5. How do they differ?
• The sports magazine is more of a brighter colour then the other one,
the other one has a dark background which makes it look more
educational.
• They both have a main picture which tells you what the magazine is
about, the sports one has a man playing rugby and the other one is a
man with books which shows its more about education.
• The education one has three colours which aren’t really bright were as
the sports one has bright colours like a blue background and bright
yellow mast head it also has abit of orange which goes with the
number on the guys rugby top.
• Both of the magazines have a barcode on them instead of a price.
• Layout- what makes it interesting?
• People are more likely to pick up the sports magazine because its
brighter and more eye catching although if people want a educational
magazine they would pick up the College lifestyle because of the
intellectual look on the front of the magazine.
• The college magazine heading is bright green and so are the
subheadings. The main image is of a man in a black jacket which
blends in with the background and a white top which goes with the
white subheading as well. Were as on the sports one they have
different bright colours. The blue could mean the sky and the yellow
heading could mean the sun. they rugby player is wearing a white shirt
with a orange 16 on which goes with some of the boarders and his
white helmet could mean the clouds.

6. Mise – en -scene
Lighting - In the college lifestyle magazine you can see the
man has a bit of light shining in his face, whereas the college
sports magazine the picture might have been taken outside
while he was playing rugby so the whole image is bright.
Hair & Makeup – In the college lifestyle magazine the man
has a fresh trim which shows that he’s prepared and
organized and ready to learn because he’s holding books in
his hand. In the sports magazine the mans wearing a helmet
and his uniform so it relates to what the magazine is about.
Setting- Both magazines have solid colours which makes the
colour of the heading stand out as well as the image.
What makes a good school/college magazine?
A good school/college magazine should have a main image
that relates to the theme of it. It should also have the school/
college logo on it and the price, it should have secondary
headlines.
