Nursing A Concept Analysis Paper
Theory can be defined as the explanation of an event in which constructs and concepts are
identified, relationships are proposed and predictions are made; it is a set of interpretative
assumptions, principals or propositions that help explain or guide action. (McEwen & Wills, 2014,
p521) Concepts occur in three steps; originating as a thought which are abstract or concrete in
nature, progressing to a stage in which words and meaning are given to the concept, and lastly it is
operationalized becoming a variable to be used tested during research. (McEwen & Wills, 2014,
p50) According to McEwen, & Wills, (2014), a concept analysis identifies, clarifies and explores the
meaning of concepts in order to promote understanding which aids in the development of conceptual
frameworks, theories and research studies. (p55) Concepts relative to nursing include quality of life,
blood pressure, hope, job satisfaction and pain.

In "Patient outcomes in the field of nursing: A concept analysis", researches completed a concept
analysis on job satisfaction as a means to make managers aware that the nursing workforce should
be stabilizes especially in a time of a world–wide nursing shortage. (Liu, Aungsuroch, and
Yunibhand, 2016, p84) Researchers completed this analysis by utilizing the Walker and Avant
concept analysis model. The Walker and Avant model, established in 2011, is comprised of eight
steps: a) selecting a concept, b) determining the purpose or aim of the analysis, c) identify all
possible uses of the concept, d) determine the essential attributes, e) construct an example of the
concept in use, f) construct illegitimate, related, contrary, borderline, and invented examples, g)
identify antecedents and consequences, and h) define empirical referents. (McEwen & Wills, 2014,

Concept Analysis : Walker And Avant
Concept has been defined as "symbolic statement describing a phenomena or class of phenomena
(Kim, 2000,p.15). It can be theoretical or non theoretical like hope, love and desire or body
temperature, pain (McEwen& Willis, 2011) the words like grief, empathy, power, job satisfaction or
a phrase like health promoting behaviors or maternal attachment. Concept analysis refers to the
rigorous process of bringing clarity to the definition of the concept used in science (McEwen &
Willis, p, 51). According to McEwen (2011), the purpose of concept analysis is to clarify, recognize,
and define concepts that describe phenomena.
Method of analysis
There are several methods of analyzing the concepts. The purpose of concept analysis is to help the
nurses to identify the trends and development in patient care. In depth analysis of these trends and
developments helps to formulate measures to provide holistic patient care ("Grand canyon
university"2013). Walker and Avant introduced the process of concept analysis in nursing in
1983.Walker and Avant (2005). They are concept analysis; concept synthesis and concept derivation
explained three different processes to analyze the concept in nursing. According to McEwen (2011)
Walker and Avant use concept analysis to clarify meanings of terms and define concepts with an
excepted outcome of readers and writers communicating in a common language. The Walker and

Research Paper: Content Analysis of Nine Creative Concepts...
1 MAIN ISSUE
This research is a quantitative, cross–sectional, exploratory and descriptive content analysis of
selected advertisements from two different magazines published in August 2012 using the nine
different creative concepts as main emphasis.
2 RESEARCH CRITERIA
The main research problem deals with the use of creative concepts in advertisements which is a
mass media issue and therefore contributes to the existing knowledge in communication studies. The
issue is also of interest to the researcher as a media studies student. The main issue is researchable
because it can be resolved by the collection of evidence. The research is feasible as the magazines
relating to the problem area of the research are within the means of ... Show more content on

Content analysis is a research technique focused on the actual content of media texts including
internal features. Du Plooy, GM (2009:261–264) identifies eight creative concepts: Provoking
curiosity– in this creative concept a desire to understand something unusual is provoked by the body
copy,' for an example', in a Jaguar advertisement the body copy implies that the XF, XJ and XK
models of Jaguar do things that machines cannot do.
Promising a new or existing benefit for the user– in this creative concept the user of the product is
promised an additional benefit for using or purchasing a product. 'For an example', the DKNY
perfume advertisement promises an additional benefit to users. The advertisement claims a
partnership with an organisation (CARE) that is helping to lift women all over the world out of
poverty and as a result the fragrance is portrayed rightly so as more than a fragrance.
Amplification of the product– this creative concept is used to explain or describe an element of the
product that is not obvious. In an advertisement of FOREVER MARK diamonds, amplification
concept is applied when the advertisement explains that the Forever Mark diamonds carry an
exclusive Forever mark which according to the body copy only less than one percent of the world's
diamonds can carry that inscription or mark.
Endorsing product claims– in this creative concept the advertisement support

The Dissection Of A Poorly Defined Concept
In searching for understanding in nursing, the dissection of a poorly defined concept often results in
subsequent reflection and action toward comprehension (Bousso, Poles, & De Almeida Lopes
Monteiro Da Cruz, 2014). Greater nursing knowledge is gained through the clarification of
ambiguous concepts by exhaustive examination of particularly clinically relevant phenomenon. This
knowledge can then be later extrapolated to develop new theories or simply be reformulated to
refine concepts (Bousso et al., 2014). In analyzing quality of life (QOL), this writing attempts to
reveal a more solidified and practical definition by evaluating the concepts common themes across
various literature sources. The concepts universal attributes, ... Show more content on

The dimensions were specifically chosen to allow measurement through specific indicators and
included both objective and subjective factors. The subjective factors focused primarily on
perceptions of cognitive appreciation, emotional states and the presence of meaning and purpose
(Eurostat, 2015).
A bit more simply, the Global Development and Research Center defines QOL as subjective well–
being that is directly correlated with the difference between hope and expectation of a person and
their immediate life experience (Global Development Research Center [GDRC], n.d.).
The United States Environmental Protection Agency defines and measures the QOL as happiness
and subjective expression of well–being with a focus on life satisfaction, positive experiences and
emotions and the absence of negative experiences and emotions (Organisation for Economic Co–
operation and Development [OEDC], n.d.). Finally, a systemic review of the analysis of QOL in
nursing yields no specific definition, but rather alludes to particular dimensions and facets that,
when combined, comprise QOL (Fulton, Miller, & Otte, 2012). The facets mentioned include both
subjective and objective dimensions that concentrate on an individual sense of well–being, personal
values, happiness, satisfaction and functioning (Fulton et al., 2012).
In healthcare, the centers for disease control define QOL as a multidimensional concept that

Nurse Mentoring Concept Analysis Response
Nurse Mentoring Concept Analysis Response
Introduction
According to McEwen and Wills, concepts in the nursing profession are words that describe a
variable of nursing practice (2014, pg. 50). Concepts, once defined, are used in research to test
hypotheses that will increase knowledge and theory development. However, concept definitions
change with time and context. Therefore, it is important to thoroughly and succinctly define
concepts within an analysis for a meaningful application.
Mentoring in nursing practice has been thought of as a beneficial way of increasing nursing
knowledge for several decades (Stewart & Krueger, 1996, pg. 311). However, the concept of
mentoring had not been defined or analyzed, which made researching its effectiveness useless. This
concept analysis of mentoring in nursing practice shows that mentoring can be mutually beneficial
for a mentor, protégé, and nursing practice. However, further research on this concept is necessary to
determine the broader application to nursing as a scientific discipline.
Method of Analysis
In the concept analysis of mentoring, Stewart and Krueger used the evolutionary method by Rodgers
(Stewart & Krueger, 1996, pg. 312). This method involves multiple steps of analysis that are often
occurring concurrently rather than completing a step after one is completed. The benefit of this
method is that it has clear phases in the analytical process but is time efficient because steps are
occurring at the same time. It also

What Is Concept Change
What is concept change? For example, the article A General Overview of Conceptual Change
Research says, "It is important to understand that those who are involved in the conceptual change
research domain are concerned about much more than simply altering a particular belief. If this were
not the case, then it could be argued that conceptual change occurs every time someone changes his
or her mind, or learns something new about a certain issue act" (Ruhf, 2003, P.1). This shows that a
one person can have a change over time. Concept change doesn't just happen over a day, it happens
over a long period of time. For example, Concept change is like building a puzzle and it takes time.

