diversity among all individuals and groups.
Landmark Cases
There are three landmark cases most relevant to the discussion on religious expression and school
prayer. Engle v. Vitale is a case where the Court held that recitation of a prayer composed by the
New York State Board of Regents, which was to be said in the presence of a teacher at the
beginning of school each day, was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause.
School District of Abington Township v. Schempp presents a case where the Court held that
reading the Bible for sectarian purposes and reciting the Lord s Prayer in public schools during
normal hours were unconstitutional; however, the Court asserted that the Bible could be read as

Moral Character In The Great Gatsby
The Roaring Twenties was a gilded age. The flourishing economy and the lavish and carefree
mentality shrouds the immorality and corruption. The American Dream progressively becomes
tainted by materialism and individuals covet money to climb up the social ladder. Class divisions
strictly divided society and class disparity becomes apparent among the wealthy during the
formation of the old and new money . F. Scott Fitzgeraldincorporates the elements of the 1920 s in
Jay Gatsbyof The Great Gatsby. During the course of The Great Gatsby, Gatsby becomes the most
immoral character because Gatsby is willing to let go of his morals to ascend the social ladder.
Gatsby becomes the least moral character from his involvement with Meyer Wolfsheim. From his
encounter with Wolfsheim, Gatsby stepped into the business world. To demonstrate this,
Wolfsheim tells Nick, I raised him up out of nothing, right out the gutter... Right off he did some
work for a client of mine up to Albany. We were so thick like that in everything He held up two
bulbous fingers, always together. I wonder if this partnership had included the World Series
transaction in 1919 (Fitzgerald, 179). According to Gatsby, Wolfsheim is the individual that fixed
the World Series. Since Wolfshiem stated that Gatsby and Wolfsheim are always together, Nick
wonders whether Gatsby had any involvement in the baseball game. Gatsby is evidently involved in
shady business, Wolfsheim is a gangster that decorates himself

The Spread of Soviet-Backed Communism Across Eastern...
The Spread of Soviet Backed Communism Across Eastern Europe after 1945 In seeking to
provide an answer to the question, Was the spread of Soviet backed communism inevitable
across Eastern Europe after 1945?, I would like to point to the words of a contemporary
specialist. At the end of World War II, R. R. Betts, the Masaryk Professor of Central European
History at London University, asserted that much of the revolution in central and eastern Europe
is native and due to the efforts of the peoples and their own leaders . . . [making it] clear that
even if the Soviet Union had not been so near and so powerful, revolutionary changes would have
come at the end of so destructive and subversive a war as that which ended... Show more content on

Yet there are many such cases within the purview of this question. However, I do not completely
disagree with the thesis of inevitability of Soviet backed communism or at least some form of
authoritarianism. Thus, in the first section of this paper, I will air much of the support for that
assertion and conclude that it was highly likely Soviet backed communism would eventually
accomplish what it did. However, in a second section, I will argue that this outcome was hardly a
fait accompli in 1945. Neither the subtleties of Eastern Europe s possible economic relations with
the West in the form of the Marshall plan nor the lack of uniformity of the processes by which
different states became Soviet satellites bear out the thesis of inevitability. The main strands of the
argument for the inevitability of both authoritarianism and Soviet backed communism follow: The
liberal democracies established in Eastern Europe after World War I were enfeebled by many
factors, so much so that by the beginning of World War II, authoritarianism was already the norm.
Thus, the post war step to further authoritarianism was not very large. The Wilsonian attempt at
creating nations produced conditions hardly less destabilizing than those that had characterized the
pre 1914 period, chiefly because of the sheer number of different ethnicities with the vehement
desire . . . to secure revision of the post war settlement (Lewis 28, 30). The

Essay about Crack’s Effect on New York City
Crack s Effect on New York City
In the summer of 1985, New York City was introduced to the drug crack. The ensuing seventeen
years have culminated into some of the most turbulent, and crime ridden years in the history of
New York City. Crack is the street name for a form of cocaine introduced in the mid 1980s. Crack
is smoked, rather then sniffed through the nose, or injected, which are all other ways to use
cocaine. Users of the drug inhale the vapors that are given off when the crack is heated (Berger
pg.20). Crack cannot burn, and in order to give off the drugs vapors it must be heated to a very
high temperature. After the crack has been heated the user will proceed to inhale the vapors. The
drug will then pass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Jeffery Rosecan, director of the Cocaine Abuse Treatment Program at Colombia Presbyterian
Medical Center often describes crack addicts, often called crack heads as follows, They first start to
suffer personality changes especially paranoia, then their lives start to fall apart, along with their
relationships and they move into a life of emotional extremes, crime, illness, and possibly death.
Crack users range from the Wall Street stockbroker to a homeless person living in Central Park,
but by and large this evil drug called crack had its biggest impact on New York s inner city
minority population. A New York doctor, Dr. Mark Gold who is the person who set up and
helps run the not for profit organization called 800 COCAINE, a hotline set up to help addicts
and perspective users answer questions about the drug and also offers counseling and drug
intervention services; suggested that his findings showed that, occasional users of crack quickly
increased, the amount and frequency of crack use until total dependency was achieved. Men and
women who were once law abiding citizens and honest people were now robbing and stealing to
pay for the drug, and many who once enjoyed good health were now suffering from a variety of
physical and mental aliments springing from their cocaine abuse. Crack brings along with its
amazing high, some ominous dangers. Dr. Robert Maslansky is the director of New York City s

