NRB MAINFRAME DAY 06 - Linda De Bruyn - A realistic and pragmatic approach to...NRB
You want to bring your mainframe applications to the next level; make them agile, easier to maintain ; integrate them with web / mobile applications or software packages. But you don’t know how to do it.
Allow us to present a pragmatic approach for diving into mainframe modernisation.
NRB MAINFRAME DAY 04 - Yann Kindelberger - New generation of application arch...NRB
One of the top IT project priorities of organisations is the application modernisation of their core legacy applications. During this session Mr. Kindelberger will introduce the main paint points of monolithic legacy applications and the key drivers that motivate the customers to modernise. Moreover, he will present how the new generation of application architecture with a modernised mainframe will look like. He will then introduce different approaches such as APIs enablement, business rules externalization or Java re-engineering to modernize the core COBOL or PL/I applications. Lastly, he will make a specific focus on the IBM solution called Operational Decision Manager (ODM) to externalise business rules embedded in the legacy code.

He will present a number of NRB’s customer cases and provide insights about the NRB Mainframe roadmap. He will then introduce the key points that will be further developed by the other speakers.
NRB MAINFRAME DAY 03 - Toine Straathof - Legacy compute: modernisation is not...NRB
In this presentation you will learn about one of the hardest parts of IT transformations: a successful application modernisation approach. After only 50 years of IT experience we are in the rather slow learning curve of how to modernise our IT. The "just start over" approach has proven to be a nightmare in many cases. We arrived in an ongoing struggle between modernisation and legacy, mainframe versus cloud, stability versus agility. Learn where to start and how to create a step-by-step approach towards successful application modernisation. Spoiler alert: do not write off your legacy applications too soon...

Application Harmonisation using Design Principles in LeanIXLeanIX GmbH
Rainer Bartsch, Senior Enterprise Architect at RWE/Innogy give insights into Application Harmonization at EA Connect Days 2018 in Bonn: The Energy Trading business has been changing from high to low margins, from long running contracts to highly volatile (intraday) markets, from a few big players to many smaller market participants and to a business model that requires us to approach new markets and opportunities around the globe.
Such constant business change, over time, results in a quite diverse IT landscape using all kinds of technologies and a hell of a lot of people to keep it running. This obviously is adverse business change but what can I do to harmonise my IT environment or prevent to get into such a situation? For sure, it doesn’t happen by accident or just by having a bunch of good developers, a set of architecture guidelines and tools!
Bartsch demonstrated RWE's approach to application harmonisation based on a business & IT commitment to deliver IT solutions against a set of 10 Design Principles. This includes LeanIX as our application inventory and two different examples on how to cover Design Principles, first as Custom Tags and second as Custom Fact Sheets.

I4MS phase two will take this success further through additional projects supported by a budget of approximately EUR 35 Mn.
At I4MS 2015 participating SMEs will present their experiences, results achieved and impact made. They will explain how they have benefited and what the adaption of innovative ICT has meant for their business. European support does not just exist at EU level.
Action at regional level supported through programmes such as Smart Specialisation present the good opportunity to reach out to and involve the diverse landscape of European SMEs. At I4MS 2015 participants will be introduced to a new activity designed for such outreach – digital innovation competence centres – and an outlook towards the next stage of I4MS.
I4MS is a EUR 77 Mn initiative of the 'Factories of the Future' partnership designed to support the adaption of innovative ICT by SMEs. Through seven integrated projects in four key areas, I4MS brings manufacturing SMEs directly into research and innovation projects, introducing them to innovative technologies and supporting the adoption of such technologies.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