Main Concepts Of Metaphors
The linguists have been trying to define metaphor and what it represents since the times of Aristotle.
He is considered to be the first to discuss and describe the metaphor in his "Poetics". Aristotle's
work made the foundation for the classical views of metaphor. However, it is obvious that, in spite
of different approaches, all the definitions are concerned with the key elements of comparison and
similarity. Firstly, it is important to discuss how different authors and dictionaries define the concept
of the metaphor. Also, it would be interesting to introduce a few definitions of the metaphor by
famous authors.
Metaphor is interesting not only for linguists, but also it receives a lot of attention from other
various science specialists. Usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A. Richards introduced his conception of metaphor. The scholar criticized the Greek philosopher's
"ornamental theory" and claimed that "metaphor relies on a complex interaction of thoughts, rather
than a process of linguistic substitutions". Max Black in his „Models and Metaphors" examines
metaphor at the level of the statement as a whole in order to account for a change in meaning that is
centred in the word. For Black, a term functions as a metaphor only a statement because a statement
is the fundamental semantic unit. Also, Black suggests that every view which is based on
understanding that metaphor implies the demonstration of resemblance can be ascribed to the
comparison theory. He explains that this point of view treats metaphor as an elliptic or compressed
comparison. He also points out that according to the comparison theory the metaphoric utterance
can be replaced by an equivalent comparison. (Black ct. in Ortony, 1979). Metaphor was considered
a figure of style and rhetorical decoration for a long time, here metaphor does not convey any
information and appears merely as a stylistic ornament, but from the middle of the 20th century
metaphor was started to treat as the principle of thinking, knowledge of the world and the way of
perception (Gibbs, 2008,

Paulo Freire's The Banking Concept of Education Essay...
Paulo Freire's The Banking Concept of Education
In his essay "The 'Banking' Concept of Education", Paulo Freire condemns the current beliefs about
education, and argues strongly to support his own, new, and somewhat radical ideas about how he
believes education should work. It is clear from his writing that he wishes to convey very strong
feelings in this essay. At the very beginning, after a very brief description of the "current" education,
he states that "education is suffering from narration sickness" (212), and later continues to say that
in our current system "[words] become a hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity" (212). These
statements, especially at the very beginning of the author's analysis, convey an amount of ... Show

He accomplishes this with much fanfare, denouncing the "banking" concept as much as possible to
gain advantage in the readers' minds with his new revolutionary concepts.
Only in the end of his essay does Freire focus more on his own system, and explain its privileges
without resorting to the faults of the currents system, but even then he uses the latter tactic several
times. The essay ends on a political note, calling the new revolutionaries to realize what the name
they call themselves means, and to change the current ways not only on the outside, as they have
done before, but also internally to make radical changes to their philosophy and their ideas about
education. This concluding device stirs up some doubts as to the point of the whole essay. It might
seem from the author's concluding point that the underlying purpose of the essay was not to expand
on the more beneficial ways of education, but to criticize the ways of political leaders in his, or
some other country. Nevertheless, the rest of the essay shows little evidence of such a plot, and this
point is at best marginal.
One of the passages that is impressive in its ability to appeal to the reader uses a few unique
techniques. Some are the introduction of new concepts where "the teacher–of–the–students and the
students–of–the–teacher cease to exist and a new term emerges: teacher–students with students–
teacher" (218). Here the author uses new words that he invented himself to

Eight Interlocking Theoretical Concepts On Personality And...
Eight Interlocking Theoretical Concepts
Bowen's theory is influenced by eight interlocking theoretical concepts to explain the family unit's
emotional functioning (H. Goldenberg & L. Goldenberg, 2013). The interlocking concepts explain
the process of emotions within the family system as they are developed throughout the generations
(Wineck, 2010). One must fully understand each concept individually in order to fully grasp the
impact within the family unit (H. Goldenberg & L. Goldenberg, 2013). Concepts one through five
were Bowen's original theoretical viewpoints (Baege, 2006). According to Bowen (1976), his sixth
concept was rooted in Walter Toman's Family Constellation: It 's Effect on Personality and Social
Behavior publication from 1961. In 1975, the final two concepts were developed and added to
complete the entire eight interlocking theoretical concepts (Bowen, 1976). Bowen never published
or created any work on a ninth concept; however, spirituality was mentioned as a possibility for a
ninth concept. Spirituality concept is an undeveloped concept with promise, particularly within the
field of addiction studies. Underneath every concept is the basic assumption that chronic anxiety
prompts the development of each concept premise (H. Goldenberg & L. Goldenberg, 2013). These
interlocking constructs are known as differentiation of self, triangles, nuclear family emotional

applied for the refinement and definition of concepts originating from nursing practice, nursing
research and nursing theory (Maputle & Donavon, 2013), which helps to differentiate between
similar and dissimilar concepts. Walker and Avant assert that concept analysis and development are
fundamental processes required by nurse researchers who are attempting to measure the
metaphysical phenomena of nursing, or in this study the midwifery practice. The framework
suggested by Walker and Avant was used for the analysis described in this research. The method of
research included:

The Concepts Of At Risk And Risk Of Young People 's Lives...
Introduction
The concepts of 'at–risk' and 'risk' are prominent in much of the literature on the sociology of youth.
The objective of this essay is to explore the positive and negative sides of focusing on risk in young
people's lives, and contend that although the concepts may help us to understand youth behaviours,
there is a need to be cautious in its implementation, as they carry a number of implicit assumptions.
Firstly, the approaches of 'at–risk' and 'risk taking' are defined; in order to understand the different
ways the concepts are related to young people. These positive aspects include of the identification of
'at–risk' youth for prevention measures and Stephen Lyng's edgework notion to comprehend
individuals' voluntary 'risk taking'. Secondly, discussions the usefulness of the concepts in
promoting our comprehension of young individuals' behaviours are provided. Lastly, limitations of
the approaches are discussed to highlight the precautions needed when applying the concepts, as it
may lead to placing the blame on 'at–risk' youth, higher degree of scrutiny for young women than
their men and the normalised assumption on behalf of the 'risk taking' notion.
The concepts of 'at–risk' and 'risk taking'
There are two main concepts in the literatures of the sociology of youth, which linked risk and
young people together. The first concept is 'at–risk' and the term is often used to identify or describe
young people who, due to difficulties and disadvantaged situations,

Today's nursing profession encompasses a variety of specialties and disciplines that demonstrate a
wide range of phenomena. According to McEwin and Willis, in clinical practice, those phenomenon
that are frequently seen aid advanced practice nurses in developing interventions and clinical
protocols because they are said to be stable and reliable components of the practical nursing

123). There are numerous approaches of creating meaning for concepts based on literature review,
academic critique, and providing precise operational definition of said concepts (McEwin &
Willis, 2011). Walker and Avant developed the concept analysis approach selected in this article in
1983, which is a concept analysis method based upon Wilson's method from the 1960's (McEwin
& Willis, 2011). Walker and Avant's method "provides a systematic approach to analyze
relatively new concepts" (Bruggemann et al., 2012, p. 124), and is comprised of three different
processes: concept analysis, concept synthesis, and concept derivation (McEwin & Willis,
2011, p. 54). The concept analysis process is broken down into eight different steps that will allow
defined terms to be presented in a common language (McEwin & Willis, 2011, pg. 54, para. 2).
Additionally, the concept synthesis process is utilized when concepts need to be developed further
and can be broken down into three subcategories: qualitative synthesis, quantitative synthesis, and
literary synthesis (McEwin & Willis, 2011, pg. 54, para. 3). Furthermore, the concept
derivation process is useful when generating innovative ways of thinking about an occurrence when
few concepts are available and is comprised of a four–step design (McEwin & Willis, 2011, pg.
55, para. 1).
As stated above, Walker and Avant's process of concept analysis is described as an eight part process

The American Dream Is A Flawed Concept
The American Dream is a flawed concept, a deceptive motivator, which promotes fantasy and
unrealistic capitalist goals (ideals) of success, while disregarding the immense costs. The American
Dream, conceptualized among early American frontiersmen deeply impacted societal thinking and
motivation. America meant "more". More ideas, more possibilities, more space, more land, and
finally, more success. This concept is timeless for Americans and aspiring American citizens. The
American Dream can be broken down into two pieces, the illusion and reality of the dream. The
white picket fence, a classic symbol which represents the American Dream of owning private
(protected) property and raising a family, was an expensive decoration during the colonial era,
which many Americans desired. This symbol was maintained through early cinema and
advertisements and is well known internationally as a symbol for new opportunity in America. This
is the illusion of the American Dream. The financial success required to purchase this dream home is
far more expensive than it looks. The Average price of a home in the United States was $361,600 in
July 2015 (U.S. Census), while the average household income of 2013 was only $52,250. Some may
think highly of this number, however, it is far from being close enough to afford an average home.
This is the painful reality of the American Dream. For most people, in order to obtain this dream,
one has to enter the workforce and dream of promotion, getting