Tar Sands, By Jon Brownell
Tar Sands EssayJon Brownell The Alberta Tar Sands are large deposits of bitumen,a sticky,
black and viscous semi solid form of petroleum.(Merriam Webster) The bitumen is extracted
from the earth and separated from materials that are not petroleum. This process consumes both
water from the Athabasca River drainage basin and energy. While emissions from the water
used are low the airborne pollutants contain more than 350 kilograms of cancer causing
chemicals every four months.(Kelly) Also, bitumen is one of the least efficient power sources
in the world.(Rapier) The Tar Sands are dangerous for people to live near, are environmentally
damaging and unsustainable and are an inefficient source of power compared to other sources
available in Canada. While the Tar Sands are currently good for the canadian economy, in the
long term they will cost us more than they make. The content of cancer causing chemicals like
PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) is twice as high as the standard recommended by the
national oceanic and atmospheric administration in the United States. These levels have been
observed to cause liver cancer in fish. (Timoney 68) Fish from Lake Athabasca have been found
with deformities other than liver cancer, like lumps or bumps. Cancer levels in people who live in
Fort Chipewyan are much higher than in other parts of the country.(McLachlan 17) The

Katherine Mansfield The Fly
In the short story, The Fly written by Katherine Mansfield in 1922, we are taken into the life of
an old boss who still remains strong and at the head of his company. Through the boss s actions
and expressions we can see he is still pained by the loss of his son. However, through the illustrated
story, we can see that even though the bossmourns the loss of his son, he is slowly moving through
the grieving process that the fly in the story symbolizes. Through the actions of the bossin the story,
we can still see how he misses his son dearly. While Mr. Woodifield is examining the boss s new
remodeled office, he notices an old picture sitting on the boss s desk. The picture present on the
boss s desk is that of his son who die in war. The story states, It has been sitting there for over six
years. Even though the room is remodeled, the photograph remains in plain sight of his office,
which can support the fact that the boss misses his son. The boss recently just remodeled his
office, showing he wanted a change in perspective. The boss in fact enjoys to brag about his new
renovations when he says, New carpet New furniture, Electric heating! This quote shows to the
extent of how much the boss has redesigned his room, yet the picture of his son is still visible in
his office. The photograph shows how the boss still laments over his son s deatheven though six
years have passed. Mr. Woodifield mentions his family visiting the grave of his own boy, Reggie;

Violent Video Games And Aggression
Abstract
Past studies have shown a link between violent video games and an increase in aggressive
behaviors. The intent of the present study was to further investigate these findings. It was
predicted that players who engage in violent video games would show higher rates of aggression.
Participants (N = 20) were asked to complete two short surveys, the Buss and Perry (1992)
aggression questionnaire and Anderson and Dill s (2000) video game exposure scale. The results of
the study did not support the prediction, nor did they corroborate the findings from previous
research. Identifying the relationship between violent video games and aggression is rather
complex. Earlier studies have shown varying results; however, much of the research has shown a
positive correlation between video game violence and real world aggression.

Exposure to Violent Video Games and the Relationship to Aggressive Behavior
For more than two decades, researchers have been studying video game violence and its link to
aggressive behavior (Anderson, 2003). The compilation of research has shown consistent results
indicating that prolonged exposure to violent video games is positively correlated with high levels
of aggressive behavior (American Psychological Association [APA], 2015). The objective of the
present study was to investigate whether playing violent video games is associated with real world
aggressive behavior. Banduras

History of Insurance Business
In Ancient World
Insurance has been an institution of human society for thousands of years, having been by
Chinese and Babylonian traders as long ago as the second millennium BC. The Babylonian
developed a system which was recorded in the famous Code of Hammurabi C. 1750 BC, and
practiced by early Mediterranean sailing merchants. If a merchant receives a loan to fund his
shipment, he would pay the lender an additional sum in exchange for the lender s guarantee to
cancel the loan should the shipment be stolen.

