In this talk we present a prototype solution for multitenant, scale-out Prometheus. Don't worry, its open source!
Our solution turns a lot of the Prometheus architectural assumptions on its head, by marrying a scale-out PromQL query engine with a storage layer based on DynamoDB & S3. We have disaggregated the Prometheus binary into a microservices-style architecture, with separate services for distribution, ingest and storage. By designing all these services as fungible replicas, this solution can be scaled out with ease and failure of any individual replica can be dealt with gracefully.
This multitenant, scale-out Prometheus service forms a core component of the Weave Cloud, a hosted management, monitoring and visualisation platform for microservice & containerised applications. This platform is built from 100% open source components, and we're working with the Prometheus community to contribute all the changes we've made back to Prometheus.

Amazon Cloud Overview
Amazon Cloud Hands-On provides an overview of Amazon Web Services including Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for computing resources, Simple Storage Service (S3) for storage, and Simple Queue Service (SQS) for message queuing. EC2 allows scaling computing power up or down within minutes and starts at 10 cents per hour for 1 EC unit equal to 1.7 GHz x86 processor and 1.7 GB RAM. S3 stores objects up to 5GB in size with SOAP and REST interfaces and affordable pricing, while SQS retains messages for 4 days with a maximum size of 8KB and supports SOAP and queries.
Containerization - The DevOps Revolution
Containerization allows for standardized and isolated application deployment across infrastructure through container runtimes like Docker. Key features that enable containers include namespaces which isolate processes and their views of the system, cgroups which control resource usage, and copy-on-write storage for efficient application packaging. A container orchestration system like Mesos provides scalability, fault tolerance, and unified resource management across clusters. This allows maximizing infrastructure utilization through flexible scheduling of containerized applications and services on shared clusters.

I will build from scratch in this session a Microsoft ASP.NET website that caches WebAPI REST calls with both MSOpenTech’s Redis implementation for running while developing in Visual Studio as well as running on a Windows server running IIS. I will show you how to build a safe reusable caching library in c# that can be used in any .net project. I will also demonstrate how to use the Redis cache services that are available on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. Further, I’ll demonstrate a real world web site that uses Azure Redis cache and show statistics on how Redis improves performance consistently and reliably.

BBC's GraphDB (formerly Owlim) AWS Cloud Migration
The BBC moved their OWLIM graph database to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to take ownership of OWLIM maintenance and support AWS adoption. They deployed OWLIM using AWS OpsWorks to define the infrastructure and Chef recipes to install and configure each layer. While OpsWorks and Chef provide benefits like simplicity and reuse, autoscaling is not supported and Chef recipes could be improved. Future plans include autoscaling, backup improvements, and refactoring Chef recipes.

Introduction to cStor replica - Contributors Meet 5th Oct 2018
The document introduces cStor replica, which uses uZFS to create pool and block volumes in userspace and store ZIL records for replication. cStor pool is the logical entity of the uZFS pool, and cStor Volume Replica is the logical entity of the uZFS block volume. Container Attached Storage (CAS) with OpenEBS - SDC 2018

Management of local nodes
Many NoSQL and other users do not need the resilience features of OpenEBS however they do want management of these nodes. OpenEBS users can now designate local node via their storage classes and have the benefits of metrics and fault management.
Node Disk Management support (NDM). One capability that has been added by MayaData to Kubernetes itself is improvements in the management of storage media in local nodes. OpenEBS 0.7 now uses NDM to improve the resilience and flexibility of Kubernetes for storage.
Data operations automation
As OpenEBS was adopted users increasingly encountered a number of storage and data management tasks such as data clean up, data back-up, copy data operations, auto-scaling and cross availability zone deployment specification and much more. All of these use cases and others have been made simpler to deliver in OpenEBS, to test and validate via Litmus integration in MayaOnline, and to observe and operate in MayaOnline.
Resilience and supportability
The fundamental task of any storage is to keep the data safe. With that in mind, OpenEBS adds resilience and supportability capabilities in each release, such as improved retry logic, improved resilience to network outages, cross availability zone recovery, initial snapshot-based replication, and backup options, and ongoing integrations with emerging Kubernetes capabilities to further increase control and availability.
A new user interface for MayaOnline
MayaOnline has been redesigned to be more intuitive for use in understanding, controlling and troubleshooting stateful environments on Kubernetes.

Backup Operation
ARK will invoke the Plugin-Snapshot (Backup) method.
Plugin: will call maya-apiserver backup api on a given volume
Maya-apiserver backup will call volumes (jiva/cstor) backup api
(jiva/cstor) volume controller will take a snapshot, and pass the request to one of the replica’s to push snapshot data to remote backup location (say S3 compatible -- as passed via the ark plugin or a custom backup location on mayaonline or may be a nfs server that openebs supports ). The code to actually push the data to backup location can make use of restic. We are putting it at the jiva/cstor for getting access to snapshot/incr snapshot data.
Restore Operation
ARK will invoke the Plugin-VolumeFromSnapshot (Restore) method
Plugin will invoke maya-apiserver to create a new PV/PVC and restore the data from backup.
ARK will launch the application with the PV/PVC.
Latest (storage IO) patterns for cloud-native applications
Applying micro service patterns to storage giving each workload its own Container Attached Storage (CAS) system. This puts the DevOps persona within full control of the storage requirements and brings data agility to k8s persistent workloads. We will go over the concept and the implementation of CAS, as well as its orchestration.
Deploying OpenEBS with Availability Zones
When one of the zones where application is running is gone, the application (a1) moves to one of the other zones and can access the data from the available replicas.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

The recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) present new methodologies for enhancing XML development workflows, introducing efficiency, automation, and intelligent capabilities. This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. The potential benefits and the possible pitfalls will be highlighted, providing a balanced view of the subject.
We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content. Additionally, we will examine the capacity of AI to enrich plain text with appropriate XML markup. Practical examples and methodological guidelines will be provided to elucidate how AI can be effectively prompted to interpret and generate accurate XML markup.
Further emphasis will be placed on the role of AI in developing XSLT, or schemas such as XSD and Schematron. We will address the techniques and strategies adopted to create prompts for generating code, explaining code, or refactoring the code, and the results achieved.
The discussion will extend to how AI can be used to transform XML content. In particular, the focus will be on the use of AI XPath extension functions in XSLT, Schematron, Schematron Quick Fixes, or for XML content refactoring.
The presentation aims to deliver a comprehensive overview of AI usage in XML development, providing attendees with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions. Whether you’re at the early stages of adopting AI or considering integrating it in advanced XML development, this presentation will cover all levels of expertise.