Application Of Concept Of The Current Job Essay
4.0 APPLICATION OF CONCEPT OF THE CURRENT JOB
4.1 Research Problem
In the current job, research problem development is mandatory; no way can a nurse render quality
services without doing research in his or her area of work,
One may not need a very big project to his area of concern, but once I see any ambiguous issue
within the ward, to client and client's family under my care I have to investigate it before trying to
tackle it this makes research problem be applicable in current job of mine and other nurses.
4.2 Research Hypothesis No researcher does the research on clean plate, each topic has causal and
one makes assumption on it to some extent, the researcher will use hypothesis only to generate new
ideas about the study under way. Hypothesis in other words is an assumption for the research, the
researchers organizes his or her ideas and critically thinks what could be the reasons for the stated
research questions; thinking of the reasons or possible causal is referred to as hypothesis. Generally
hypothesis give cruel before the study starts and the results of the study will be directed to confirm
or reject the stated hypothesis.
4.3 Literature review:
Literature review is digging deeper to follow the roots of study topic which will show what is
already known about the topic. The literature tells story about the topic, informs any trouble or
barriers encountered during investigation and suggests steps to be followed in a new search. With

"The life of man in every part has need of harmony and rhythm" – Plato
Adapted from the Everyday Magic Exhibit at GoMA, the concept for my mini exhibit is Tranquil

together. There will be 5 collections shown in the exhibit, they are; Untitled (from webs from my
garden series) by Sandra Selig, Citizens Band by Angelica Mesiti, Untitled Cascade by Rebecca
Baumann, Assorted Spices for Dinner and Daydreams by Mieko Shiomi and Silver Screen by
Callum Morton. The artists all come together around three central ideas that being tranquillity,
rhythm and play. These central ideas will be furthermore explored. Tranquillity is the quality or state
of being calm/serene. It is a key part of the exhibition reflecting how the works combine in creating
a peaceful, calm environment. This is done through different elements, including music, calming
movements or from observation of an art piece. Citizens Band is filmed media portraying
tranquillity through audio as well as visual means. Each of the four performers produces music that
isn't particularly hard hitting but instead calm, adding to the peaceful environment of the exhibition.
The four musicians perform traditional music that may not be as familiar to the audience. This
entrances the viewer through captivating and engaging music. Selig's series represents serenity

The Concept Of Education In 'Mona Lisa Smile'
There are two ways in which one leads a classroom of young entrepreneurs of learning. These forms
of education are concreted in either a banking concept or problem posing approach. Paulo Freire, the
creator of such ideas, is a man who believes in the distinct difference that either reaps learning or
destroys it. Banking concept education, according to Freire, is an education that "becomes an act of
depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor" (Freire 244).
In simpler terms, banking concept is the lack of true understanding by students. Learning is not a
responsibility, instead it is an act to passively check off the list. In contrast, Freire speaks of problem
posing as "liberating education [that] consists in acts of cognition, not transferrals of information"
(Freire 249). To expand, Freire is bringing to light that this type of education is the development of
genuine, active understanding between teachers and students. Freire believes in critical,
investigative work between teachers and students. He believes that the banking concept restricts
growth and keeps students and teachers from a true critical understanding of the world. Both
banking concept education and problem posing education are evident in the film Mona Lisa Smile.
Mona Lisa Smile, a film set in 1953, is a vivid look into Freire's understanding of education. The
1950s, a time of distinct gender roles and spoon fed understanding, promotes an environment at the

Concept: Concept And Concept
Concept is the basic component that build up the development to our world. It can be assumed from
some specific instances or things that already existed. In some circumstances, concept is some
thoughts that people had already been thought about, and had already got some development, and
that's the difference between concept and idea. On the other hand, concept is also a more abstract
and more realistic thought. However, concept might be relying on the religion or the cultural
difference, and can cause different thought by people in different life backgrounds. Indeed, people
had discovered there are many types of concept which can be use in variety of ways. For example,
in Mathematics people can use some concepts to figure out a new way to solve problems or

organizing things and situations so that the human mind can function well and doesn't break down.
To continue with issue of the status of concept, we have three main options to identify concepts
which are mental representation, abilities and abstract objects.
Concepts as mental representations in which they contain psychological entities and their starting
point has to be from the representational theory of the mind. Where thinking happens in the internal
system of representation, in which beliefs and propositional attitudes enter into the mind as internal

According to this theory some concepts and features are better than others. This type of theory has
its connection with Wittgenstein(1953) famous remark, in which things that fall under a same
concept and share a family resemblance can cause similarities and over–lapping. The prototype
theory is there to deal and define things that are unexplained in the classical theory like lack of
definitions, objectivity. The prototype also has its disadvantages and limitations. Starting with
categorization when comparing the target object with a prototype, it fits the conceptual category if
there is enough overlap in terms of features. Another problem is compositionality. When a patently
complex concept has a prototype structure, it often has emergent properties, ones that don't derive

Self Theory And Self Concept
Self–Concept From the moment of birth, the need to communicate is evident. When babies come out
of the womb they non–verbally communicate by crying, and the crying communicates that they are
afraid and need comforting. Infants communicate in many non–verbal ways, such as pointing at
something that the infant wants or by smiling because the infant got something he or she likes. From
infancy to adulthood, communication develops into a mix of verbal and non–verbal forms.
Communication is so important that employers consistently rank it as one of the top skills they are
looking for in new hires. According to a study done by Millennial Branding, 98% of employers
considered communication to be a necessity of the job (Schawbel). One of the main, if not the most
important, influence on how society communicates is through an individual's self–concept. Self–
concept is an individual's interpretation of who they are and is developed by what they know about
themselves, and through feedback from others (DeVito 54). Self–concept affects our ability to
communicate through social comparisons, cultural teachings, others' image, and self–evaluations.
Social Comparisons According to DeVito, social comparisons are a way in which an individual
determines their value, and that value is determined through self–evaluations, where an individual
ranks themselves to fellow acquaintances (55). For instance, in my ceramics class, I compare my
skills on a potter's wheel to the other students, and

frameworks (Cline, 2015). "Concept analysis is a term that refers to the process of unfolding,
exploring, and understanding concepts for the purpose of delineation, comparison, clarification,
refinement, and validation" (Townsend & Scanlan, 2011, p.1 ). Concept analysis makes a vague or
unclear concept to clearer so that everyone shares a common language. When a theory is
conceptually analyzed, it is considered valued. Concept analysis is a method of concept
development and is a component of theory development. A major portion of the nursing theories,
research and concepts are borrowed from other disciplines, the validity of these concepts need to be
evaluated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walker and Avant's concept analysis model was used to analyze the concept of spiritual care to

on Jean Watson's caring theory. According to Watson spiritual care is the core of nursing care.
Spirituality is a critical component in nursing to provide holistic care to the patient. Even though the
increasing awareness of spiritual care present, such care is lacking in nursing (Ramezani et al.,

Even though the increasing awareness of spiritual are present, such care is lacking in nursing. In this
study, a concept analysis was performed to provide an inclusive definition of spiritual care concept
in nursing, which encompasses the first and second step of selection of concept and aim of the
concept. The study data was collected through the National and International online database. The
third step is identifying all uses of concept, in which all concepts of spiritual care was reviewed. For
an example, Florence Nightingale and Watson considered spiritual care as the core of nursing care.
According to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, spiritual care is a
prerequisite for quality care. Attributes separate a concept from other surrounding concept and
provide an insight about the interest of the concept. Seven defining attributes were identified in this
step such as healing presence, therapeutic use of self, intuitive sense, meaning–centered therapeutic
intervention, and exploration of the spiritual perspective, Patient–centeredness and creation of a
spiritually nurturing environment. The fifth step of model case identification was done by

Concept Analysis Nursing
1. Concept has diverse and dynamic meaning. It can be described or classified in various ways. It is
a symbolic statement which describes a phenomenon that occurs in nature or thought. The meaning
of concept may be abstract such as hope, desire, love or concrete such as airplane, body temperature,
pain. Concepts are expressed in a word, two words, or a phrase that allows people to communicate
their meanings about realities. For example, grief, job satisfaction, health promoting behaviors.
Similarly, these symbolic statements can directly or indirectly be seen, tasted, smelled or touched.
Concept is important approach to build theory. Concepts are used as bricks in theory building.

