On January 15, 2014, the 95th birthday of Rt Hon. George Price, Hon Francis Fonseca, Party Leader launched the PUP 10 point Social Justice Agenda. This honours and continues the legacy of Mr. Price and places the PUP on the right path in preparing for governance.

2. Article (b) of the POLITICAL CREED of the People’s United Party states as follows:
“ I am a member of the People’s United Party because I believe in the principles
of social, economic and environmental justice, and therefore believe that the operation
of the economic system must result in the material resources of the country being so
distributed as to serve the common good; that there should be adequate means of
livelihood for all, that labor should not be exploited or forced by economic necessity to
operate in inhumane conditions but that there should be opportunity for advancement
on the basis of recognition of merit, ability and integrity; that equal protection should
be given to children regardless of their social status and that a just system should be
ensured to provide for education and health on the basis of equality.”
3. Indeed SOCIAL JUSTICE has been the heartbeat and central philosophy of the peaceful,
constructive Belizean Revolution since its birth on September 29th, 1950.
A Workers Party whose beginnings were grounded in the labor and union movement.
Today we celebrate and pay respect to that proud history and legacy built on the shoulders of
the Belizean woman and man and inspired by the vision of our great leader and Father of the
Nation George Price.
The People’s United Party of 2014 recognize and accept that our great Party has not always
kept faith with its roots.
Today, we the Leaders and Members of the People’s United party in 2014 PROCLAIM AND
REAFFIRM our unwavering commitment to SOCIAL JUSTICE for and on behalf of the people
of Belize.
The distinguished Caribbean Leader Michael Manley summarized Social Justice “ As being
concerned with the organization of access. There must be equal access to jobs, to food,
to clothing and shelter, to social security; to the decision making process; to the sense of
belonging and , to being of equal value; to creative leisure, to the processes and remedies of
the law, to education. Men (women) are not equally gifted but they are severally endowed and
to each must be accorded access to society’s opportunities.”
4. This January 15th, 2014 WE HEREBY DECLARE our support for and commitment
to the following specific SOCIAL JUSTICE PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTIVES:1.
The eradication of Poverty.
2.
Universal access to free quality education from pre-school to junior college
inclusive of free textbooks via laptop computer Technology.
3.
Universal access to free quality basic healthcare and medicines for all
Belizeans who qualify under a National Roll-out of the NATIONAL HEALTH
INSURANCE PROGRAM.
4.
A growing economy with new jobs, new industries, new investments, new
opportunities for Belizeans to lead lives of dignity providing for their own
families.
5.
An equitable non-political WELFARE TO WORK program providing food,
housing, clothing assistance, and skills training to those most vulnerable and
in need.

Expansion of the Social Security Program to provide for a non-contributory
Pension Scheme for all Belizeans, male and female, Seventy (70) years
of age and above and having no other source of income.
7.
Once and for all beginning the process of de-politicizing the distribution of
lands thereby providing the best opportunity for all Belizeans over the
age of 18 to have equal access to ownership of a parcel of land in Belize.
8.
Providing for a Minimum Wage Adjustment every three (3) years to compen
sate for increases in the cost of living as is necessary.
9.
A comprehensive review of national legislation to better protect the rights and
dignity of those with special needs among us, particularly those less abled
and visually impaired.
10.
The right of all Belizeans to equal protection of the law and to freedom of
expression in accordance with their cultural and spiritual beliefs.
6. Words are never enough
but let no one doubt our resolve.
The People’s United Party SHALL enshrine
these principles into the three (3) pillars of the
NEW REVOLUTION (Governance, Economic
and education Reform), and thereafter into the
policies, legislation and actions of the next PUP
Government so that all Belizeans can enjoy a
good quality of life in a just, peaceful society and
share responsibility for the building of a stronger,
better nation.
