  1. The professional educator role within the Information and Computer Science discipline was investigated from the lecturers and students perspectives through three OER and Web 2.0 projects. Two studies which investigated the potential of OpenLearn OER and Web 2.0 tools were conducted in parallel and the third study involving actual reuse of OpenLearn OER followed on from these. One of the parallel projects was ‘OER and Web 2 for HCI’ which looked at possibilities for formal and informal learning from the perspective of two distance learning lecturers. The second of the parallel projects formed a case study (as a part of the CAPITAL project) of possible and actual reuse of OpenLearn OER and Web 2.0 for formal learning by a campus based lecturer. The third example is a project (‘OER and Web 2 for project based learning’) which builds on the previous studies and also uses the OpenLearn platform. This project looks at the potential and actual use of Web 2.0 and OER by a lecturer and their students studying (for their final year undergraduate project (which is based on one of the same HCI modules used in the first study)). Another aspect of OLnet is the sharing of open source materials in the ICS discipline area across different countries; this work in the area of project based learning is being conducted in the European project Open Software Engineering OpenSE ( www.opense.net ). Lecturers in Computer Science are keen to reuse OpenLearn OER with their students though a little more reticent about using open Web 2.0 tools in a public arena.
