The Organization of American States (OAS) observed Belize's March 7, 2012 general and municipal elections with a team of 22 observers. The OAS observed that the elections were peaceful and professionally run, with over 3,000 polling officials ensuring a smooth voting process. However, the OAS noted low numbers of female candidates and a need for campaign finance regulations. The OAS also observed party activists outside polling stations could undermine the voting process and recommends reducing electioneering in these areas.
