This session will explore how to use the Cloud Native Buildpacks (CNCF) project and its integrations into the Spring ecosystem. It will cover the use of Spring Boot’s Maven and Gradle plugins, the pack CLI, the kpack Kubernetes service, and more.
DCSF 19 Microservices API: Routing Across Any Infrastructure

Microservice architectures can be difficult to implement. Specifically how to route to the a service correctly and ensure that traffic is spread across all instances of that service. What happens in a cloud environment where it is normal to lose and gain service instances as a part of daily operations? How do you configure something to be able to consistently route to your service when you don’t even know where your service is running!? At Docker, we developed our own highly available and automated API server on top of HAProxy with deep integration with Consul. Our API server acts as a service discovery and load balancing service to ensure availability in a highly dynamic environment. In addition to running such a complex application, we need to support thousands of requests per second while being able to monitor every request that comes through--that is no small feat!
In addition to running a highly available API server, we also recently migrated it from running natively on Ubuntu 14.04 to run all components inside of containers by using Kubernetes with Docker Enterprise. With the containerization journey came some benefits along with new challenges that were not foreseen.

Demystifying container connectivity with kubernetes in docker
The addition of Kubernetes support to Docker Enterprise Platform presents deployments with interesting new abstractions for application connectivity. Users and Operators are often challenged with rationalizing how pod networking (with CNI plugins like Calico or Flannel), Services (via kube-proxy) and Ingress work in concert to enable application connectivity within and outside a cluster. Similarly, given the dynamic and transient nature of containerized microservice workloads, how to leverage scalable and declarative approaches like network policies to express segmentation and security primitives.
This session provides an illustrative walkthrough of these core concepts by going through common deployment architectures providing design, operations, and scale considerations based on experience from numerous production deployments. t last year’s DOES conference, we introduced the new Domain Specific Language (DSL) for Electric Flow and painted a vision for how it could revolutionize application release automation (ARA) for very large enterprise implementations.
We are pleased to share with you our experiences and learnings from such a large scale implementation in a financial services company that we’ve been working on this past year. This is a very large implementation—hundreds of ‘platforms’, each containing hundreds of application components each targeting hundreds of ‘device types’, that is, thousands of components distributed across tens of thousands of end points in data centers across the world.
Because of regulatory and quality concerns, complex multi-environment stage testing and promotion systems with clear separation of duties must be enforced. While Electric Flow provided the core functionality to achieve these goals, there was a considerable amount of customization required to support legacy applications, tools and processes. All of the custom work done by the Electric Cloud professional services teams was done in DSL, that is, source code first. Customizations are maintained in a source control system and applied to the various staging environments through automated script execution managed by Electric Flow. While the Electric Flow UI was not used to author content, it was used to verify implementation and provide a convenient ways for the client to monitor progress of their application delivery. The result was a highly maintainable and scalable implementation that could be customized and adjusted on a moment’s notice. Indeed, the project has been managed in a lean agile manner with three week sprints.

В рамках GlobalLogic Test Automation Advent Calendar нещодавно відбувся GlobalLogic Test Automation Live Testing Session “Android Behind UI — Testing Challenges” від Дмитра Токарського, Lead Test Engineer, Quality Assurance, GlobalLogic.
Під час заходу ми говорили про те, як працює Android Debug Bridge, що стоїть за вбудованими фреймворками тестування UI та як спілкуватися з додатками та системою, якщо немає UI. Окремо поговорили про Bluetooth й окреслили бібліотеки Python для роботи с Bluetooth та сервісами Android.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