Insurance in India
Life Insurance
In India, even from the days of Indus Valley civilization, the provision of taking care of the
dependents of those dying was practiced. Further, the concept of joint family system in itself is a
method of taking care of the dependents of those who die prematurely. In Manu Manav Dharma
Shasthra there are mentions about taking care of the dependents of those dying as also taking care
of people during old age. The term Yogakshema is found in Rig Veda thereby indicating the
existence of some type of joint family system even 300 years ago. In the times of Buddha, mention
about the existence of Burial System is available, thereby indicating the concept of mutual welfare,
which is nothing but the Life Insurance in action.
With the establishment of the Oriental Life Insurance Company, a British firm in Kolkata, the
business of Indian insurance started in the year 1818. Later on, Bombay Mutual Assurance Society
Limited was started in 1870, following by Oriental Life Assurance Company, Bharat, Empire of

share the same vision of marrying someone. It was shocking to him, that he ended up marrying a
Japanese woman because he never imagined marrying someone that wasn t Mexican. When he was
twenty years old, he fell in lovewith a girl that he knew his grandma would be concerned about.
Soto told his mom about the woman and how she was the one for him and the more he talked
about her the more his mom seemed to be worried. That s when he realized that his mother
wanted him to marry someone from his own social class. Everyone agreed that indeed he wasn t
good enough for his fiancee. One day Carolyn took Soto to her home to meet her parents. Soto
was nervous, until he sees her house and how alike their houses looked. He acknowledges how

they implemented Malcolm X philosophy of self defense because during the time The Black

which meant that Black people were being killed at random with no reason. Before The Black

Data, Information, And Knowledge And How They Are...
Students Name: Marsil Hana
1.Describe the terms Data, Information, and Knowledge and how they are related to each other.
Data: is a collection of facts and studies, it can be thought of as a description of the world. For
example, when I say I have brown hair, hazel eyes and live in Chicago, those are all data.
Information: information is much more refined data, because it evolved to the point where it can
be useful and helpful to study a certain case or form of analysis.
Knowledge: it is basically what we know, maybe insights and facts that we ve learned in our life,
or some experience that we applied to data and information.
In my opinion, they are related to each other because everything started from facts and our
knowledge on specific topics and facts, and it all evolved to information and helpful data.
2.Describe 5 components of the database system and why they are important part of the system?
1 Data: it s very important because most companies and organizations generate, store and process
large amounts of data.
2 Hardware: it s also an important component because we store our data in the storage devices like
CD, DVD, floppy disk, and all the important parts like the processor and memory.
3 Software: it consists the DBMS that acts as a bridge between the user and DB. It also interacts
with the user through application and programs.
4 People: users are the human beings that need the data and information to help them with their
daily lives and work by interacting

Analysis Of The Miraculous Mandarin
The Miraculous Mandarin is a one acted ballet composed by BГ©la BartГіk. BГ©la BartГіk is a
Hungarian composer, who was born on March 25, 1881 and is now one of the most important
composers of the 20th century. He grew up with his parents and sister, ErzsГ©bet in a small town
called Nagyszentmiklós, Austria Hungary. Then moved to Nagyszölös when his father, Béla
BartГіkdied. When BГ©la was 28 he lived with his first wife Marta Zeigler and his son BГ©la jr.
After 15 years of marriage he divorced and married a Ditta PГЎsztory, a piano student, who was 19
at the time and he was 42. He then had another son named PГ©ter. BГ©la once was an amazing
composer, pianist and folk song collector, who died on September 26, 1945. He learned the piano
with his mother, Paula Voit and afterwards went to study with IstvГЎn ThomГЎn. He also
composed under JГЎnos Koessier at The Royal Academy of Musicin Budapest. His parents knew
he had a special eye for composing because at age four he learned how to play 40 different songs
on the piano with no professional music lessons and at nine years old he would make up small,
little dance pieces for his whole family to watch. Before BГ©la was a famous composer, in 1907
he took his first few steps in his career as a piano teacher in The Royal Academy for more then
25 years. In 1917 he working as a composer. He composed one of his first major orchestral work
in 1903. He named this piece Kossuth after Lajos Kossuth, a beloved childhood, Hungarian Hero.
But after The Fine Arts Commission Competition, BГ©la took a little break from composing. He
wrote very little for about two to three years. Instead of composing he went on an expedition to
collected folk music. But the outbreak of World War 1 stop him from his search for Hungarian
music, so he was forced to return to composing. He made a comeback with The Wooden Prince
and the String Quartet No. 2 which were inspired by Debussy. After another year he came out
with a new ballet called The Miraculous Mandarin. It s a story about prostitution, robbery and
murder. It was premiered in 1926 in Cologne, Germany, the audience were in shook of the