Some concepts are borrowed from other disciplines and some are developed directly within the
nursing field. The most commonly used concepts in nursing are i) abstract or concrete concepts ii)
variable or nonvariable concepts and iii) theoretically or operationally defined concepts. In my
opinion, abstract (general) concepts need to be defined more clearly for nursing. For example,
spiritual care. In nursing, this concept cannot be measured directly. Assessment of this concept is
based on indirect measurement. This concept is not observable directly or indirectly. This is
independent of time and space. This type of abstract concept does not have directly observable
properties. Therefore, it needs to be more explicitly defined.
Among different methods of concept analysis, Rodgers' Process of Concept Analysis looks to be the
easiest to use. This method analyzes concept through six different steps to simplify the meanings of
word/ words or phrase and to define terms(concepts). This analysis process helps writer and readers
to understand meaning of concept and share a common language. Rodger's six steps of Process of
Concept Analysis includes:
"1. Identify the concept and associated terms; 2. Select an appropriate realm (a setting or sample) for
data collection; 3. Collect data to identify the attributes of the concept and the contextual basis of the
concept; 4. Analyze the data regarding the characteristic of the concept; 5. Identify an exemplar of
the concept, if appropriate; 6. Identify hypotheses and implications for further

The Concept Of Employee Empowerment Essay
1.0 Literature Review
The concept of employee empowerment has been discussed a lot in many academic studies and in
the field of management profession for over decades. In fact, some organizations consider the idea
of empowerment as the optimum strategy in order to have the competitive benefits in the world of
professional business practices (Ghosh, 2013).
Researchers have proven that employee empowerment, which can be called the voice of employees
and participation, has a significant impact on individuals and groups on particular as well as on
organizational efficiency in general (Conger and Kanungo, 1988). In addition, there are many
practices of leadership, such as delegation, developmental leadership, and empowering leadership,
suggest that the high management of the organization share the authority in order to promote the
advantages of enforcing employee empowerment that can raise the level of employees' productivity
and positivity in the work environment (Chen, Zhang, and Wang, 2014). According to
(–––––––––––––), the level of empowerment and the level of participation are vital components of
the successful processes in any professional environment.
However, it is essential to introduce the concept behind employee empowerment idea as well as to
identify the detailed meaning of employee empowerment before we dive deeper in the main purpose
of this study. In addition, providing the main components of employee empowerment can lead to

Why The Evm Is Not Used For A Important Concept On...
I agree with to begin to collect reasons why EVM it is not used accordingly and based on that to
build up the examples. My first opinion is that EV is an important concept on measuring the
progress of the project, but not well explored as a significant tool and in such context, I think that by
knowing why the EVM is not used properly can lead toward how to use it. There are cases that PMs
know the concept but it is unusable for different reasons as well as there are many cases in which the
concept is not known. So leaving apart the second case, in which the concept is not known because
for my opinion this is the simple case, in my mere opinion, the reasons why the EVM is not used
correctly or it can not be used can be grouped by:
–The project does not have requirements at all.
–The requirements change frequently which make absolutely difficult to define correctly the budget
and the schedule.
–There are wrong estimations of working packages.
–The process of change management doesn 't work or is ineffective.
–The process of calculation Actual Cost is insufficient (reminding here cost collection).
–The incorrect progress of the project.
I am pretty sure that the reasons I mention above can be enriched to a macro level with many
arguments why the phenomena happen. Here below is a couple of examples of my of my reflections
why EVM wasn't used properly:
– The scope of "Ice on Ice" project was the upgrade of the infrastructure of the Call Centre. Lack of

Summary Of Barbara Carper's Ways Of Knowing Concepts
Nurses often have to make quick decisions, usually without adequate time to consider the entire
situation. Have you ever wondered, how a person knew what to do, seemingly without ever thinking
about it? Barbara Carper, was able to answer this question in detail with her "Ways of Knowing
Concepts", which she developed particularly for the nursing profession (Zander, 2011). A few of her
concepts will be compared to a clinical situation, personal to this author. The above question will be
explained in multiple ways so the reader will better understand Carper's concepts and how they may
apply to their own situation. This will be accomplished by: describing the clinical situation,
observing applicable concepts and then relating them to the situation, visiting how an understanding
of her concepts explains interventions and critical thinking, and how evidence affects critical
thinking and knowing. The author's experience started by caring for assigned patients in the
emergency department (ED), one who was in serious condition and needed to be monitored very
closely. Another part of that night's assignment was to participate as the code team nurse; which
responds to emergencies on all floors of the hospital. During the care of the serious patient, Code
Blue was announced over the intercom. The care of the serious patient was handed off to a
competent peer to be cared for while code team duties were attended to. Upon arrival to what was
supposed to be a cardiac event,

The Concept of Intelligence Essay
The Concept of Intelligence
ABSTRACT: Gilbert Ryle's dispositional analysis of the concept of intelligence makes the error of
assimilating intelligence to the category of dispositional or semi–dispositional concepts. Far from
being a dispositional concept, intelligence is an episodic concept that refers neither to dispositions
nor to 'knowing how,' but to a fashion or style of proceeding whose significance is adverbial. Being
derivative from the function of the adverb 'intelligently,' the concept of intelligence does not have
essential reference to specific verbs but rather to the manner or style of proceeding of nearly any
verb that is descriptive of the proceedings of an agent. Intelligence– words are expressive of a
manner of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dualist's reaction was to withdraw from the dispositional analysis and to claim that "
intelligence " can only make sense when it is ultimately linked to an alternative concept which
presumably has reference to a "process" (the existence of which may be ascertained by a subjective
avowal: intent, deliberation, reflective choice, etc.).
Whether this maneuver avoids the Rylean critique is subject to serious doubt. Each new term may
itself have a problem concerning the "metaphysical" status of its referent: whether it is a physical or
a "spiritual" process.
Another problem with this approach is that it often makes the concept of intelligence dependent on
factors that may have no more than a casual relation to its meaning: a contextual connection, for
example.
While a dispositional analysis of intelligence would effectively rescue it from entrapment inside "the
ghost in the machine" it would fail to do the concept the justice that the dualist seeks for it, and that
is to make the observation that it appears to be more an episodic than a dispositional concept.
It is in this connection that some philosophers take a critical view of Ryle's analysis. Peter Thomas
Geach, for instance, claims that reports of mental acts are categorical and are not hypothetical or
semi–hypothetical statements about overt behavior. He believes the dispositional account of
psychological concepts to be on a level with the statement that opium puts people to sleep

The Concept Of Fashion And Fashion
The concept of style, pertaining to clothes and fashion is something embedded into our everyday
lives. While many pay no attention to it, and others simply fall into the category of those who not
aware of the importance it has in our everyday lives, this does not take away from its underlying and
quiet niche in our society. The way you chose to dress and the way you do this largely depends on
your own life. For example, an older, retired gentleman will have a different style and taste than a
younger teenager. Essentially, the concept of style comes down to three key components: the ability
to practice self–expression, increasing self–esteem, and dressing for success. Before we can
understand the concept that is style, it is important to understand another concept intertwined with
style. This concept is best expressed by the president of Well Said, Inc., Darlene Price, who says,
""Let's be clear: In the big picture of ultimate reality, what you wear neither defines who you are as
a person nor determines your value as a human being." Essentially, the clothes and what a user
chooses to wear is not what will define them, but it is rather the user who defines what they are
wearing, as the person makes the clothes, and not vice versa. The reason behind this is many seem to
forget that the user of the clothes must ultimately dress for themselves and do however they please
with their style, and not attempt to conform to societal norms or to anyone that is attempting to
pressure

Application Of Concept Analysis For Clinical Practice
Application of concept analysis to clinical practice
The concept has been defined as "symbolic statement describing a phenomena or class of
phenomena "(Kim, 2000,p.15). It can be theoretical or non theoretical like hope, love and desire or
body temperature, pain (McEwen& Willis, 2011) the words like grief, empathy, power, job
satisfaction or a phrase like health promoting behaviors or maternal attachment. Concept analysis
mentions to the laborious process of bringing clarity to the definition of the concept used in science
(McEwen & Willis, p, 51). According to McEwen (2011), the purpose of the concept analysis is to
clarify, recognize, and define concepts that describe phenomena.

