● Chinese were the first to use it for medical reasons.
● It got to Europe in 500 A.D.
● In 1545 the Spanish brought marijuana into America.
● It was introduced into Jamestown in 1611 where it became a major commercial
crop alongside tobacco.
● Was also grown for fiber.
● In 1920 marijuana began to catch on.
● A herbalist by the name of Nicholas Culpeper writes about marijuana being
used for medical reasons.
● In 1840 marijuana becomes mainstream medical drug in the west.
5. Level of Drug
● Marijuana is categorized as Schedule 1. The other drugs in this category is
heroin and peyton.
● There are 3 types of marijuana. They are sativa, indica, and hybrid.
● Sativa is a more relaxing, makes you wanna go to bed type of marijuana.
● Indica is more of a creative, energetic type of marijuana.
● Hybrid is a little bit of each mixed together.
6. Chemicals
● The chemical that is dominant in marijuana is THC.
● THC is the chemical that makes you high.
● THC binds with the receptors in your brain that affects the production of
dopamine.
● There’s also a chemical called CBD.
7. Short Term and Long Term Effects
● Short term- Short term memory loss, severe anxiety, panic, hallucinations, loss
of sense and personality, lower reaction time, increase heart rate, increased
rate of stroke, problems with coordination, sexual problems, lower reaction
time.
● Long Term-Decline in I.Q., poor school performance, impaired thinking and
learning, lower life satisfaction, addiction, potential development of opiate
abuse, relationship problems, antisocial behavior problems, financial
difficulties.
8. Harmful Effect
● Marijuana can cause anxiety.
● Marijuana can also cause emotional withdraw.
● Caught with a small amount of weed is considered decriminalized. That means
it is usually punished with a fine.
● In Indiana it is considered a misdemeanor which means it can go on your
criminal record.