Acids And Bases Lab Report
Acids and bases are very important. We clean with them, we eat them, and we use them to help
in chemistry. The ions who are the cause of acidic properties is H+ ions, or protons, and for basic
properties, it s the OH ions, or hydroxide ions. all of that is based on a theory called the
dissociation of water (which is H2O H+ + OH ). So the more H+ there is in a solution, the more
acidic the solution is, and the less H+ there is, the more basic it is. That is why there is H+ in
solution factors on the pH scale. The more protons present at one time means the pH scale
decreases, and the H+ present goes down. The pH scales job is to measure the acidand baselevels of
a substance and how strong they are. The numbers on the scale go from 1 to 14, with 1 containing
the most hydrogen ions and 14 having the least.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This is my motivation for becoming a Music Therapist. This profession ties two of my strong interests as I have been a musician under development for 7 years. I strongly believe and have been told that my personal qualities are exactly what it takes to work in therapy. I am patient, respectful, responsible and supporting. These four qualities are essential when working with vulnerable adults, adolescents, and children. I believe that this is an exciting opportunity because I will be able to share my gathered knowledge on Autism. After completing the Postgraduate course at Anglia Ruskin University, I am eager to start work with the NHS. • 4. Examples Of Structuralism In I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud I am putting to use a structuralist view upon the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud because it can be related to with simpleness, put down to the fact that it is positioned in the lyrical genre. Structuralism is a theory in which all elements of human culture are thought to be part of a system of signs. Robert Scholes demarcated structuralismas a reaction towards despair and modernism (Scholes, Robert. Structuralism in Literature: An Introduction, 1975). I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is a poem that commemorates the utmost beauty of nature to such a degree that the poet believes it to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As previously stated, structuralism is a theory in which all elements of human culture are thought to be part of a system of signs. Structuralists are concerned with issues such as form and genre. The reason why I chose to apply a structuralist perspective upon William Wordsworth s poem is due to the fact that that it can be easily interacted with because it is positioned in the lyrical genre. The rhyming scheme is in the form ABABCC. The rhyming couplet evident at the end of each stanza creates an unpretentious break caused by the addition of a new stanza. As a result, the final line of teach stanza contains an additional sense of emphasis. The final line of the poem mentions the show and conveys images of dancing daffodils, a long lasting impression discussed by Wordsworth. The meter of this poem is an iambic tetrameter. The meter creates a rhythm with a musical, song like quality, to which the daffodils may dance. Wordsworth also employs consonance and alliteration to create the sense of rhythm. The form of a poem is of utmost importance to structuralist critics. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is twenty four lines long and it features four stanzas with six lines each. In each individual stanza there is a perceptible pattern the first line rhymes with the third line and the second line rhymes with the fourth line. The stanzas finish with the inclusion of a rhyming couplet. By concentrating the first three stanzas on the lake experience and the final on the memory of that experience, Wordsworth amalgamates the content of the poem. It is interesting to note that despite the obvious fact that I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is built as a sonnet although it is a lyrical poem. Wordsworth employs figurative language such as comparisons, personification, epithets and metaphors so as to express his feelings to the reader. As a sub genre, I Wandered Lonely as ... • 6. Finding Nemo Archetypes Hero s Journey: Finding Nemo What is the typical idea of a hero? Sure, there may be Marvel Heroes, but do they fit the archetype of a The Hero s Journey? In the movie Finding Nemo directed by Andrew Stanton, a small fearful clownfish goes on a life changing adventure after his son had been taken by a scuba diver. Marlin s journey has its ups and downs but it fits the pattern of the hero s journey archetype almost perfectly. Joseph Campbell said, A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a religion of supernatural wonder. Fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won, the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow men (Campbell). Marlin does exactly that. He goes from the ordinary world into the sacred world in search for his treasure, his son, Nemo. First, Marlin s journey begins with the call to adventure . The call is when the hero is asked to leave the ordinary world to reach a specific goal. Our hero s call begins when Nemo s new friends dare him to go touch the butt. Nemo gets taken by a scuba diver and this leaves everybody speechless and panicking. This moment is the spark of Marlin s Journey. After trying to chase the scuba diver, Marlin almost had... Managing an organization s financial operation requires knowledge of the economy and ways to maximize revenue. For any organization to operate on a daily basis adequate cash flow is required. Without cash management the organization will be unable to function because there is no cash readily available in case of inconsistencies in the market. Cash is also needed to keep the cycle of the company s operations going. Many organizations have maximized the use of cash on hand by effective cash management techniques and the use of short term financing. This paper will discuss various cash management techniques and short term financing methods used by organizations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the business world companies are always trying to maximize their earning potential by strategically investing in short term financing. In terms of finance short term may mean months or even a