M Ā Ori Cultural Concepts Essay
Culture is not one distinct commodity. Culture is the integrated pattern of belief, human knowledge
and behaviour that has transcended through generations. Māori are the indigenous people of New
Zealand. Māori Culture is collectively the beliefs and ideals followed by the Māori people mainly
through tradition and legend. The culture dates back to 1250–1300 Common Era (CE) when
Polynesians migrated to the 'long white cloud' and it has remained prominent to this day due to the
practice of Māori cultural concepts. A cultural concept is a 'non tangible ideal that governs a society
and cannot be physically touched'. There are numerous Māori cultural concepts however I am
focusing on the three I believe are most important: Mana, Tapu and Utu. I will elaborate on how
these cultural concepts are important in understanding Māori culture and society.
Firstly, I will begin with how mana is important in Māori society. Mana in its simplest form is
authority and power. The sources of mana include: mana tupuna, mana whenua, mana tangata and
mana atua. Mana tupuna is power that has been attained through descent. It ties the Māori people to
their ancestors. Mana also denotes the heritage, the myths and the legends, which define their place
in the world. Mana tupuna is power through descent. It aids people in self–identification through
attaining knowledge about their descendants. This cultural concept is correlated to Whakapapa, or
genealogy. Through reciting whakapapa, Māori are able to

Concept Analysis Of Effectiveness In Nursing
Concept Analysis of Effectiveness
Effectiveness, as a concept, is important to nursing. What actions nurses take and do can make a
difference in care and determine whether or not care or treatment is effective. According to Rodgers
(2015) concepts are important in portraying the character and scope of a discipline (Butts & Rich,
2015). However, defining what effectiveness as a concept is, is not unique to nursing. To create a
better understanding of the concept of effectiveness, a glimpse at other discipline's and their
incorporation of the term is beneficial. Isolating the term and the definitions create a basis for
understanding the role of effectiveness. This paper will define the term effectiveness across multiple

2. There is a completion of a successful mission.
3. There are positive outcomes identified.
4. The desired effect is achieved, creating a model for further improvement and modifications.
Case Examples
Walker and Avant (2005) analysis methods advise applying case examples to represent the meaning
of a concept. Each of the following cases will further define and create understanding of the concept
of effectiveness. First is a model case, showing an ideal use of the concepts. Next will be cases that
are similar in a fashion, but not ideal. Finally will be a contrary case, exemplifying what the concept
is not. Conclusion In conclusion, effectiveness is a large part of nursing, making improvements in
overall health care of patients. The review of effectiveness through definitions, spanning several
different disciplines, gives a solid foundation for understanding the concept. The further building
blocks of the descriptive words, specific to the term effectiveness and case studies, is essential to the
nursing profession to appreciate the concept and provide continued effectiveness in

Sociological Concepts Of Family, Gender, And Identity Essay
This essay discusses the way in which I understand the sociological concepts of family, gender and
race – nuclear family, doing gender, and identity, in particular. Arguably, these three concepts can
relate to each individuals life, through different personal experiences. To demonstrate my argument,
I highlight relevant situations in my own life that further explain my chosen sociological concepts.
The first concept I chose to focus on is family. In particular, the idea of the 'nuclear family'.
A nuclear family is defined as: 'A couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social
unit.' My research of this concept will focus on the theories of two sociologists – George Peter
Murdock, and Talcott Parsons. George Murdock's theory suggests that there are four essential
functions of an ideal family. 1. Stable satisfaction of the sex drive, 2. The biological reproduction of
the next generation, 3. Socialisation of the young, 4. Meeting its members economic needs
(Thompson, 2014). According to Murdock, these four components are what keep the structure of the
basic family unit intact, and by achieving these four functions create an ideal family model. An
opposing theory is Talcott Parson's functional fit theory. Parson suggests that as society evolves,
alternative forms of family life become more accepted. Society has progressed so much that single
parents providing for their children is as normal as a nuclear family, and there tends to be less need
for extended

A Concept Analysis On Compassion Fatigue
I. Background and Significance
II. Meaning in Published Works
III. Purpose
The purpose of conducting a concept analysis is to divide the components of a concept into separate
individual parts for evaluation and clarification. Analysis of the internal structure, defining aspects,
characteristics and interrelationships to the other components can be achieved by conducting a
concept analysis. The basic purpose is a process to discover the similarities and differences between
concepts (Walker & Avant, 2005). The intent of the concept analysis on the subject of compassion
fatigue is to evaluate compassion fatigue in nursing and to determine the current conceptual use in
efforts to clarify the relevance to nurses. The aim is to identify how the concept is currently utilized
and how it could potentially be utilized in the future.
IV. Definitions and Defining Attributes
A. Compassion fatigue in nursing is defined as the resultant distress and physical experiences that
occur when continuously caring for others, usually in highly stressful situations (Sheppard, 2015).
Burnout and secondary traumatic stress disorder are terms identified in the literature as having
affiliations with compassion fatigue. Burnout is a physical and mental exhaustion that occurs as a
gradual result of working in hostile and demanding environments or under stress. Secondary
traumatic stress disorder is a traumatic reaction that occurs due to witnessing the suffering of others
(Hinderer et al., 2014).

Growth Mind Concept Essay
Our children are the future of our country. The education they receive is crucial. Our children should

into the classroom and flooding them with positivity. Phrases like "I can't", will be in the past if this
concept can be implemented early on. This concept can transform these students' mindsets both at

The Concept of Personal Identity
Personal Identity in philosophy refers to a person's self–perception, ones belief about who they are
and how they differ form others. Locke and Hume both share their ideas about Personal identity and
although they might both drastically differ they are still both puzzling. Locke's theory on personal
identity has to do with what make a person the same person over time, and to Locke remaining the
same person doesn't necessarily mean remaining the same physically. "For, since consciousness
always accompanies thinking, and it is that which makes every one to be what he calls self, and
thereby distinguishes himself from all other thinking things, in this alone consists personal identity"
(53). He believes that personal identity and consciousness go hand in hand, he thinks personal
identity is conceived through ones awareness of current thoughts and actions. You are who you are
because of your thoughts and memories. Locke believes that the only accommodation that should be
encountered in order for a person to still have their identity is the awareness of past experiences.
They must be able to remember there past experiences in order for them to preserve their identity.
Locke discusses the possibility of two forms having the same consciousness. He claims that these
two forms, because they have the same memories, experiences, and consciousness must be the same
person. Locke's is trying to tell us that a person can indeed inhabit two different men. An objection

The Concept Of Discovery In Rainbows's End By Jane...
Can Discovery truly allows us to view life in a new and fresh way? Due to the complex and abstract
nature of the concept of discovery, a true sense of discovery harbour's the ability to incite
individuals in many differentiating ways as it can be provoked through their different past

the protagonists of both the indigenous play "Rainbows end" composed by Jane Harrison, and also
through the novel "The fault in our stars" authored by John Green.

