The document introduces three characters: Mr. Bob Harris, a fading movie star in Tokyo to film a commercial while going through a split from his wife; Charlotte, a woman in Tokyo with her boyfriend John who ignores her; and John, who reluctantly agreed to Charlotte accompanying him to Tokyo for work. It prompts discussing the key traits of each character and creating a storyboard to introduce them through actions rather than dialogue.

1. Mr Bob Harris: (late 50s) – jet lagged middle-aged man; fading movie
star; first time in Tokyo; finds it hard to adapt to Japanese
customs; is in Tokyo to shoot a commercial; is on the verge of
splitting up from his wife and family
Charlotte: (mid-twenties) in Tokyo with her boyfriend who ignores
her
John: (mid-twenties) in Tokyo to work; doesn’t really want Charlotte
to be there.
Decide how you would introduce each of the characters to the
audience. What would you ‘reveal’ to the audience? What clues
would you give the audience? How would you communicate how the
characters feel about their lives in the opening scene?
DISCUSS / DECIDE / CREATE
Discuss the key character traits of each character
Decide how you would show these traits to the audience
Create a storyboard that illustrates the way you would
communicate these character traits to the audience
FOCUS ON ACTION RATHER THAN RELYING ON DIALOGUE