couple of years. The type of finance method that is used is contingent on the specific needs of the corporation. These methods include trade credit, bank credit, financing through commercial paper, foreign borrowing, and the use of collateral, accounts receivable financing, inventory financing and hedging to reduce borrowing risk. Trade credit is the practice of purchasing goods now and paying for them later. Trade credit is widely used and is the least expensive and most convenient form of short term financing (McHugh, McHugh Nickels, 1999, p. 573). When a company purchases goods on credit an invoice is received outlining the terms of repayment. An invoice contains terms such as 2/10, net 30. The total bill is due in 30 days, but the supplier has extended a discount if the amount is paid in full within 10 days. Finance managers use the information on the invoice to perform an analysis to find out if the discount is worth paying the invoice in advance or if there is opportunity for more earning potential if invested elsewhere. Banks issue credits to organizations seeking funds for there ventures. The bank usually prefers a self liquidating loan in which the use of funds will ensure a built in or automatic repayment scheme (Block Hirt, 2005, Chapter 8, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Persuasion And Anne Elliot In the novel Persuasion, Anne Elliot was the second daughter of Sir Walter Elliot and was the heroine in this novel by Jane Austen. Anne had two sisters named Elizabeth and Mary. Elizabeth was the oldest daughter and was much like her father, being cold and selfish. Unfortunately, Elizabeth was her father s favorite daughter. Mary was the youngest daughter who was married to a young man named Charles Musgrove. Anne, being the middle child, was sweet and shy about her intelligence and was ignored by her father and sister Elizabeth. The Austen children grew up being encouraged to learn by extensive reading from their father s library and to be creative thinkers. Jane and her sister were sent to a boarding school so they would have a formal education. Jane started to write romantic fiction as a young teen. After Jane s father died, she and her sister had financial difficulties much like the Elliot s did in Persuasion. Jane Austen s life seems to be closely related to many of the situations and characters in the lives of the female characters she writes about in her novels. Jane was also persuaded by her father and a female mentor to not to love a man because they believed he could not provide for her financially and he was not of a high social status. This situation can be compared to Anne Elliot s character when she was persuaded by her father and mentor, Lady Russell, to give up her love of and engagement to Captain Fredrick Wentworth, a British naval officer. They found him to be an unsuitable choice because of his lack of money and connections in society. Jane Austen wrote about real life issues of manner, upbringing of children, morality, education, and marriagein a society of high social status and position. Jane Austen s family was well respected members of their community, much like the Elliot family. Jane s status as a single woman did not upset her like other single women. The lack of a husband allowed her the freedom to concentrate on her novels, and gave her the opportunity to be a great observer of the actions of those around her, especially in the study of complex classes and gender relationships which were an important part of life in the early nineteenth century English ... • 10. Gettysburg Address Speech Analysis Past president, Barack Obama once stated Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek . This quote means that if we keep pursuing this concept that somebody else is going to do our needed work in the future, then we as a country, society, and even world, will never world, will never be able to take the right steps to be successful. We are the generation that the previous one spoke of, we need to step up to the plate and take action. Three ideas that came into being that relate to this quote are the Gettysburg addressspeech, a passage in the novel Me: Stories of My Life , and the Black Lives Matter protest. To start off with, a historical event that related to my original quote is a section of the Gettysburg Address speech. President Lincoln gave one of the best written speeches to this date, and one particular section states It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far nobly advances. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us . The Gettysburg Address speech almost directly relates to Barack Obamas quote because they both share the same concept of change. Lincoln talks about unfinished work , and now they can t forget about the past struggles because those events were what brought them to their current situation. Even though they still lost lives, and had an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was the first time a lot of people had ever heard of the bravery and sacrifice of the American Indians during World War 2. Of course this is a Hollywood so liberties are taken for dramatic purposes but it served its purpose of exposing the masses to the invaluable contribution to the war effort. The government by this time had, had a long track record of horrible abuse to the American Indians, but that did not stop them from enlisted and making the same sacrifices as everyone else. Sadly the treatment of the American Indians would still be the same as far as the government was concerned. Indians did not want equality with whites at the price of losing group identification. It was a tremendously difficult adjustment; more than for white America, which had known modem war and mobilization before. But in the process, Native Americans became Indian Americans, not just American Indians (Morgan). Declaration Of The Rights Of Man Essay Many revolutionaries and peasants insist on revoking Article 17 of the Declaration of the Rights of Man, which declares that property is a sacred and inviolable right. The National Assembly has already seized and sold much of the land of the Catholic Church, and even peasants have taken thousands of manor houses. The most extreme and wild radicals seek to eliminate all rights to property. If these radicals and revolutionaries succeed in eliminating a right to property and