Nursing A Concept Analysis Paper

  • 1. Nursing A Concept Analysis Paper Theory can be defined as the explanation of an event in which constructs and concepts are identified, relationships are proposed and predictions are made; it is a set of interpretative assumptions, principals or propositions that help explain or guide action. (McEwen & Wills, 2014, p521) Concepts occur in three steps; originating as a thought which are abstract or concrete in nature, progressing to a stage in which words and meaning are given to the concept, and lastly it is operationalized becoming a variable to be used tested during research. (McEwen & Wills, 2014, p50) According to McEwen, & Wills, (2014), a concept analysis identifies, clarifies and explores the meaning of concepts in order to promote understanding which aids in the development of conceptual frameworks, theories and research studies. (p55) Concepts relative to nursing include quality of life, blood pressure, hope, job satisfaction and pain. Method of Analysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In "Patient outcomes in the field of nursing: A concept analysis", researches completed a concept analysis on job satisfaction as a means to make managers aware that the nursing workforce should be stabilizes especially in a time of a world–wide nursing shortage. (Liu, Aungsuroch, and Yunibhand, 2016, p84) Researchers completed this analysis by utilizing the Walker and Avant concept analysis model. The Walker and Avant model, established in 2011, is comprised of eight steps: a) selecting a concept, b) determining the purpose or aim of the analysis, c) identify all possible uses of the concept, d) determine the essential attributes, e) construct an example of the concept in use, f) construct illegitimate, related, contrary, borderline, and invented examples, g) identify antecedents and consequences, and h) define empirical referents. • 3. Concept Analysis : Walker And Avant Concept has been defined as "symbolic statement describing a phenomena or class of phenomena (Kim, 2000,p.15). It can be theoretical or non theoretical like hope, love and desire or body temperature, pain (McEwen& Willis, 2011) the words like grief, empathy, power, job satisfaction or a phrase like health promoting behaviors or maternal attachment. Concept analysis refers to the rigorous process of bringing clarity to the definition of the concept used in science (McEwen & Willis, p, 51). According to McEwen (2011), the purpose of concept analysis is to clarify, recognize, and define concepts that describe phenomena. Method of analysis There are several methods of analyzing the concepts. The purpose of concept analysis is to help the nurses to identify the trends and development in patient care. In depth analysis of these trends and developments helps to formulate measures to provide holistic patient care ("Grand canyon university"2013). Walker and Avant introduced the process of concept analysis in nursing in 1983.Walker and Avant (2005). They are concept analysis; concept synthesis and concept derivation explained three different processes to analyze the concept in nursing. According to McEwen (2011) Walker and Avant use concept analysis to clarify meanings of terms and define concepts with an excepted outcome of readers and writers communicating in a common language. • 5. Research Paper: Content Analysis of Nine Creative Concepts... 1 MAIN ISSUE This research is a quantitative, cross–sectional, exploratory and descriptive content analysis of selected advertisements from two different magazines published in August 2012 using the nine different creative concepts as main emphasis. 2 RESEARCH CRITERIA The main research problem deals with the use of creative concepts in advertisements which is a mass media issue and therefore contributes to the existing knowledge in communication studies. The issue is also of interest to the researcher as a media studies student. The main issue is researchable because it can be resolved by the collection of evidence. The research is feasible as the magazines relating to the problem area of the research are within the means of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Content analysis is a research technique focused on the actual content of media texts including internal features. Du Plooy, GM (2009:261–264) identifies eight creative concepts: Provoking curiosity– in this creative concept a desire to understand something unusual is provoked by the body copy,' for an example', in a Jaguar advertisement the body copy implies that the XF, XJ and XK models of Jaguar do things that machines cannot do. Promising a new or existing benefit for the user– in this creative concept the user of the product is promised an additional benefit for using or purchasing a product. 'For an example', the DKNY perfume advertisement promises an additional benefit to users. The advertisement claims a partnership with an organisation (CARE) that is helping to lift women all over the world out of poverty and as a result the fragrance is portrayed rightly so as more than a fragrance. Amplification of the product– this creative concept is used to explain or describe an element of the product that is not obvious. In an advertisement of FOREVER MARK diamonds, amplification concept is applied when the advertisement explains that the Forever Mark diamonds carry an exclusive Forever mark which according to the body copy only less than one percent of the world's diamonds can carry that inscription or mark. • 7. The Dissection Of A Poorly Defined Concept In searching for understanding in nursing, the dissection of a poorly defined concept often results in subsequent reflection and action toward comprehension (Bousso, Poles, & De Almeida Lopes Monteiro Da Cruz, 2014). Greater nursing knowledge is gained through the clarification of ambiguous concepts by exhaustive examination of particularly clinically relevant phenomenon. This knowledge can then be later extrapolated to develop new theories or simply be reformulated to refine concepts (Bousso et al., 2014). In analyzing quality of life (QOL), this writing attempts to reveal a more solidified and practical definition by evaluating the concepts common themes across various literature sources. The concepts universal attributes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dimensions were specifically chosen to allow measurement through specific indicators and included both objective and subjective factors. The subjective factors focused primarily on perceptions of cognitive appreciation, emotional states and the presence of meaning and purpose (Eurostat, 2015). A bit more simply, the Global Development and Research Center defines QOL as subjective well– being that is directly correlated with the difference between hope and expectation of a person and their immediate life experience (Global Development Research Center [GDRC], n.d.). The United States Environmental Protection Agency defines and measures the QOL as happiness and subjective expression of well–being with a focus on life satisfaction, positive experiences and emotions and the absence of negative experiences and emotions (Organisation for Economic Co– operation and Development [OEDC], n.d.). Finally, a systemic review of the analysis of QOL in nursing yields no specific definition, but rather alludes to particular dimensions and facets that, when combined, comprise QOL (Fulton, Miller, & Otte, 2012). The facets mentioned include both subjective and objective dimensions that concentrate on an individual sense of well–being, personal values, happiness, satisfaction and functioning (Fulton et al., 2012). In healthcare, the centers for disease control define QOL as a multidimensional concept that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Nurse Mentoring Concept Analysis Response Nurse Mentoring Concept Analysis Response Introduction According to McEwen and Wills, concepts in the nursing profession are words that describe a variable of nursing practice (2014, pg. 50). Concepts, once defined, are used in research to test hypotheses that will increase knowledge and theory development. However, concept definitions change with time and context. Therefore, it is important to thoroughly and succinctly define concepts within an analysis for a meaningful application. Mentoring in nursing practice has been thought of as a beneficial way of increasing nursing knowledge for several decades (Stewart & Krueger, 1996, pg. 311). However, the concept of mentoring had not been defined or analyzed, which made researching its effectiveness useless. This concept analysis of mentoring in nursing practice shows that mentoring can be mutually beneficial for a mentor, protégé, and nursing practice. However, further research on this concept is necessary to determine the broader application to nursing as a scientific discipline. Method of Analysis In the concept analysis of mentoring, Stewart and Krueger used the evolutionary method by Rodgers (Stewart & Krueger, 1996, pg. 312). This method involves multiple steps of analysis that are often occurring concurrently rather than completing a step after one is completed. The benefit of this method is that it has clear phases in the analytical process but is time efficient because steps are occurring at the same time. It also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. What Is Concept Change What is concept change? For example, the article A General Overview of Conceptual Change Research says, "It is important to understand that those who are involved in the conceptual change research domain are concerned about much more than simply altering a particular belief. If this were not the case, then it could be argued that conceptual change occurs every time someone changes his or her mind, or learns something new about a certain issue act" (Ruhf, 2003, P.1). This shows that a one person can have a change over time. Concept change doesn't just happen over a day, it happens over a long period of time. For example, Concept change is like building a puzzle and it takes time. In the article in the beginning of this class I didn't really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Main Concepts Of Metaphors The linguists have been trying to define metaphor and what it represents since the times of Aristotle. He is considered to be the first to discuss and describe the metaphor in his "Poetics". Aristotle's work made the foundation for the classical views of metaphor. However, it is obvious that, in spite of different approaches, all the definitions are concerned with the key elements of comparison and similarity. Firstly, it is important to discuss how different authors and dictionaries define the concept of the metaphor. Also, it would be interesting to introduce a few definitions of the metaphor by famous authors. Metaphor is interesting not only for linguists, but also it receives a lot of attention from other various science specialists. Usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A. Richards introduced his conception of metaphor. The scholar criticized the Greek philosopher's "ornamental theory" and claimed that "metaphor relies on a complex interaction of thoughts, rather than a process of linguistic substitutions". Max Black in his „Models and Metaphors" examines metaphor at the level of the statement as a whole in order to account for a change in meaning that is centred in the word. For Black, a term functions as a metaphor only a statement because a statement is the fundamental semantic unit. Also, Black suggests that every view which is based on understanding that metaphor implies the demonstration of resemblance can be ascribed to the comparison theory. He explains that this point of view treats metaphor as an elliptic or compressed comparison. He also points out that according to the comparison theory the metaphoric utterance can be replaced by an equivalent comparison. (Black ct. in Ortony, 1979). Metaphor was considered a figure of style and rhetorical decoration for a long time, here metaphor does not convey any information and appears merely as a stylistic ornament, but from the middle of the 20th century metaphor was started to treat as the principle of thinking, knowledge of the world and the way of perception (Gibbs, 2008, ... • 15. Paulo Freire's The Banking Concept of Education Essay... Paulo Freire's The Banking Concept of Education In his essay "The 'Banking' Concept of Education", Paulo Freire condemns the current beliefs about education, and argues strongly to support his own, new, and somewhat radical ideas about how he believes education should work. It is clear from his writing that he wishes to convey very strong feelings in this essay. At the very beginning, after a very brief description of the "current" education, he states that "education is suffering from narration sickness" (212), and later continues to say that in our current system "[words] become a hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity" (212). These statements, especially at the very beginning of the author's analysis, convey an amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He accomplishes this with much fanfare, denouncing the "banking" concept as much as possible to gain advantage in the readers' minds with his new revolutionary concepts. Only in the end of his essay does Freire focus more on his own system, and explain its privileges without resorting to the faults of the currents system, but even then he uses the latter tactic several times. The essay ends on a political note, calling the new revolutionaries to realize what the name they call themselves means, and to change the current ways not only on the outside, as they have done before, but also internally to make radical changes to their philosophy and their ideas about education. This concluding device stirs up some doubts as to the point of the whole essay. It might seem from the author's concluding point that the underlying purpose of the essay was not to expand on the more beneficial ways of education, but to criticize the ways of political leaders in his, or some other country. Nevertheless, the rest of the essay shows little evidence of such a plot, and this point is at best marginal. One of the passages that is impressive in its ability to appeal to the reader uses a few unique techniques. Some are the introduction of new concepts where "the teacher–of–the–students and the students–of–the–teacher cease to exist and a new term emerges: teacher–students with students– teacher" (218). Here the author uses new words that he invented himself to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Eight Interlocking Theoretical Concepts On Personality And... Eight Interlocking Theoretical Concepts Bowen's theory is influenced by eight interlocking theoretical concepts to explain the family unit's emotional functioning (H. Goldenberg & L. Goldenberg, 2013). The interlocking concepts explain the process of emotions within the family system as they are developed throughout the generations (Wineck, 2010). One must fully understand each concept individually in order to fully grasp the impact within the family unit (H. Goldenberg & L. Goldenberg, 2013). Concepts one through five were Bowen's original theoretical viewpoints (Baege, 2006). According to Bowen (1976), his sixth concept was rooted in Walter Toman's Family Constellation: It 's Effect on Personality and Social Behavior publication from 1961. In 1975, the final two concepts were developed and added to complete the entire eight interlocking theoretical concepts (Bowen, 1976). Bowen never published or created any work on a ninth concept; however, spirituality was mentioned as a possibility for a ninth concept. Spirituality concept is an undeveloped concept with promise, particularly within the field of addiction studies. Underneath every concept is the basic assumption that chronic anxiety prompts the development of each concept premise (H. Goldenberg & L. Goldenberg, 2013). These interlocking constructs are known as differentiation of self, triangles, nuclear family emotional system, family projection, process, emotional cutoff, multigenerational transmission process, sibling ... Woman–centered care is a philosophy of care which gives priority to the wishes and needs of the female patient during labor, to improve the women's ability to make informed choices about many aspects of their care and birthing process. The concept should be clear and distinct, unambiguously defined and well differentiated from other concepts, and should be applicable to the world and appropriate in context. Concept analysis is applied for the refinement and definition of concepts originating from nursing practice, nursing research and nursing theory (Maputle & Donavon, 2013), which helps to differentiate between similar and dissimilar concepts. Walker and Avant assert that concept analysis and development are fundamental processes required by nurse researchers who are attempting to measure the metaphysical phenomena of nursing, or in this study the midwifery practice. The framework suggested by Walker and Avant was used for the analysis described in this research. The method of research included: Selection of the concept Specification of the aims of analysis Identification of uses, characteristics of the concept Determination and definition of attributes Development of model cases which exemplify the analysis Identification of antecedents and consequences Definition of empirical referents (McEwen & Willis, 2011 p.54) A study 'Experiences of childbirth by mothers at the tertiary hospital in Limpopo Province' was conducted (Maputle & Nolte 2008), and experiences of the mothers during childbirth revealed the major concept 'woman–centered care'. • 21. The Concepts Of At Risk And Risk Of Young People 's Lives... Introduction The concepts of 'at–risk' and 'risk' are prominent in much of the literature on the sociology of youth. The objective of this essay is to explore the positive and negative sides of focusing on risk in young people's lives, and contend that although the concepts may help us to understand youth behaviours, there is a need to be cautious in its implementation, as they carry a number of implicit assumptions. Firstly, the approaches of 'at–risk' and 'risk taking' are defined; in order to understand the different ways the concepts are related to young people. These positive aspects include of the identification of 'at–risk' youth for prevention measures and Stephen Lyng's edgework notion to comprehend individuals' voluntary 'risk taking'. Secondly, discussions the usefulness of the concepts in promoting our comprehension of young individuals' behaviours are provided. Lastly, limitations of the approaches are discussed to highlight the precautions needed when applying the concepts, as it may lead to placing the blame on 'at–risk' youth, higher degree of scrutiny for young women than their men and the normalised assumption on behalf of the 'risk taking' notion. The concepts of 'at–risk' and 'risk taking' There are two main concepts in the literatures of the sociology of youth, which linked risk and young people together. According to McEwin and Willis, in clinical practice, those phenomenon that are frequently seen aid advanced practice nurses in developing interventions and clinical protocols because they are said to be stable and reliable components of the practical nursing experience (McEwin & Willis, 2011, p. 47). There are numerous approaches of creating meaning for concepts based on literature review, academic critique, and providing precise operational definition of said concepts (McEwin & Willis, 2011). Walker and Avant developed the concept analysis approach selected in this article in 1983, which is a concept analysis method based upon Wilson's method from the 1960's (McEwin & Willis, 2011). Walker and Avant's method "provides a systematic approach to analyze relatively new concepts" (Bruggemann et al., 2012, p. 124), and is comprised of three different processes: concept analysis, concept synthesis, and concept derivation (McEwin & Willis, 2011, p. 54). The concept analysis process is broken down into eight different steps that will allow defined terms to be presented in a common language (McEwin & Willis, 2011, pg. 54, para. 2). Additionally, the concept synthesis process is utilized when concepts need to be developed further and can be broken down into three subcategories: qualitative synthesis, quantitative synthesis, and literary synthesis (McEwin & Willis, 2011, pg. 54, para. 3). Furthermore, the concept derivation process is useful when generating innovative ways of thinking about an occurrence when few concepts are available and is comprised of a four–step design (McEwin & Willis, 2011, pg. 55, para. 1). As stated above, Walker and Avant's process of concept analysis is described as an eight part process that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The American Dream Is A Flawed Concept The American Dream is a flawed concept, a deceptive motivator, which promotes fantasy and unrealistic capitalist goals (ideals) of success, while disregarding the immense costs. The American Dream, conceptualized among early American frontiersmen deeply impacted societal thinking and motivation. America meant "more". More ideas, more possibilities, more space, more land, and finally, more success. This concept is timeless for Americans and aspiring American citizens. The American Dream can be broken down into two pieces, the illusion and reality of the dream. The white picket fence, a classic symbol which represents the American Dream of owning private (protected) property and raising a family, was an expensive decoration during the colonial era, which many Americans desired. This symbol was maintained through early cinema and advertisements and is well known internationally as a symbol for new opportunity in America. This is the illusion of the American Dream. The financial success required to purchase this dream home is far more expensive than it looks. The Average price of a home in the United States was $361,600 in July 2015 (U.S. Census), while the average household income of 2013 was only $52,250. Some may think highly of this number, however, it is far from being close enough to afford an average home. This is the painful reality of the American Dream. For most people, in order to obtain this dream, one has to enter the workforce and dream of promotion, getting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Application Of Concept Of The Current Job Essay 4.0 APPLICATION OF CONCEPT OF THE CURRENT JOB 4.1 Research Problem In the current job, research problem development is mandatory; no way can a nurse render quality services without doing research in his or her area of work, One may not need a very big project to his area of concern, but once I see any ambiguous issue within the ward, to client and client's family under my care I have to investigate it before trying to tackle it this makes research problem be applicable in current job of mine and other nurses. 4.2 Research Hypothesis No researcher does the research on clean plate, each topic has causal and one makes assumption on it to some extent, the researcher will use hypothesis only to generate new ideas about the study under way. Hypothesis in other words is an assumption for the research, the researchers organizes his or her ideas and critically thinks what could be the reasons for the stated research questions; thinking of the reasons or possible causal is referred to as hypothesis. Generally hypothesis give cruel before the study starts and the results of the study will be directed to confirm or reject the stated hypothesis. 4.3 Literature review: Literature review is digging deeper to follow the roots of study topic which will show what is already known about the topic. The literature tells story about the topic, informs any trouble or barriers encountered during investigation and suggests steps to be followed in a new search. With the reasons above literature ... • 31. The Concept Of Education In 'Mona Lisa Smile' There are two ways in which one leads a classroom of young entrepreneurs of learning. These forms of education are concreted in either a banking concept or problem posing approach. Paulo Freire, the creator of such ideas, is a man who believes in the distinct difference that either reaps learning or destroys it. Banking concept education, according to Freire, is an education that "becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor" (Freire 244). In simpler terms, banking concept is the lack of true understanding by students. Learning is not a responsibility, instead it is an act to passively check off the list. In contrast, Freire speaks of problem posing as "liberating education [that] consists in acts of cognition, not transferrals of information" (Freire 249). To expand, Freire is bringing to light that this type of education is the development of genuine, active understanding between teachers and students. Freire believes in critical, investigative work between teachers and students. He believes that the banking concept restricts growth and keeps students and teachers from a true critical understanding of the world. Both banking concept education and problem posing education are evident in the film Mona Lisa Smile. Mona Lisa Smile, a film set in 1953, is a vivid look into Freire's understanding of education. Starting with categorization when comparing the target object with a prototype, it fits the conceptual category if there is enough overlap in terms of features. Another problem is compositionality. • 39. Self Theory And Self Concept Self–Concept From the moment of birth, the need to communicate is evident. When babies come out of the womb they non–verbally communicate by crying, and the crying communicates