Seven C's of effective communication.
The seven C's of effective communication include completeness, conciseness, consideration, clarity, concreteness, courtesy and correctness
Communication barriers can be found everywhere in business, from the top down to middle management to external relationships. Communication breakdowns occur organizationally, such as when team members are isolated, or individually, when a person misinterprets or ignores what another is saying. They can arise from too many distractions at work or not enough clarity about a project.

10 What does a golfer, tennis player or cricketer (or any other professional sportsperson) focus on to achieve high performance? They nearly always give the same answer: “Repeat my process (that is the process they have practised a million times) – replicate it under real pressure and trust in my ability” That’s why Matthew Lloyd throws the grass up under the roof at Etihad Stadium. It is why Ricky Ponting taps the bat, looks down,
looks up and mouths “watch the ball”. It’s
unnecessary for Matthew Lloyd to toss the

his process under pressure.
Ricky Pointing knows you have to watch the

High performance in sport is achieved through focusing on your
processes, not the scores.
It is absolutely no different in local government. Our business
is governance and we need to be focusing very hard on our
governance processes. We need to learn these processes, modify
them when necessary, understand them deeply, repeat them
under pressure and trust in our capabilities to deliver. If we do
that, the scores will look after themselves.
I want to share with you my ten most important elements in
the governance process. Let me fi rst say that good governance is
the set of processes, protocols, rules, relationships and behaviours
which lead to consistently good decisions. In the end good
governance is good decisions. You could make lots of good
decisions without good governance. But you will eventually
run out of luck – eventually, bad governance process will lead
to bad decisions. Consistently good decisions come from good
governance processes and practices.
Good governance is not only a prerequisite for consistently
good decisions, it is almost the sole determinant of your
reputation. The way you govern, the ‘vibe’ in the community
and in the local paper about the way you govern is almost the
sole determinant of your reputation. Believe me, if reputation
matters to you, then drive improvements through good
governance.
So here are the ten core elements:
1. THE COUNCIL PLAN
An articulate council plan is a fundamental fi rst step to achieving
your goals. It is your set of promises to your community for a
four-year term.
Unfortunately, there are too many wrong plans:
• Claytons Plans – say too little and are too bland. Delete the
name of the council from these plans and you can’t tell whose
it is! There’s no ‘vibe’ at all.
• Agreeable Plans – where everyone gets their bit in the plan.
There’s no sense of priorities, everyone agrees with everything
in the plan and we save all the real fi ghts and confl icts to be
fought out one by one over the four-year term.
• Opposition-creating Plans – we don’t do this so often but we

INTERNAL PROMOTION OPPORTUNITY 4
Internal Promotion Opportunity
Student’s Name
Institutional Affiliation
Description
A. What is your challenge or opportunity?
To investigate the correlation between employees in high-involvement work practices (HIWP) and internal promotion opportunity. According to Rocio Bonet, there is a positive impact on the promotion opportunities for employees in HIWP (Bonet, 2014). Most HIWP employees are lower level staff. Participating in high-involvement work practices accords them an avenue to showcase their capabilities to their superiors.
B. Why is this professionally important to you?
Having risen from initial holding a HIWP position to now being in a top managerial position, this presents me with the opportunity to convince the board to consider recruiting inwardly in the future. It is professionally important because it is easier to work with people you already have a history with as opposed to having to blend in with strangers recruited externally.
Goal
A. What goal or outcome do you want to achieve with this outcome?
My goal is to convince the board to consider giving current members of staff whenever an opportunity arises which they are suitable to fill. To help members of staff to internalize the vision and mission of the organization. Once the staff members have become accustomed to the vision and mission of the firm, their productivity can be more targeted towards specific outcomes that the firm intends to achieve. With a more committed staff, promotion opportunities would not easily bypass them.
i. Is the goal, clear, concise and actionable?
The goal(s) of this communication strategy is clear and concise, that is, helping staff members to understand the vision and mission of the organization, in a bid to structure the targeted output. The goals are also actionable. The objective of helping staff to understand the vision and mission of the organization is to help employees have a coordinated approach to meeting their set targets.
Audience
A. Who is your target audience?
The targeted audience is not homogenous. It consists of people with diverse backgrounds. The target includes both internal and external audiences. Some of those targeted include members of the board of directors, shareholders, government regulatory authorities, members of staff in general but specifically, human resource management and development department, marketing and public relations department and all heads of department.
i. What are the professional positions of audience members?
As has been indicated above, the audience is diverse; therefore, members have varying professional qualifications as shown herein below:
a. Government Regulatory Authority officer
b. Group chief executive officer (CEO)
c. Chief operating officer
d. Head of Human Resource
e. Unit officers in charge
f. Officer In charge of mergers and acquisitions

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.