in confiscating all of the wealth in France, they will eventually cripple France s intellectual creativity. Burke notes that Title 1 of the pending constitution guarantees the inviolability of property or a just and prior indemnity for that of which a legally established public necessity may demand the sacrifice. How can the inviolability of property possibly be reconciled with the National Assembly grabbing the lands of the nobility and the Catholic Church? Burke also goes on to wonder what will happen next if the state begins to take away one institution or person s property. In his writing, Burke states It is not the confiscation of our church property from this example in France that I dread, though I think this would be no trifling evil. The great source of my solicitude is, lest it should ever be considered in England as the policy of a state, to seek a resource in confiscations of any kind; or that any one description of citizens should be brought to regard any of the others as their proper prey. • 14. U.s. Army s 516th Signal Brigade Introduction With each passing year, current technologies continue to evolve or change while new technology or innovations emerge that, in some instances, profoundly change markets, societies, or ways of living. For all organizations, to include the military, the persistent change of technology means that organizations must also evolve and change accordingly. Based on research by Accenture s Paul Nunes and Tim Breene in 2011, only 7 percent of companies that cease to grow ever survive over the long term, which serves as a strong warning for any organization about the need to change. In addition to technological change, the military faces many other challenges as well. The most significant challenges include budgetary constraints, mandated drawdowns in personnel strength, and numerous mission demands across the globe. This is the greater context facing the U.S. Army s 516th Signal Brigadebased in Hawaii. The 516th Signal Brigade consists of 2,500 soldiers and federal employees responsible for the installation, operation, and defense of tactical and strategic information technology (IT) networks for the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater (from Japan to Alaska). Every day the 516th Signal Brigade must defend against cyber attacks, provide IT service support to many thousands of users, and remain prepared to deploy quickly its mobile communications teams in the event of conflict or a natural disaster. Essay about Richard Hofstadter s The Age of Reform Richard Hofstadter s The Age of Reform In 1955, Richard Hofstadter wrote his Pulitzer Prize winning book The Age of Reform, about the Gilded Age. Hofstadter s arguments about the Populist and Progressive movements and their origins started debate and renewed scholarship on the Populist and Progressive movements. Many historians did not agree with Hofstadter s arguments and published their own papers stating their conclusions based on their own research. This scenario occurs all the time in the history field. He argues that for the early part of the history of the United States the culture of the nation centered on the farmer and the agrarian myth. The agrarian myth is that the independent family farmer was what drove the nation. Hofstadter states that framers enjoyed a certain privileged status in society. He argues that by the late 1870s this image or status was in decline and that farmers began to resent this loss of status. He asserts that the Populist movement was born out of this resentment. He explains that this resentment towards city dwellers those whose opinion of farming was declining was why many Populists described the city as crime infested and disliked immigrants. He viewed populists as being hysterical, raving, and very nativist. He says that the ideas expressed by the Populists made their way to the cities where professionals latched on to them. These professionals he argued felt the pinch from immigrants and crime. These professionals became the members of the Progressive movement. He viewed progressives as more practical, less hysterical, and more patronizing. To Hofstadter the Populist and Progressive movements were borne out of a status revolution in the United States. Hofstadter presents an interesting argument to explain Populism and Progressivism. At the root of his argument is that people are more likely to feel resentment when their status is at stake rather then when their income or jobs are. This is an interesting ... Efficiency Increasing System EFFICIENCY INCREASING SYSTEM BY USING PREHEATING METHOD METHODOLOGY The concept of increasing the fuel efficiency of a petrol engine in this project, is to pre heat the intake air which is flowing through the carburetor. The humidity in the atmospheric air affects the petrol vapourisation in the carburettor. Therefore, by pre heating the inlet air to the carburettor for a considerable amount, the vapourisation can be ease and in turn complete combustion is achieved. Moreover by reducing the water vapour to the engine, the steam formation in the engine can be reduced pitting of the engine cylinder, piston and exhaust pipe. The air fuel ratio must change depending when maximum Economy or maximum power is required. Also required air fuel ratio must be provided for transient conditions like starting, warm up, and acceleration. Further in all conditions the consideration of minimum exhaust emission should be kept in mind. For automotive Engines there are three main areas of steady state operation requiring different air fuel ratios. 