that they are afraid and need comforting. Infants communicate in many non–verbal ways, such as pointing at something that the infant wants or by smiling because the infant got something he or she likes. From infancy to adulthood, communication develops into a mix of verbal and non–verbal forms. Communication is so important that employers consistently rank it as one of the top skills they are looking for in new hires. According to a study done by Millennial Branding, 98% of employers considered communication to be a necessity of the job (Schawbel). One of the main, if not the most important, influence on how society communicates is through an individual's self–concept. Self– concept is an individual's interpretation of who they are and is developed by what they know about themselves, and through feedback from others (DeVito 54). Self–concept affects our ability to communicate through social comparisons, cultural teachings, others' image, and self–evaluations. Social Comparisons According to DeVito, social comparisons are a way in which an individual determines their value, and that value is determined through self–evaluations, where an individual ranks themselves to fellow acquaintances (55). In fact, some organizations consider the idea of empowerment as the optimum strategy in order to have the competitive benefits in the world of professional business practices (Ghosh, 2013). My first opinion is that EV is an important concept on measuring the progress of the project, but not well explored as a significant tool and in such context, I think that by knowing why the EVM is not used properly can lead toward how to use it. There are cases that PMs know the concept but it is unusable for different reasons as well as there are many cases in which the concept is not known. So leaving apart the second case, in which the concept is not known because for my opinion this is the simple case, in my mere opinion, the reasons why the EVM is not used correctly or it can not be used can be grouped by: –The project does not have requirements at all. –The requirements change frequently which make absolutely difficult to define correctly the budget and the schedule. –There are wrong estimations of working packages. –The process of change management doesn 't work or is ineffective. –The process of calculation Actual Cost is insufficient (reminding here cost collection). –The incorrect progress of the project. Have you ever wondered, how a person knew what to do, seemingly without ever thinking about it? Barbara Carper, was able to answer this question in detail with her "Ways of Knowing Concepts", which she developed particularly for the nursing profession (Zander, 2011). A few of her concepts will be compared to a clinical situation, personal to this author. The above question will be explained in multiple ways so the reader will better understand Carper's concepts and how they may apply to their own situation. This will be accomplished by: describing the clinical situation, observing applicable concepts and then relating them to the situation, visiting how an understanding of her concepts explains interventions and critical thinking, and how evidence affects critical thinking and knowing. The author's experience started by caring for assigned patients in the emergency department (ED), one who was in serious condition and needed to be monitored very closely. Another part of that night's assignment was to participate as the code team nurse; which responds to emergencies on all floors of the hospital. During the care of the serious patient, Code Blue was announced over the intercom. The Concept of Intelligence Essay The Concept of Intelligence ABSTRACT: Gilbert Ryle's dispositional analysis of the concept of intelligence makes the error of assimilating intelligence to the category of dispositional or semi–dispositional concepts. Far from being a dispositional concept, intelligence is an episodic concept that refers neither to dispositions nor to 'knowing how,' but to a fashion or style of proceeding whose significance is adverbial. Being derivative from the function of the adverb 'intelligently,' the concept of intelligence does not have essential reference to specific verbs but rather to the manner or style of proceeding of nearly any verb that is descriptive of the proceedings of an agent. Intelligence– words are expressive of a manner of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dualist's reaction was to withdraw from the dispositional analysis and to claim that " intelligence " can only make sense when it is ultimately linked to an alternative concept which presumably has reference to a "process" (the existence of which may be ascertained by a subjective avowal: intent, deliberation, reflective choice, etc.). Whether this maneuver avoids the Rylean critique is subject to serious doubt. Each new term may itself have a problem concerning the "metaphysical" status of its referent: whether it is a physical or a "spiritual" process. Another problem with this approach is that it often makes the concept of intelligence dependent on factors that may have no more than a casual relation to its meaning: a contextual connection, for example. While a dispositional analysis of intelligence would effectively rescue it from entrapment inside "the ghost in the machine" it would fail to do the concept the justice that the dualist seeks for it, and that is to make the observation that it appears to be more an episodic than a dispositional concept. It is in this connection that some philosophers take a critical view of Ryle's analysis. Peter Thomas Geach, for instance, claims that reports of mental acts are categorical and are not hypothetical or semi–hypothetical statements about overt behavior. He believes the dispositional account of psychological concepts to be on a level with the statement that opium puts people to sleep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. The Concept Of Fashion And Fashion The concept of style, pertaining to clothes and fashion is something embedded into our everyday lives. While many pay no attention to it, and others simply fall into the category of those who not aware of the importance it has in our everyday lives, this does not take away from its underlying and quiet niche in our society. The way you chose to dress and the way you do this largely depends on your own life. For example, an older, retired gentleman will have a different style and taste than a younger teenager. Essentially, the concept of style comes down to three key components: the ability to practice self–expression, increasing self–esteem, and dressing for success. Before we can understand the concept that is style, it is important to understand another concept intertwined with style. This concept is best expressed by the president of Well Said, Inc., Darlene Price, who says, ""Let's be clear: In the big picture of ultimate reality, what you wear neither defines who you are as a person nor determines your value as a human being." Essentially, the clothes and what a user chooses to wear is not what will define them, but it is rather the user who defines what they are wearing, as the person makes the clothes, and not vice versa. The reason behind this is many seem to forget that the user of the clothes must ultimately dress for themselves and do however they please with their style, and not attempt to conform to societal norms or to anyone that is attempting to pressure ... It can be theoretical or non theoretical like hope, love and desire or body temperature, pain (McEwen& Willis, 2011) the words like grief, empathy, power, job satisfaction or a phrase like health promoting behaviors or maternal attachment. Concept analysis mentions to the laborious process of bringing clarity to the definition of the concept used in science (McEwen & Willis, p, 51). According to McEwen (2011), the purpose of the concept analysis is to clarify, recognize, and define concepts that describe phenomena. Method of analysis There are several methods of analyzing the concepts. The purpose of concept analysis is to help the nurses to identify the trends and development in patient care. Māori are the indigenous people of New Zealand. Māori Culture is collectively the beliefs and ideals followed by the Māori people mainly through tradition and legend. The culture dates back to 1250–1300 Common Era (CE) when Polynesians migrated to the 'long white cloud' and it has remained prominent to this day due to the practice of Māori cultural concepts. A cultural concept is a 'non tangible ideal that governs a society and cannot be physically touched'. There are numerous Māori cultural concepts however I am focusing on the three I believe are most important: Mana, Tapu and Utu. I will elaborate on how these cultural concepts are important in understanding Māori culture and society. Firstly, I will begin with how mana is important in Māori society. Mana in its simplest form is authority and power. The sources of mana include: mana tupuna, mana whenua, mana tangata and mana atua. Mana tupuna is power that has been attained through descent. It ties the Māori people to their ancestors. Mana also denotes the heritage, the myths and the legends, which define their place in the world. Mana tupuna is power through descent. • 63. Concept Analysis Of Effectiveness In Nursing Concept Analysis of Effectiveness Effectiveness, as a concept, is important to nursing. What actions nurses take and do can make a difference in care and determine whether or not care or treatment is effective. According to Rodgers (2015) concepts are important in portraying the character and scope of a discipline (Butts & Rich, 2015). However, defining what effectiveness as a concept is, is not unique to nursing. • 65. Sociological Concepts Of Family, Gender, And Identity Essay This essay discusses the way in which I understand the sociological concepts of family, gender and race – nuclear family, doing gender, and identity, in particular. Arguably, these three concepts can relate to each individuals life, through different personal experiences. To demonstrate my argument, I highlight relevant situations in my own life that further explain my chosen sociological concepts. The first concept I chose to focus on is family. In particular, the idea of the 'nuclear family'. A nuclear family is defined as: 'A couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit.' My research of this concept will focus on the theories of two sociologists – George Peter Murdock, and Talcott Parsons. George Murdock's theory suggests that there are four essential functions of an ideal family. 1. Stable satisfaction of the sex drive, 2. The biological reproduction of the next generation, 3. Socialisation of the young, 4. Meeting its members economic needs (Thompson, 2014). According to Murdock, these four components are what keep the structure of the basic family unit intact, and by achieving these four functions create an ideal family model. An opposing theory is Talcott Parson's functional fit theory. Parson suggests that as society evolves, alternative forms of family life become more accepted. Society has progressed so much that single parents providing for their children is as normal as a nuclear family, and there tends to be less need for extended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. The Concept of Personal Identity Personal Identity in philosophy refers to a person's self–perception, ones belief about who they are and how they differ form others. Locke and Hume both share their ideas about Personal identity and although they might both drastically differ they are still both puzzling. Locke's theory on personal identity has to do with what make a person the same person over time, and to Locke remaining the same person doesn't necessarily mean remaining the same physically. "For, since consciousness always accompanies thinking, and it is that which makes every one to be what he calls self, and thereby distinguishes himself from all other thinking things, in this alone consists personal identity" (53). He believes that personal identity and consciousness go hand in hand, he thinks personal identity is conceived through ones awareness of current thoughts and actions. You are who you are because of your thoughts and memories. Locke believes that the only accommodation that should be encountered in order for a person to still have their identity is the awareness of past experiences. They must be able to remember there past experiences in order for them to preserve their identity. Locke discusses the possibility of two forms having the same consciousness. He claims that these two forms, because they have the same memories, experiences, and consciousness must be the same person. Locke's is trying to tell us that a person can indeed inhabit two different men. An objection to Locke's view ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
