The document describes a study on implementing a wind farm reactive power coordination scheme using IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging. A centralized wind farm controller was modeled in real-time on an OPAL-RT simulator to regulate the voltage at the point of common coupling by dispatching reactive power setpoints to each wind turbine generator based on its reactive power capability. The simulation results demonstrated that the wind farm was able to maintain the voltage within the required range under both unity power factor and reactive power coordination control modes using GOOSE messaging for real-time communication between the controller and wind turbine generators.
