2. History
● On October, 15 1492 Christopher Columbus was asked to try tobacco by
American Indians.
● A spanish doctor named Nicolas Monardes claimed tobacco could cure 36
health problems.
● First crop grown for money in North America
● Tobacco is in the same family as potato, pepper, and the poisonous
nightshade.
● Thought to first grow in 6,000 B.C.
3. How can it be administered in the body?
● Tobacco could be administered by cigarettes, cigars, and pipes.
● It can also be sniffed if powdered.
● Bidis- an alternative cigarette cam from India and were hand rolled.
5. Classifications
● Depressants- Slow activity of the brain and nerves.
● Stimulants- speeden the activity of central nervous system.
● Hallucinogens- attack the central nervous system and change your perception
of reality, time, and space.
● Opioids- used to treat pain and cough. They attack the opioid receptors.
● Inhalants- go through the lungs into the bloodstream by sniffing, spraying,
huffing, bagging, and inhaling,
● Cannabis- plant-derived, attacks through cannabinoid receptors in the brain.
● NPS- Designed to evade the existing drug laws.
Tobacco- Tobacco is a stimulant drug because it has nicotine. Nicotine speeds up
your brain process. .
6. Chemicals in Tobacco
● Cigarette smoke alone has over 7000 chemicals, 69 known to be cancer
causing and 400 toxins.
Just a few chemicals- Acetone, acetic acid, ammonia, arsenic, benzene, butane,
cadmium, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, hexamine, lead, naphthalene,
methanol, nicotine, tar, toluene
7. Harmful effects
Physical- Your lungs can be affected very badly causing coughs, colds, wheezing,
and asthma. Smoking will cause many fatal diseases.
Mental/ Emotional- Once nicotine enters your body, your body sees it as pleasure
causing it to be addicting. When you don't get nicotine your euphoric feeling is lost
and the result is an emotional dependence of the drug. Smokers become irritable,
depressed and anxious. Also stress and isolation.
Social- Once you start to smoke your craving for nicotine sky rockets. Meaning you
might need to leave your friends to smoke or avoid going to places because you
can't smoke there.
Legal consequences- You must be 18 or older to buy tobacco. Selling to minors has
fines or even jail time.

● Lost athletic ability
● Decreased lung capacity
● Chronic cough

● Tobacco kills

9. Medical uses
Scientist have succeeded in using genetically modified tobacco plants to produce
medicines for several autoimmune diseases, including diabetes.
● A potent anti-inflammatory cytokine
● Used for diseases
● “Holy Herb” or “God's Remedy”
10. Mixing
● Mixing tobacco and alcohol can be very unfortunate.
● Shortened life span, interpersonal problems. And respiratory problems. Throat
and esophageal cancer, and more cancers
● Mixing alcohol and tobacco can cause carcinogens to be trapped against
tissue in the throat.
11. Family and society
● Your family can be affected by secondhand smoke.
● You put yourself at risk and you poor health can take a toll of your family
● You influence other people to smoke by you smoking
● Pollutes the air
● Brings in high taxes why it wont be illegal
