The Evolution of Application Release AutomationXebiaLabs
The capabilities provided by today’s Application Release Automation (ARA) tools have advanced exponentially in recent years. Despite these advancements, the enterprise demands new requirements that go beyond application change to automate even more of the release process. The evolving definition of ARA now includes areas that were previously left unaddressed, such as the deployment of database changes and the orchestration of the entire release process. In this on-demand webinar, learn how Datical and XebiaLabs are working together to address the changing needs of the enterprise through the evolution of ARA.
The 3 Pillars of Remote Application DevelopmentJenna Starmer
Application development is already challenging in the best of times, so how can you handle it when your entire development team is suddenly working from home? According to a Gartner survey, 88 percent of companies have encouraged or required employees to work from home since March 2020.
Unfortunately, this has set too many AppDev teams adrift, unprepared for the new normal of telecommuting. Some businesses have adopted stopgap solutions that aren’t sustainable in the long run, while others are feeling the pinch of tightened budgets and stressed employees. If you’ve got challenges here too, we can help.
Watch the hour-long webinar where we’ll discuss the three essential factors that separate the high achieving remote application development teams from those struggling to adapt.

Increase sales by understanding the buyers journeyChristos Pittis
Any marketing endeavour start with and should start with understanding how your buyers actually come to buy the services or products that you are trying to market. This process a buyer goes through from needing something and ultimately making the purchase is called the “Buyer’s Journey” and it is one of the fundamental pillars of our Brand Immersion Marketing™ methodology.
To clearly illustrate this journey and how it impacts your marketing efforts, I have chosen an example of my own buyer journey in purchasing a camera for my travels. I love to travel and do so at every opportunity. My favorite destinations are in Europe and I love taking copious amounts of photos during these trips.
There are three stages of a buyer’s journey – the Awareness Stage, the Consideration Stage and the Decision Stage – which we will explore in detail.

How to Finish a Day in a Good and Happy Way
Always remember: to fall asleep with a Dream and wake up with a Purpose!
No matter how hard things were today, tomorrow is a fresh opportunity to make it better!
Finish the Day with some Positive thoughts
http://howtobehappy.guru/how-to-finish-a-day-in-a-good-and-happy-way/
Positive thinking can help to create our happiness
The happiness of our life depends upon the quality of our thoughts
We need to be Grateful and Thankful no matter how bad our day was, we have had the good fortune to live it.
Someone, somewhere else, has not been as fortunate to live it as us.
Avoid Negative thoughts, don't dwell in the past, forgive yourself for your mistakes.
If for the day ahead we have some challenging situations to deal with
Let's try to imagine how we will feel when we have solved our problems.
Worrying doesn't take away tomorrows troubles, it takes away today's peace.
Practice some Breathing exercises. It can helps us to control our emotions and fears and keep a clear and sharp mind.
Practice some Meditation. Meditation can helps us to eliminate negative thoughts, worries, anxiety, all factors that can prevent us feeling happy.
Listen To Some Music that makes you feel good and relaxed.
Congratulate yourself on your accomplishments and wish yourself a Good Night!

How to Start a Day in a Good and Happy Way
Waking up to see another day is a blessing. Don't take it for granted. Make it count and be happy that you're alive.
Every day is a new day and even if something was wrong yesterday, we can get it right today
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” ― Mother Teresa
When you open your eyes take a half-smile and then give yourself a good morning wish to fully wake up.
http://howtobehappy.guru/how-to-start-a-day-in-a-good-and-happy-way/
Spend a few minutes concentrating on your breathing and relaxing your body.
Do not jump out of bed and start the day as if you were living in autopilot mode.
Be aware of what you are doing, start to live the present, remember Happiness is in the present moment
Decide your first thought. Do not let the first thought decide the course of your day
Remember that thoughts create our emotions and moods.
Drink a glass of water on an empty stomach, warm water or at room temperature. Why?
Because our body after all the hours of sleep can be easily dehydrated
Have breakfast. Breakfast is really the most important meal of the day.
Decide to have a Happy and Good day and
Don't Let Anything or Anyone Ruin Your Happiness!

StartUp Business: Convert your Idea into Something TangibleChristos Pittis
Startup Business: Convert your idea into something tangible
So You Want To Start a Business: Tips for Creating a Startup
If you already have a business idea or plan, it is quite hard to take the idea and convert it into something tangible.
I will show you some of the most important things to consider here.
Here are some general pointers:
• Do not create something you are not passionate about, as you will probably fail to carry through
• Think about this as a project or venture rather than a business
• Simplify the idea, then expand over time
• Spend a lot of time planning the marketing scheme – use as little money as possible
• Outsource things that don’t need to be done in-house
Since your company will be a legal entity, the form of this entity must be considered.
• Consider the legal advantages/disadvantages of each legal structure
• Choose between being an LLC, “C” Corp, or “S” Corp
• Decided where to incorporate based on tax laws, etc.
Any company will need a team which works hard to keep it going.
When making a team, consider the following:
• Think hard about whether or not you need a co-founder – it’s not at all necessary
• Consider the company’s culture
• Designate a CEO, but don’t hire one
You absolutely must brainstorm a clear path to profitability. If you don’t becoming bankrupt is a much bigger possibility.
• Start with 1 income stream
• Back up any financial models with real-life information
• Figure out how many customers you will need to be profitable.
Make sure to secure your intellectual property:

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
The Metaverse and AI: how can decision-makers harness the Metaverse for their...Jen Stirrup
The Metaverse is popularized in science fiction, and now it is becoming closer to being a part of our daily lives through the use of social media and shopping companies. How can businesses survive in a world where Artificial Intelligence is becoming the present as well as the future of technology, and how does the Metaverse fit into business strategy when futurist ideas are developing into reality at accelerated rates? How do we do this when our data isn't up to scratch? How can we move towards success with our data so we are set up for the Metaverse when it arrives?
How can you help your company evolve, adapt, and succeed using Artificial Intelligence and the Metaverse to stay ahead of the competition? What are the potential issues, complications, and benefits that these technologies could bring to us and our organizations? In this session, Jen Stirrup will explain how to start thinking about these technologies as an organisation.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

KNOWLEDGE BASES & COMMUNITY FORUMS
Thanks for your time
My name is Christos Pittis
Today I am here to share my experiences as a NAV user and consultant so the following discussion will be more of a NAV upgrade story rather than any sales pitch. If you are on an earlier version of NAV and thinking about a move to a more recent version then I believe the next 45 minutes or so that we have together will be of some use.
I have 9 years of NAV experience and I also hold an MCP on this application. I have participated in some large scale and diversified projects in my career, which has given me experience from Version 3.0 through to the latest release 2016.
I work as a NAV implementation consultant for Ocean Dynamics, a Microsoft Gold Partner and have been asked to speak today as Arsenal are one of our clients.
I will take you through the journey we’ve been in our company while upgrading from Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016. Along with that I will bring to the table some areas of potential performance improvements to your Microsoft Dynamics NAV environment and lastly but not least I am going to present you my top 5 knowledge bases and forums. NAV has one of the strongest ERP communities and I can’t see no reason why we shouldn’t utilize the available resources to it’s full potential.
Allow me to set the scene so we are on the same page. Our organisations consists of two very different businesses, with quite different operations and needs. Ocean Dynamics is a Gold Microsoft Dynamics NAV partner and TLM Group technology Ltd (our parent company) provides solutions to the fuel and convenience market. We are running NAV within Ocean and Zero within TLM.
Having said that we also had to decide what project management methodology we were about to follow. As a NAV implementation partner Sure Step was the obvious choice. I personally prefer Microsoft Sure Step because it is designed specifically for Microsoft Dynamics solutions (NAV, AX, GP, SL, CRM). It offers templates, resources, guidance and case studies so I felt that this is a perfect match. Not to put the other Project Management Methodologies down, but Sure Step is a common place for all Dynamics NAV partners.
It is flexible and adjustable depending on the size of the project and the timelines so we wanted to follow the best practices recommended but at the same time to put our own tweaks on it.
I have found Sure Step to work well, especially in mid size organisations where there is the flexibility to have an agile approach as part of the delivery. Other processes such as Prince 2 I find more suited to larger based projects.
So let me take you through the Sure Step phases and give you my experience (good and bad) at each stage.
As you know there are 6 phases: Diagnostic, Analysis, Design, Development, Deployment and Operation
The first two phases set the scene for the entire project. I want to spend some time going through my experience at this stage as the outcome will ultimately determine whether you decide to migrate or upgrade your NAV environment – there are good and bad reasons in doing both.
The Deployment & Analysis phase is really designed to clarify:
The business reasons why you would want to move to a later version of NAV
Clarity on the business processes, which may be very separate to those that you currently operate within your business today
The “end game” – ie what you will be able to do once the solution is in place
And obviously what the investment is going to be.
There a few well-grounded reasons why a company would not want to stay on a release for a long time.
Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy provides consistent and predictable guidelines for product support availability when a product releases and throughout that product’s life. If I remember well Microsoft does not support versions prior to 2009 any more.
Microsoft has officially published new Microsoft Dynamics NAV Roadmap and we can safely conclude that Microsoft is planning to push Dynamics NAV into cloud and they are putting so much of effort to introduce new functionalities.
Keeping up with the technology is of a great importance, not only because there is no other option but also to (4) improve the performance of your daily tasks.
Microsoft suggests if you are on the Role Tailored versions working on the 3 tier architecture concept, 2013, 2013R2 and 2015 you can upgrade directly to 2016.
If you are sitting on a pre-Role Tailored release, 2009, 5.0, 4.0 then you should upgrade to 2013 as an intermediate step.
For those who don’t remember, Microsoft introduced the Role Tailor client and 3 tier architecture in release 2013.
In my experience as a consultant who has been involved with may upgrades, the common choice is to Re-implement.
At a high level this is down to:
Business making a decision to put in new processes as their business has changed since the last implementation. It doesn’t make sense to bring across old processes as part of an upgrade, which makes a re-implementation more practical and the safer option.
You don’t have enough dedicated technical resources to support an upgrade
Why we went down to the re-implementation route:
We wanted to take this opportunity to implement a new business vision
New migration tools were introduced so It’s easier to transfer and manipulate data
The existing solution did not carry heavy customizations
We wanted to end up with a lighter database so we transferred opening balances only
No third party add-on solution were included in the current setup
So, Upgrade or simply re-implement, and when is an upgrade better than a re-implementation?
1. Are there many customizations, and do we need them?
2. Are there any ISV solutions or integrations with third party applications, and do they support the target version?
3. What is the version of the source system and is there a clear upgrade path?
4. Do you want to redesign your business logic?
I would like to share some do’s and don’ts according to what we have experienced as a team.
Let’s start with the Design phase:
1. It is highly recommended inviting key users based on what functionality/modules are in scope
2. It’s easier and less cost effective if you deal with changes at this phase rather than when the implementation is done
3. Build users ownership of the project deliverables
4. It’s quite hard to make changes in a house once you build it, so pay enough attention to the architectural designs
5. Make sure you prepare adequate documentation
6. Update the project plan frequently. A project plan is a living document
Development phase:
1. Clarify the lead Developer – without this you are likely to get several opinions and direction from different people – that makes it difficult to make a decision
2. The more testing you run the less issues may arise at the end user testing and that builds confidence
3. Agree a system for project changes. Changes are part of the project cycle so put your self to be aware what to do and how when that happens
4. Usually developers focus on what the system should do and ignore how the system should be (i.e.
usability, maintainability, scalability, testability, etc.)
5. Don’t make assumptions, ask questions because that leads to reworks and delays
6. Prepare for the migration but start working on it in the Deployment phase so to avoid possible reworks.
A project has a start and end and that’s the different with operations which is an ongoing process
In that respect, make sure to effectively transfer knowledge to the users
Document lessons learned for future reference and feedback. It’s not a “who’s fault exercise”.
Clear all pending items so to increase the confidence about the system and your team’s intention to close the project
Run a disaster recovery test
After going live start the transition to support
The following are new NAV 2016 features where you can potentially increase performance to your NAV environment.
Workflows
You can set up and use workflows that connect business-process tasks performed by different users. System tasks, such as automatic posting, can be included as steps in workflows, preceded or followed by user tasks. Requesting and granting approval to create new records are typical workflow steps
Electronic documents
Microsoft Dynamics NAV supports receiving electronic invoices and credit memos in a specific format, which is supported by the largest providers of document exchange services.
In addition to receiving electronic documents directly from trading partners, you can receive electronic documents from an OCR service that has turned your PDF or image files into electronic documents
Posting Preview
On every document and journal that can be posted, you can choose the Preview Posting button to review the different types of entries that will be created when you post the document or journal.
That minimizes errors and the need for reversing transactions.
Microsoft Social Engagement
Microsoft Dynamics NAV integrates with Microsoft Social Engagement and can be made available on customers, vendors, and items. You set up Microsoft Social Engagement for a specific record to monitor and collect data based on specific search criteria on different types of social media.
Universal app on all your devices
The app displaying the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Tablet client and Microsoft Dynamics NAV Phone client is targeted at users in small and medium sized businesses that want to access data from a tablet or a phone. Some of the advantages of offering this solution are portability and flexibility, when the user is away from the desk, on the train, between meetings, passing time and so on.
Maintenance plans create a workflow of the tasks required to make sure that your database is optimized, regularly backed up, and free of inconsistencies.
There are various best practices for SQL and I am not a SQL expert and my advice is not to underestimate this part.
By using Management Studio, you can create maintenance plans and jobs.
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/nav/2010/09/28/microsoft-dynamics-navsql-server-configuration-recommendations/
So you have had your Dynamics NAV system for a few years now and your data volumes have steadily grown and your reports become slower.
So there’s two halves to this – the master data and the transactions.
You can delete unnecessary data from the system thus making the database smaller and faster.
What the data compression process does is delete the detail and replace it with one entry that keeps your current values correct making your data much smaller but still keeping the reporting integrity.
By installing cumulative updates and service packs the functionality and the performance of the system improves.
In this section I am recommending my top 5 Knowledge bases & community forums. Apologize if I omitted some of your favourites. I promise to include more in my next presentation.
