Commissioned by Freelancers Union, Upwork, and the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, this study surveyed 5,000 working adults in New York City. The study, launched in part to inform work at Freelancers Hub, the first City-funded effort providing dedicated coworking and training to freelancers, estimates that 1.3 million workers are freelancing — with an estimated annual economic impact of $31.4 billion in earnings from their freelance work.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WORK-LIFE BALANCE AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCERobinson Omamo
This study focuses on one flexible working practice, homeworking, and examines its benefits at the individual level. I question the employee's perception of homeworking as a benefit. For example, in the case of an organization where homeworking has a long history and has become a common and extended practice among employees over time, I argue that employees may not perceive homeworking as a discretionary benefit, but as an entitlement. Since the research questions of this study are of an exploratory nature, I applied qualitative analysis to primary interview data obtained in Samba Financial Group. The interview data allowed examination of the ways in which research participants perceived and experienced past employee-organization exchanges and, thus, address the research questions regarding the perceptions of the content and quality of the employee organization relationship (EOR). I supported the qualitative results with quantitative analysis of survey data the research team collected from the same organization and other internal organizational data. The results support past research that shows working from home brings benefits such as helping employees with balancing their home and work commitments with becoming more productive as they have fewer distractions than when working at the office This study seeks to contribute to the on-going debate about the consequences of homeworking focusing on the employee-organization relationship and drawing from the social exchange theory and the inducements-contributions model.

Nearly 3% of the workforce quit their jobs in October. That's over 4 million resignation letters. And it is just shy of the record set the month before.
Here are the top 10 contributing reasons and 3 factors that I believe are negligible…
1. Horrible Bosses - 70% of workers who voluntarily resign don't quit their job... they quit their boss.
Here was a comment from the CEO of SHRM Johnny C. Taylor, Jr.,
“People don't leave jobs, they leave bad managers and bad cultures. The pandemic has shown many of us what truly matters, and what truly matters is PEOPLE. Employees want to feel valued and appreciated. They want to feel like they belong. And it's time for workplace leaders to step up.”
2. Lack of freedom - Many workers have been remote over the last two years. They've gotten used to work-from-home. Namely less stress and greater flexibility. Now many are being mandated to go back to the office.
3. Friends - According to Gallup, “Those who [have a best friend at work] are seven times as likely to be engaged in their jobs." The pandemic has weakened work relationships.
4. Peer Pressure - You can't discount the "knock-on" effect of job-hopping. All of a sudden you start seeing coworkers or friends quitting in droves. You begin to question it yourself.
5. Generational - Millennials and GenZ are now the vast majority of workers. They don't see work the same way as previous generations. Job hopping isn't a black mark any longer.
6. Mo' Money - In the words of Ray DuBeau Jr., "Money is the conduit that allows people to live their lives. Companies and industries that are offering above-market rates aren't experiencing the great resignation."
7. Start-Up Boom - Americans started 4.3 million businesses last year, a 24% increase from the year before and by far the most in the 15 years that the government has kept track. Applications are on a pace to be even higher this year.
8. Childcare - lack of it has forced workers, particularly women, from reentering the workforce.
9. Upskilling - According to Lon Graham, “During the pandemic, a lot of people enrolled in online classes, online training, and other skill-building activities. The one's who did are now worth more to the marketplace and are leaving current jobs for the jobs they qualified themselves to get.”
10. Purpose - According to Margarita Andryushenko, “If an employee doesn’t feel like they’re making a difference or if the work they are doing actually matters, that’s a big deal-breaker right there. People want to feel connected and important to the work they’re doing.”
... and 3 reasons that aren't valid in my view: Vaccine Mandates, Handouts, and Gig Work.

The 2019 JOTW Communications Survey examines trends in corporate communications and PR. This year’s survey polled 223 communications and public relations (PR) professionals. Some 68% of respondents report holding in-house communication roles and 90% have 10 years or more experience in the industry.The second annual survey was conducted by Sword and the Script Media, LLC in collaboration with Ned Lundquist. Ned launched “Job of the Week” (JOTW) email newsletter in 2001 as a free resource for PR and communications professionals looking for work.
Key findings in this survey include:
>> Budget is the top communications and PR challenge. Budget (59%) was the top challenge for the second year in a row. This was followed by limited staffing or headcount (55%); ever-expanding duties (52%); balancing priorities (49%); and measuring the impact of comms (49%). Just 18% anticipate budgets rising; 51% say they will remain flat and 29% expect budgets to fall.
>> More PR work is being taken in-house. Some 47% of respondents said they’ve observed more PR work being taking in-house. This mirrors broader trends in marketing, where CMOs have slashed agencies in favor of in-house teams. The top reasons for hiring an agency are: execution, expertise and for strategic projects; the top reasons for firing a firm are cost, poor client service and an inability to measure ROI.
>> Storytelling, analytics and thought leadership are the top tactics and trends. The respondents identified storytelling (76%); data & analytics (75%); thought leadership (70%); measurement (66%) and content marketing (64%) as growing more important. While not a majority, those with the most votes for less important were press releases (33%), award programs (31%) and white papers (36%).
>>Media relations continues to get harder. Most respondents (68%) said media relations is harder or much harder – up from 51% last year. Respondents cited reporter turnover, veteran reporters being replaced with junior ones, and “in-your-face-journalism” as contributing causes. Money and standards distinguish media relations from influencer marketing.
>>Top metrics PR pros track. About one-third (29%) think they do an adequate job of communications measurement while 46% say it needs improvement. The most common metrics comms pros said they track includes web traffic (73%); impressions (66%); estimated site traffic (60%); mentions (57%) and email open rates (52%).
>>More communicators report to the CEO than to marketing. More respondents (38%) say the comms function reports to the CEO, versus 35% that say they report to marketing. This was followed by the chief operating officer (9%), strategy (7%) and human resources (5%).

Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