1. Idling and Low Load The no load running made of the Engine is called idling. During idling the air supply is restricted by the nearly closed throttle and the suction pressure is very low. This condition of low pressure gives rise to back flow of exhaust gases and air leakage from the various parts of the Engine intake system. At idling and during part load operation back flow during the valve overlap period occurs since the exhaust pressure is higher than the intake pressure. This increases the amount of residual gases. The problem of dilution by residual gases becomes more pronounced at low loads and idling because the exhaust temperature reduces with decreasing load, i.e., the density and hence mass of the residual gases increase. The amount of fresh charge brought in during idling is much less than that during full throttle operation. The presence of exhaust gas tends to obstruct the contact of fuel and air particles a requirement necessary for satisfactory combustion. The richening of mixtures increases ... Essay on Explaination of Thermodynamics A Layman s Explanation of Two Laws of Thermodynamics Energy is encountered in many forms, such as mechanical, chemical (food and fuel), electrical, nuclear, heat, and radiant (light). Energy has the ability to bring about change or to do work. Thermodynamics is the study of energy. The field of thermodynamics studies the behavior of energy flow in natural systems. These studies have rendered two laws of thermodynamics. The first law of thermodynamics is also known as the law of conservation of energy. This law suggests that energy can be transferred from one system to another in many forms. Also, it cannot be created or destroyed, (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2012). Ultimately, the total amount of energy available is a constant. Einstein s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The laws of thermodynamics and how they are regarded in terms of energy are as such: the first law pretty much indicates that you can t get something for nothing and the second law pretty much indicates that you cannot break even; energy will be lesser than it was before the transfer. The first law governs the quality of energy available from an energy conversion process, whereas the second law governs the quality of the energy available. According to the first law, we will never run out of energy, but according to the second law, we can run out of high quality (useful) energy. The second law also tells us that high quality energy can never be used again. In terms easily understood, not only can we not get something for nothing (the first law), but we cannot ever break even in terms of energy quality (the second law). In this we can realize that we can recycle matter, but we can never recycle high quality energy. References Boulle, P. (2012). In Encyclopedia Britannica. • 21. Analysis Of Les Demoiselles DAvignon Les Demoiselles d Avignon Abstract expressionism Jackson Pollock Yif Chen Oct. 10th Les Demoiselles d Avignon is probably the most representative painting that transits Picasso to cubism. It is a radical break from the conventional representation that for so long has been accepted in western culture because Picasso directly brings concepts like sexuality, female nude bodies, and sexually transmitted diseases to form a palpable three dimensional fractured space. Picasso depicts the opposition of pleasure, which is sensual eroticism with sarcasm in a brothel located on a street named Avignon, takes women outward to audiences and engages with viewers. This painting is an untraditional and bold confrontation with the conventional art, thus, revolutionizing the entire art world. In this eye catching depiction, five prostitutes with five different shocking positions cover all over the canvas. With different elements, like the African mask, disproportional gesture, and Iberian sculpture, complexity and contraction are vividly portrayed in this painting. Making use of aggressively nude bodies, Picasso boldly pulls exaggerated and distorted expression into the canvass, and forms a sense of flatness by directing an interior, closed, and almost claustrophobic space, because every prostitute is almost near the edge of canvass, but at the same time, is perfectly enclosed by the space. There is no illusion or visual space that creates depth; the whole canvas is filled with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The author mentions how Mongolia was a fervent supporter of disarmament in the article. Mongolia is part of the G28 Group, a coalition of nonnuclear developing states, which call nuclear weapons states to dismantle their total arsenals within a period of time. Another important remark is how the author mentions that Mongolia was one of the first to sign and ratify the NPT and the seventh country to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The main reason why Mongolia is supporting the disarmament is mostly due to the tension that exists between China and Russia, two neighboring countries with nuclear weapons. However, this was not an uncommon mindset in early twentieth century Japan. Like most other countries, Japan began the 1900s with a heavy chauvinistic mindset. Employers tended to hire its female representatives based on their appearance rather than ability or character. Some jobs even posted signs requesting that only pretty girls apply ( Confronting Japan s Long Forgotten History of Sexism online). Misogyny was prevalent in the eastern country, which is an unfortunate yet unavoidable circumstance Butterfly had to run into. Like mentioned, while Goro exploits Butterfly for money, Pinkerton sees her more as a fun way to immerse himself in another culture. Despite the sacrifices Butterfly makes for her husband, such as convert to Christianity and risk disownment from her family, Pinkerton dismisses them to focus on her sex appeal. This is further emphasized how, after their first night together, the lieutenant quickly flees to focus on his other interests. Puccini uses Goro and Pinkerton to set the stage for further tragedy within Butterfly s life. Both men have major and unfortunately negative effects in the series of events in the opera; they continuously use her for her own gain without giving much thought to her own thoughts and well being. Puccini depicts Butterfly as loyal yet stubborn in spite of Pinkerton s sexist nature and Goro s eye for money. This comes to be her ultimate downfall in the next element of misfortune: personal ... Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It isn t confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another. It clearly shows David questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and times of significant triumph in his life. Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the most revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today, was even known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions (Whitney 251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim). Also, the Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals themselves. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. When they opened these books, they set down lapses of morality with appropriate expressions of faith (qtd. in Whitney 253 254). All of these people kept a journal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Assisting in the termination of one s own life is even more absurd; therefore, it should be hindered. Euthanasia should be stated illegal and prohibited throughout the whole world, for it leads to disadvantageous long term consciences including distrusting the medical field and giving more power to doctors than what they deserve. Many people view the Romans as a copy cat empire compared to the Greek because they modeled so many things after the Greeks, for myself, it would be correct to assume this were true. At first during the colonial age or era, Romans and Greek heavily influenced one another which one had engaged in trade at the Black Sea the surrounding Mediterranean areas. Trading between the two nations was very successful due to the safety of Roman Military presence. Over time, the Romans had adapted many of the Greeks practices and believes. This is one of the main reasons that Roman could be seen as a copy cat of Ancient Greece. Ancient Greece and Rome both had used agriculture. However, Rome did not have much problems with production of food through agriculture like the Greeks did. Both of them had produced products like wheat, but the former, Greece, had failed to produce a good amount of wheat because Romans had far superior farming techniques. Instead of having a good production of wheat, the Greeks had substituted wheat for olive oil hence why many people think of olive oil coming from Greece. The American Dream progressively becomes tainted by materialism and individuals covet money to climb up the social ladder. The Spread of Soviet Backed Communism Across Eastern Europe after 1945 In seeking to provide an answer to the question, Was the spread of Soviet backed communism inevitable across Eastern Europe after 1945?, I would like to point to the words of a contemporary specialist. At the end of World War II, R. R. Betts, the Masaryk Professor of Central European History at London University, asserted that much of the revolution in central and eastern Europe is native and due to the efforts of the peoples and their own leaders . . . [making it] clear that even if the Soviet Union had not been so near and so powerful, revolutionary changes would have come at the end of so destructive and subversive a war as that which ended... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet there are many such cases within the purview of this question. However, I do not completely disagree with the thesis of inevitability of Soviet backed communism or at least some form of authoritarianism. Thus, in the first section of this paper, I will air much of the support for that assertion and conclude that it was highly likely Soviet backed communism would eventually accomplish what it did. However, in a second section, I will argue that this outcome was hardly a fait accompli in 1945. Neither the subtleties of Eastern Europe s possible economic relations with the West in the form of the Marshall plan nor the lack of uniformity of the processes by which different states became Soviet satellites bear out the thesis of inevitability. The main strands of the argument for the inevitability of both authoritarianism and Soviet backed communism follow: The liberal democracies established in Eastern Europe after World War I were enfeebled by many factors, so much so that by the beginning of World War II, authoritarianism was already the norm. Thus, the post war step to further authoritarianism was not very large. The Wilsonian attempt at creating nations produced conditions hardly less destabilizing than those that had characterized the pre 1914 period, chiefly because of the sheer number of different ethnicities with the vehement desire . . . to secure revision of the post war settlement (Lewis 28, 30). The intent of the present study was to further investigate these findings. It was predicted that players who engage in violent video games would show higher rates of aggression. Participants (N = 20) were asked to complete two short surveys, the Buss and Perry (1992) aggression questionnaire and Anderson and Dill s (2000) video game exposure scale. The results of the study did not support the prediction, nor did they corroborate the findings from previous research. Identifying the relationship between violent video games and aggression is rather complex. Earlier studies have shown varying results; however, much of the research has shown a positive correlation between video game violence and real world aggression. • 52. Acids And Bases Lab Report Acids and bases are very important. We clean with them, we eat them, and we use them to help in chemistry. The ions who are the cause of acidic properties is H+ ions, or protons, and for basic properties, it s the OH ions, or hydroxide ions. all of that is based on a theory called the dissociation of water (which is H2O H+ + OH ). So the more H+ there is in a solution, the more acidic the solution is, and the less H+ there is, the more basic it is. That is why there is H+ in solution factors on the pH scale. The more protons present at one time means the pH scale decreases, and the H+ present goes down. The pH scales job is to measure the acidand baselevels of a substance and how strong they are. The numbers on the scale go from 1 to 14, with 1 containing the most hydrogen ions and 14 having the least.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some very well known properties of acids are that they taste sour, have a pH of less than 7, neutralize base by producing salt and water, acids are electrolytes, and they are proton donors. Some common base properties are that they taste bitter, have a pH bigger that 7, neutralize acids by producing salt and water, bases are electrolytes, and they are the proton receptors in the equation. Three theories outline the definition of an acid or a base are the Arehenius theory of acids and bases, the Bronsted Lowry theory of acids and bases (the hydrogen chloride ammonia problem), conjugate pairs, and Ampholeric substances. Acids and bases are very important and help people in every day circumstances and are extremely important to know in chemistry and once you know them, everything else is ...
